St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding – Sash & Dan

    St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding

    Flying veil on rustic street

Sash and Dan’s St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding was the last wedding of 2022 for me, and what a wedding it was too! taking place in one of the more beautiful Cathedrals the city of churches has to offer the weatehr was wonderful and the people involved even more so!

Preparation

Sash and Dan had organised their wedding very well, choosing accomodation nearby their reception venue of Ayers House so that they have a short walk back to their hotel after their big day – it also meant that we were able to set up their photobooth before heading for their preparation photos quite easily! It was also good as we had quite a bit of video gear to cart around too, and being in the city it can be tricky – but not at Sash and Dan’s wedding!

The rooms in the Crown Plaza are lined by beautiful floor to ceiling windows lined with white skim curtains which makes for a nice backdrop to preparation wedding photos, along with letting in plenty of natural light.

We started by heading up to Dan’s room, only to find that his groomsmen werent coming until a bit later, so we head over to Sash’s room where she was finishing up her makeup.

The whole morning was laid back and fun to be a part of!

St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding Ceremony

The St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, just off of Victoria square is a very impressive building both inside and out with a beautifully gothic aesthetic which sets for an impressive backdrop for a wedding.

One thing that really ‘wowed’ me was the entrance of Sash in the huge double doors at the head of the Cathedral following the procession of her bridal aprty and family members. The doors flew open to reveal her stunning visage which was certainly enough to make Dan shed a tear or two!

Sash and Dan’s St Francis Xaviers Cathedral wedding was a traditional catholic affair with heartfelt vows and family members joining in as sponsors throughout for various reasons such as the laying of a veil over their heads and a wedding lasso rosary.

Something a bit different at Sash and Dan’s wedding was that during the ceremony we had group photos at the altar of the Cathedral, which allowed me to do some fun stuff with a very long pole acting like a drone throughout the Cathedral – its a rather rare thing to be able to do!

Glamour Photos

The original plan was to take some glamour photos around Victoria Square so we could have the Cathedral in the backdrop of the photos – however their ceremony took a little longer than expected, and we spent a bit of time having a group photo in front of the Cathedral.

We spent a little time inside the Cathedral itself using the wonderful architecture, and also recreating their first kiss as their original kiss was unfortunately behind their two chairs they sat in during their ceremony.

Sash then retired to her room at their hotel, but not before shooting a bit in front of some rustic walls in a nearby allyway. This allowed me to get a start on their same day edit video, which they specially requested to be played during their reception. Putting these together can be a bit stressful, but are always very rewarding considering the glowing feedback you get from guests throughout the night!

Once Sasha and Dan made it to Ayer’s House we used the gardens and historic scenes around the manor for a few shots before entering their reception.

Chateau Tanunda Wedding – Libby & Simon

    Chateau Tanunda Wedding

    Kiss in the vines

Libby and Simon returned form their home in Texas, USA to celebrate their wedding day at the Chateau Tanunda with friends and family living in South Australia. Both their families were spread out around the globe, so it was wonderful to witness the coming together of these two lovely families 🙂 I was asked to be their wedding photographer for the majority of their day, seeing me at Libby’s place of preparation, through to the first dance at their reception.

Preparation

I was asked to start the day with Libby and her bridal party preparation at a nearby bed and breakfast in Tanunda. All morning there was the bustle of activity as each bridesmaid, flower girl and a few other family members all used the large, old cottage as a base of operations 🙂 The house featured a large, open lounge room, complete with a wonderful bay window, perfect for bridal preparation photos.

An interesting side not for the day was that I was contacted by Raw Cotton Collection, a clutch bag manufacturer based in Perth, through Instagram to give Libby and her flowergirls a free clutch and bags in exchange for some photos with the girls, was a fun little side note 🙂

Chateau Tanunda Wedding Ceremony

The Chateau Tanunda has been a feature of the Barossa Valley since the 1880s, being built near vineyards that were planted in 1840s, it’s a historic place that makes for a wonderful backdrop for a wedding! Libby and Simon’s wedding ceremony took place in a long, thin function hall/chapel on the far left of the Chateau which featured some wonderful wooden slat ceilings and large windows overlooking a grassy croquet field.

