Planning a Perfect Wedding – What Your Photographer Needs to Know

A wedding is an important event in a couple’s life. It is a day where a couple publicly shares their vows and enters into the lifelong contract of marriage. Moreover, it is a day wherein they proclaim their never-ending love and appreciation for each other.

Since a wedding is one of the beautiful moments in a couple’s life, it must be cherished and documented properly. To make sure that you capture every important moment on your special day, talk to your photographer beforehand to set your big day up for success!

While it is best to let your photographer have artistic licence over what they are doing, as you chose them for a reason – it can’t hurt to communicate to them the images and setup you envisioned so that they will come in prepared to deliver you the best photos of one of the most important days of your life.

Your photographer may have other ideas to better capture the moment, so it’s best to set a meeting with them to iron out the details. In this way, there is a clear goal for both of you! Photographers hate it when they don’t meet the expectations of their clients, so it’s best to set all the goals before the day of the wedding and figure out what your photographer needs to know.

What Your Photographer Needs to Know

Since there are a lot of things to communicate to your wedding photographer, it can get a bit overwhelming; in fact, you may even miss out on some of the most crucial details! That’s why we created this list of a couple of important things you need to talk about to ensure the success of the shots.

  • Give them a list of names of family and friends

One of the parts during a wedding ceremony is when you need to take family photos. It can be difficult to manage, especially when there are a lot of people whom you don’t know just milling around aimlessly! Beyond that, a lot of guests often want to enjoy the cocktail hours, so you need to be as quick as possible to ensure that it goes according to plan.

Having a list will keep this part as smooth and efficient as possible. It will be easier on your part to just call the names instead of asking around who they are! To streamline this effort, help your photographer by writing it like this: bride’s parents with bride and groom, groom’s parents with bride and groom, etc. Don’t just list individual names.

Your photographer does not know who anyone in your group photos are, or how they relate to one another, it’s the one period of the day where they completely rely on your direction in order to produce what you expect, so I cannot understate the importance of this!

  • Give them a schedule of your wedding day

Having a copy of the timeline helps photographers keep track of the event as well. In this way, you both are on the same page on your wedding day and what your photographer needs to know! They will know what to expect and when to expect it—allowing them as much leeway to prepare for their shots as possible.

However, you both must understand that weddings don’t often go as planned! They usually run so late that some of the parts must be rushed. There are even times where 10 minutes were allotted to taking bridal photos; however, it ended up as 30 minutes because of all the retakes and requests! If you don’t give enough time or adjustment, you and your photographer may be stressed out due to the lack of time.

Best way to avoid this is talk to an experienced wedding photographer and glean some insight from their experience form the hundreds of weddings they had covered beforehand.

  • Give them a list of important shots you want

You can always give your photographers a list of important shots that you want them to take. May it be the first dance, the cake cutting, or family photo, these need to be addressed to ensure that you get them at the end of the day!

As I mentioned before, giving your photographer complete autonomy with their own artistic eye is the best way to let them create the best photographs for you – however photographers are not mind readers. if you have a certain set of shots you expect from your final set of images, make sure you communicate this with your photographer!

A professional wedding photographer can capture the beautiful and important moments in your wedding. But, to ensure that both of your goals are met, you need to communicate to them what you expect during the wedding! May the list above give you a basic understanding of what your photographer needs to know to help ease the process along.

3 Reasons Not to Make a Wedding Photographer Shot List

January 28, 2021/in Interesting, ideas, Wedding

Don’t Make a Wedding Photographer Shot List

During the wedding planning, many couples do not know how to deal with wedding photographers. Having a professional cameraman running about taking photos on the most nerve wrecking day of your life is not something people do very often! This leads to a lot of Google searching and perhaps even asking family and friends who may know what to do in this unusual situation. While that is all well and good, advice can be a little behind the times.

One tip that is usually found handy is to provide a shot list for the wedding photographer. A wedding photographer shot list is exactly what it sounds like—a definitive list of shots the photographer must take before, during and after the wedding. However, that could put a lot of unnecessary pressure on the photographer, and on you.

Wedding photography can vary on the day itself given a number of reasons, such as the high probability that you and your spouse will likely be pulled in multiple directions.

With that said, a wedding photographer shot list may not be a good idea. Here are three reasons not to give your wedding photographer a shot list:

3 Reasons Not to Make a Wedding Photographer Shot List

  • It implies a lack of trust

If you’ve already booked a photographer, then you’ve already shown you trust them. After all, you had to go through a rather tedious process of research to find a photographer you get along with and will take incredible photos. Given all of that, you should not have any need to give this professional any specific directions.

Embrace the idea that you may not get all the shots you want, but know that you will definitely get the shots you need. Discuss things thoroughly with your photographer and make sure that you both come to an agreement on how each other expects the day to run. Being a little picky on having a few ‘must have photos’ is fine, but micro-managing someone who knows what they are doing just puts a lot of stress on everybody.

