Top 3 things most grooms have trouble with
As an experienced wedding photographer in Adelaide, I’ve had the unique opportunity to observe some fascinating aspects of weddings in this beautiful city. Adelaide, with its blend of urban charm and natural landscapes, offers a unique backdrop for weddings, and there are a few things about Adelaide weddings that both local and broader audiences might find interesting. Especially for you soon-to-be brides and grooms, here are some insights that might come in handy for your big day.
In my journey through numerous weddings, I’ve noticed that there are certain areas where grooms, in particular, seem to struggle. It’s not just a local phenomenon, but it seems particularly pertinent in the Adelaide wedding scene. Whether it’s the laid-back nature of our city or something else, these are things that not only the grooms but often their partners and families haven’t considered much either. So, here’s a shoutout to all the helpful mums and partners who step in during these moments!
Top 3 things grooms have trouble with
Here are the top three areas where Adelaide grooms, and indeed many grooms, often need a bit of extra help:
1. How to tie a necktie
It’s a common scene at Adelaide weddings – a group of groomsmen puzzling over a tie. Despite the bride’s instructions for a specific knot, like the popular double Windsor, the task often proves challenging. This skill is essential not just for the wedding day but as a life skill. Adelaide’s relaxed lifestyle doesn’t always call for formal attire, so this might be a new task for many.
2. How to use cufflinks
Cufflinks are a sophisticated touch to a groom’s attire, but they can be tricky. In the casual fashion landscape of Adelaide, cufflinks aren’t an everyday accessory, so it’s understandable why they can cause confusion. The key is to remember that cufflinks are not just fancy button replacements – they require a different approach to fastening.
See the difference? Grooms have trouble as the usually correct way to wear cufflinks goes against what they have been taught since they were little boys! the cufflinks are supposed to go through the top part of one side of the sleeve and emerge on top of the opposite of the sleeve, the opposite of what a button does. Simply speaking you should see the outside of the entire circumference of the sleeve, and none of the inside.
3. Boutonniere flowers (Groomsmen flowers)
The boutonniere, a staple in wedding attire, can be surprisingly tricky. In Adelaide’s warm climate, many grooms opt for lighter attire, which can be at odds with larger floral arrangements chosen for boutonnieres. There’s also the challenge of pinning them securely without injury. Traditionally worn on the left side, closest to the heart, the placement can sometimes vary.
And finally, which side to put it on? Generally the tradition in Australia dictates that the flower should be on the left side, the closest to the groom’s heart. However I have come across some traditions where that changes to the right or left depending on various circumstances.
These insights are not only relevant for Adelaide couples but can resonate with couples planning their wedding anywhere. It’s a gentle reminder that weddings, while joyful, come with their own set of challenges, and it’s okay to seek help or practice these skills in advance.
If you’ve noticed other things that grooms have trouble with, feel free to share your experiences. This list is by no means exhaustive, and there’s always something new to learn in the ever-evolving world of weddings.