Directly after the ceremony, Libby, Simon and I escaped in their MG getaway car and used the surrounding beauty that is the Chateau Tanunda grounds. First making use of the picturesque driveway through the vineyards towards the Chateau, then behind the building in a small park situated beyond a disused train line. The sun was setting beautifully for some nice sun flare coming through the trees. We were also lucky enough to utilise the wine barrels in the large tasting room for the winery.

Chateau Tanunda Wedding Reception

The venue boasts a huge reception hall, big enough for Libby and Simon’s wedding reception guests twice over, which made the dance floor quite large! As it was a chilly night, being the beginning of May, their were plenty of gas-fired heaters throughout the room to keep guests warm.

Ekhidna Wines Wedding – Sarah & Ricardo

    Ekhidna Wines Wedding

    Ekhidna wines wedding

Ekhidna Wines, or Ekhidna Winery in Mclaren Vale was the stunning backdrop to Sarah and Ricardo’s wedding amongst a wonderful bunch of people who had travelled from far and wide to attend their big day. A big difference between their wedding and many others however was the fact that they opted to do their glamour shoot a few days prior to their wedding day. They instead got dressed up 2 days before their wedding day in mid Januray and had a bit of a ‘first look’ and glamour shoot using optimal light later in the day.

Pre Wedding Shoot

The great thing about what Sarah and Ricardo decided to do was that they were able to dedicate their whole wedding day soley to their friends and family, without leaving everyone at their Ekhidna wines reception while they went off to have their glamour photos taken. As their glamour photos had already been done a few day prior they were able to just party all day! It was also great to me as we were able to make use of the best light during the day, without worrying about getting back inside for speeches or cake cutting. It was a wonderful idea and I can’t believe more pople don’t opt to do this!

Our glamour shoot began as a simple little ‘first look’ between Sarah adn Ricardo in the garden of the bed and breakfast they were staying at that night. It was a very small little garden, but it worked out beautifully as the sun was in a great spot for it to shine in through the leaves of the trees lining the road. Then we head out to the main street of Mclaren Vale where there is a stunning little grove of Olive Trees that are free to walk through as a tribute to the regions large Olive business.

I like using this spot later in the day as the sun shines through the canopy of this little grove quite nicely. The next spot we head to was the ‘story bench’ in Willunga which I learnt about back when I was a teacher at the nearby Willunga Primary School. Its a simple little park with large gum trees, a big open grassy area and some nifty, whispy trees I’m not sure what their names are. 😀 We then finished the day back at Ekhidna Wines where Saraha and Ricardo’s dog came to visit for a bit of a shoot throughout the vineyards.

Preparation

On the actual day of the wedding, Sarah and her bridal aprty were being prepared at the Ekhidna Wines on-site bed and breakfast which is always convenient as it’s right next door to the wedding venue. I had a little bit of time with Sarah and everyone there and grab a few shots of them all getting ready!

Ekhidna Wines Wedding Ceremony

Sarah and Ricardo’s wedding ceremoyn was full of meaningful readings and heartfelt cameos by friends and family throughout, and was of course backdropped to what I feel to be one of the best backdrops to any wedding venue in Mclaren Vale – that of the Hills behind Ekhidna WInes. When there is a little cloud in the sky, it just makes for a stunning backdrop!

Ekhidna Wines Wedding Reception

To finish up I was at Sarah and Ricardo’s wedding reception on site at Ekhidna wines for a few hours before my wedding photography coverage was at an end. Can you believe I maaged to grab all these shotswithin 6 hours?! 2 hours on their glamour shoot day, and 4 on their actual wedding day and I managed to pretty much cover it all! It was obvious to me that many of those who made speeches throughout the evening were used to public speaking as the quality of all the speeches were fantastic, and tall the guests got right into each one, making the whole experience that much more intimate and special.

Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding Photos

March 15, 2015/in Wedding

After Bronwyn & Robert’s wedding ceremony at the Gawler Uniting Church we head off to take some glamour photographs in a variety of locations, including the Gawler gardens around the church, and Seppeltsfield Winery up in Seppeltsfield. We also stopped off in various locations around Seppeltsfield as it’s set in such a beautiful location, surrounded by the Barossa Valley with fantastic palm trees and vineyards.

Gawler Parklands wedding photos

The Gawler parklands within the town of Gawler, north of Adelaide are sprawling and diverse in nature. Gawler was the first country town settled in the state,, and is named after the second Governor of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. Gawler is about 44km north of Adelaide.

Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding Photos

Seppeltsfield winery boasts a beautifully manicured central garden surrounded by old rustic buildings with wild, luck green forestry nearby and of course the Seppeltsfield winery vineyards. It;s pretty much the perfect location of a wedding photographer such as myself. The Seppeltsfield winery was originally build in 1888 as a Gravity Flow Winery. Established in 1888, the historic building was designed and constructed by Oscar Benno Seppelt, son of Seppeltsfield founders Joseph & Johanna. Built into the hillside on a series of terraces, the visionary winery was the largest and most modern of its type in the world during the late 19th century.

For almost 100 years, the 1888 Gravity Flow cellar served as Seppeltsfield’s chief winemaking facility. Having played an important role in shaping the foundation of Australia’s wine landscape, it was eventually decommissioned in the 1980’s due to the need for significant restoration. The cellar lay dormant for nearly 30 years until it was revived under Warren Randall with the change of Seppeltsfield’s ownership in 2007. A million-dollar investment restored the seppeltsfield winery to a world-class facility for vintage 2010.

Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding – Tahlia & Alex

    Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding

Tahlia and Alex’s Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding was an absolute blast to be a part of! Beautiful people, amazing venue and the weather was just sublime to take wedding photos!

Even though Tahlia and Alex has originally planned on holding their wedding in Fiji but due to COVID could not – which I was very much looking forward to as a destination wedding photographer – Their Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding turned out to be absolutely brilliant and I’m so pleased for this couple to have had such a fun filled day in the Barossa Valley!

Preparation

The day started out by me heading to Alex’s place of preparation at a bed and breakfast in Tanunda. The mood was jovial, with the boys all having a little bit of fun at Alex’s expense, followed up by a delightful drop of liquid courage which they all shared before heading out to meet Tahlia for their first look.

Tahlia and her bridal party were also having a bit of fun with laughter and smiles all over the place. The bed and breakfast that tahlia had chosen for her preparation venue looked to be purpose built for having bridal party photos done, being decorated with rustic affects and painted white throughout, it was a delightful spot to get ready in!

Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding First Look

Tahlia and Alex opted to have what’s known as a ‘first look’ where they actually get together before their wedding ceremony in order to see each other outside the prying eyes of friends and family at their ceremony.

This allows for any nerves that Tahlia and Alex may have been feeling to be dispelled defore their ceremony and can produce some lovely intimate moments that otherwise would not have happened if they were to do the traditional ‘first look’ as Tahlia walks down the aisle.

We also made use of the time just after the first look to have bridal party photos done with the bridal cars around the Seppeltsfield Winery grounds using the delightful trees they have hiding at the back of the grounds.

Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding Ceremony

Tahlia and Alex’s Seppeltsfield Winery Wedding ceremony took place on what’s known as the ‘winemaker’s lawn’ which is an open grassy area surrounded by delightful old buildings with a backdrop of amazing glory vine that covers the majority of the wall behind the bridal party. During the Summer this wall is a vivid bottle green which makes for an amazing backdrop for a wedding ceremony.

What would have to be the star of the show during Tahlia and Alex’s ceremony was their little page boy who would be as cute as a button beaming at everyone as he approached the ceremony holding the wedding bands for Alex!