  • Weddings vary

There are so many variables during the wedding day. The weather could change, there could be adjustments or changes at the venue, the lighting will shift and more. Even the hair and outfits of the couple can change, whether it’s a last-minute style change or something brought about by wind or the general rush of things. The nature of the COVID-19 Pandemic is an excellent example of how things can change quickly!

Even if you put together all the elements to shoot a copy of the ideal images you spotted on Pinterest, something will be different. If your photographer has a shot list, they may focus on getting the exact shots you’d like instead of managing to capture a lovely candid moment which they would know will work based on their own experience and ability with the camera.

  • Precious time gets wasted

More often than not, wedding photographer shot lists include photos that have to be staged. Considering how weddings can essentially move from beginning to end in the blink of an eye, that’s tricky. Even if it’s just a matter of standing a certain way at a certain spot, setting up the shot can take time. This takes away not just from your photographer’s capability to follow the day’s actions as they happen in a timely manner, but also your time within the day itself that could be better spent on other aspects.

While a wedding photgorapher shot list may seem like a good idea in theory, in the long run, it actually is not. Your photographer most certainly knows what they’re doing. More than anything, make sure to have a good sit-down talk with your photographer so things can go as smoothly as possible.

This isn’t to say that you should not make a list of certain photos you’d like taken – like for example a list of family photos. But try not to drown your photographer with photos you’ve seen elseware and say you want them done the same way – just with your faces in them. 🙂

Themes & Ideas to Help You Plan Your Dream Wedding

Plan Your Dream Wedding

When you close your eyes and imagine what your wedding day looks like, what do you see? What is the general ambience? Where are you? What time of the year is it? These are only a few of the things you should think about. The visuals, sights, feelings, and sounds all carry weight into the overall experience, so you should carefully think about it before starting to plan your dream wedding.

Your selected wedding theme is pretty much the starting point and core of the plan, so you have to be decisive about it. It will set the mood of your wedding and reflect you and your partner’s personality and relationship. There are so many themes to choose from, so it can take a little thinking before you dive in and make a choice.

Keep on reading to learn more about picking out the best theme for your special day.

Themes & Ideas to Help You Plan Your Dream Wedding

Three Considerations When Choosing Wedding Themes

  1. The Wedding Venue

If you happen to book a wedding venue before choosing a theme, you have to explore the venue first. Wedding locations and themes are not really one-size-fits-all, so it is better that you get a feel or idea of how the wedding hall or site will look like. You have to choose a theme that will look good inside the venue.

If you are fortunate enough to get a relatively roomy wedding venue, you can choose a luxury wedding theme with extravagant decorations. To start, explore Adelaide wedding venues and find the right-sized place for your theme.

It’s not at all unusual to have your wedding venue booked as a first when you plan your dream wedding – it’s the most important vendor you will enlist for your day, then comes your photographer.

  1. The Season

Every season has its distinct vibe and colour palette that you can use to your advantage for example, an outdoor wedding during the winter or rainy season can be a recipe for disaster. However can be cheaper and provide some unique opportunities for fun and/or photography!

Coordinate your surroundings for a more beautiful wedding. For instance, if you fancy an indoor white-themed wedding, you can do it in winter might be best. Should you want a bright outdoor wedding, do it in the Autumn or Spring.

  1. Your Budget

Cost really should be one of your most significant considerations when planning a wedding. You should not go way past your budget, or else you will be in debt right after your wedding. Stick to your budget and plan a wedding that fits your financial situation. As much as the ceremony and reception are valuable, you shouldn’t forget the life that you will be starting together.

Remember, this is about you and your partner’s union, not about the grandiosity of the event. If you are on a tight budget, you are free to choose a theme, but maybe lean towards DIY solutions. If you have all the money to spare, you can pretty much go for anything.

Keep in mind though – the old adage of ‘you get what you pay for‘ very much comes into effect with many vendors on your big day, so when you plan your dream wedding try not to cheap out on people that you know can have a wide spectrum of quality – like your wedding photographer.

8 Wedding Themes You Should Consider when you plan your dream wedding

We are here to help you decide the best wedding theme for you and your partner’s much-awaited event. Here is a list of some wedding themes that you might like.

  1. Classic

Traditional wedding themes have remained popular for decades, so if you and your partner are more conventional, when you plan your dream wedding – go for a classic theme and have a textbook wedding.

Use elegant stationery, a soft colour theme, and traditional garb for the bridal party. Think about timeless floral arrangements, silverware, accent chairs, rhinestones, and candles. Plus, get a cinematic wedding videographer for a more classic approach.

