St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding – Sash & Dan

    St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding

Sash and Dan’s St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding was the last wedding of 2022 for me, and what a wedding it was too! taking place in one of the more beautiful Cathedrals the city of churches has to offer the weatehr was wonderful and the people involved even more so!

Preparation

Sash and Dan had organised their wedding very well, choosing accomodation nearby their reception venue of Ayers House so that they have a short walk back to their hotel after their big day – it also meant that we were able to set up their photobooth before heading for their preparation photos quite easily! It was also good as we had quite a bit of video gear to cart around too, and being in the city it can be tricky – but not at Sash and Dan’s wedding!

The rooms in the Crown Plaza are lined by beautiful floor to ceiling windows lined with white skim curtains which makes for a nice backdrop to preparation wedding photos, along with letting in plenty of natural light.

We started by heading up to Dan’s room, only to find that his groomsmen werent coming until a bit later, so we head over to Sash’s room where she was finishing up her makeup.

The whole morning was laid back and fun to be a part of!

St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding Ceremony

The St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, just off of Victoria square is a very impressive building both inside and out with a beautifully gothic aesthetic which sets for an impressive backdrop for a wedding.

One thing that really ‘wowed’ me was the entrance of Sash in the huge double doors at the head of the Cathedral following the procession of her bridal aprty and family members. The doors flew open to reveal her stunning visage which was certainly enough to make Dan shed a tear or two!

Sash and Dan’s St Francis Xaviers Cathedral wedding was a traditional catholic affair with heartfelt vows and family members joining in as sponsors throughout for various reasons such as the laying of a veil over their heads and a wedding lasso rosary.

Something a bit different at Sash and Dan’s wedding was that during the ceremony we had group photos at the altar of the Cathedral, which allowed me to do some fun stuff with a very long pole acting like a drone throughout the Cathedral – its a rather rare thing to be able to do!

Glamour Photos

The original plan was to take some glamour photos around Victoria Square so we could have the Cathedral in the backdrop of the photos – however their ceremony took a little longer than expected, and we spent a bit of time having a group photo in front of the Cathedral.

We spent a little time inside the Cathedral itself using the wonderful architecture, and also recreating their first kiss as their original kiss was unfortunately behind their two chairs they sat in during their ceremony.

Sash then retired to her room at their hotel, but not before shooting a bit in front of some rustic walls in a nearby allyway. This allowed me to get a start on their same day edit video, which they specially requested to be played during their reception. Putting these together can be a bit stressful, but are always very rewarding considering the glowing feedback you get from guests throughout the night!

Once Sasha and Dan made it to Ayer’s House we used the gardens and historic scenes around the manor for a few shots before entering their reception.

Ayers House Wedding – Mona & Lester

Mona and Lester held their Ayers House wedding mid-week which meant that we had the run of their entire estate for their wedding photos!

Their Ayers House wedding ceremony and reception took place in the main grand ballroom, flanked by large TVs on which relatives who could not attend watched on via live stream – which Lester seemed to have a lot of fun setting up before the ceremony began!.

Ayers House Wedding Ceremony

Prior to their Ayers House wedding ceremony, amongst the running about that Lester was doing trying to get the live stream to work correctly, Mona was waiting in a small room down the hall, as their guests milled about thir wedding sign – so we took a few group shots while we were waiting.

Mona and Lester’s ceremony began with a precession of almost all of their guests who took their places at the front of their chairs in order to watch the ceremony.

The Ballroom is a grand old space to hold a wedding ceremony with a huge arched window space at the head of the room where Mona and Lester had an arbour set up to frame the head of the ceremony. To the right of their set up were some custom candles with their names which symbolised the coming together of the families.

The only unfortunate thing about holding an Ayres Hourse Wedding ceremony in this space is the bright sun shinging through one of the windows – in this case the left – just behind where Mona was standing. This caused her white dress to become quite bright int he dark room, but she certainly stood out!

After the ceremony had ended we had all their guests congregate on the lawns out the front of the house in order to get some shots of them walking under thrown flower petals!

Ayers House is one of those Adelaide wedding venues which have been around forever and have become quite an institution within the city. The manor was built all the way back in 1871 after the land having changed hands a few times right after South Australia was founded!

As Mona and Lester’s wedding took palce on a Wednesday – there were no other functions occuring at the venue, so we had the run of the grounds for glamour photos – which we took advantage of so that we diddn’t spend too long away from family and friends.

Ayers House Wedding Reception

Mona and Lester’s wedding reception took place in the same room their ceremony had been held, after being cleared of their seating and tables set up for their sit-down reception dinner.

During the evening many speeches were held by family, friends and well wishes – even from guests overseas both pre-recorded and live, which again were played on the large TVs placed at the front of the ballroom. The whole night was a lovely, simple affair and lovely to be a part of!