  1. Spring

Spring symbolises a new beginning—a perfect metaphor for weddings. You can decorate the venue with many flowers and use pastel colours for all of your decorations. Natural and floral accents are a good fit for this theme, and you can also use earthy colour palettes for the growth vibes given off by a Spring theme.

  1. Modern

A lot of people like a modern, simple look. May it be inside their homes or events, people prefer minimalist designs. If you pick this wedding theme, you can decorate with white or neutral colours to emphasise simplicity. The dress code for the bridal party and the guests may be minimalist, too.

You can opt for geometric props and metallic accents. You can experiment by pairing classic and modern furniture to make your venue look more creative. Usually, modern designs lean toward using mirrors, modern candelabras, contrasting designs, and unique linens.

  1. Beach

Beach themes have been one of the most prominent themes simply because they are fun and fresh. A view of the beach is excellent no matter what, especially when your wedding is scheduled at sunset. It is advisable to use blue or silver colours for the colour palette to fully embrace the sea, the sand, and the sky.

Also, you should use coastal ornaments to decorate the venue, such as tables and chairs. The food should also be seafood and crustacean dishes!

Just be aware that you are very much at the mercy of the weather at a beach wedding – so have a plan B ready!

  1. Rustic

This wedding theme evokes a relaxed, carefree vibe. Mostly held at gardens and farms, this theme looks pretty, calm, and serene. You really do not need many decorations because you can rely on the natural beauty of the surroundings. But to take it to the next level, you can add additional wooden decor, mason jars, natural textures, dried flowers, or burlap for a unified theme.

  1. Pink

If you want your wedding to look lovely and elegant, you can utilise the many different shades of pink during your wedding day. Blush pink is a favourite wedding colour that symbolises romance and elegance. Make sure to decorate the place with sophisticated details to make it even fancier.

Getting Camera Shy Husbands Comfortable for a Family PhotoShoot

Camera Shy Husbands

Every family needs a few good photos to display in their home. As simple as taking a photo might sound, there’s always that one family member that doesn’t like posing for them – and it’s quite often the husband!

As frustrating as that sounds, this is not entirely unusual. After all, not everybody is accustomed to smiling on cue! Many people have trouble expressing their emotions on command and don’t care for cheesy, choreographed poses for fear of looking awkward or forced.

If this describes your husband, then you’re in luck! We have prepared three ways that you can convince camera shy husbands to cooperate for your planned family shoot.

Getting Camera Shy Husbands Comfortable for a Family Photo Shoot

Speak from the heart

It’s no secret that a lot of husbands have trouble processing their emotions. Chalk it up to a hard upbringing or less than healthy media representations of men. Whatever the reason for it might be, it’s best to approach your partner with your honest intentions, letting them know of your desire to have a professional family photoshoot done.

It’s a good idea to remind him that your young and adorable kids won’t remain the way they are today for long! Time flies by very fast—and before you notice it, your kids could be moving for college in a different state, making their own way in the world!

You and your husband probably aren’t getting any younger too. Having a photo of you and your kids sooner than later will allow you to capture this specific moment in time, where your family is still growing and has a lot of good years ahead of you. This picture will be a good reminder of what life you’ve had, as you and your husband spend your time reminiscing about days past.

Get a skilled photographer

If your words don’t compel him, maybe a few sample works will! As much as they deny it, husbands are very emotional too. It may just be a matter of presenting the right material to trigger that soft side of theirs.

If you haven’t chosen a photographer yet, try to seek out a photographer that has a style of family portraits that most suits you, and try not to have the price be too much of a hang up. This is an investment in your memories so it’s not really something to cheap out on.

Have someone who can capture your kid’s anticipation while waiting for you to finish that Saturday’s breakfast pancakes. Get a family photographer who can encapsulate the warmth of having you and your kids share a laugh while watching your favourite cartoons. These are fleeting moments that matter the most but are the easiest to forget.

Once you find that photographer, have them send over a few of his best photographs, or look throguh their website. If the thought of experiencing these moments without having the means to experience them again doesn’t at least make your husband reconsider, then move on to the next tip!

Fussing family
Fussing family

Negotiate

Every man has a price. As this is camera shy husbands we are talking about, this is obviously something he might not like to do, perhaps sweeten the deal with something he likes? As a man myself I can confirm I am just a big kid at heart, so what works with a 10 year old would probably work here too.

Get creative about it too! Whether it’s allowing him a night off with his boys, giving him control of the television remote for a week, or buying him that shining set of golf clubs that he’s been talking about for months, he’s bound to give in at some point. Maybe something as simple as a chocolate bar? Little acts of affection can go a long way!

Whatever you do, just make sure that he understands that he needs to agree to the family photoshoot.

Cheese
Cheese

Photographs freeze certain moments in time, allowing us to go back at a later date and experience them again with a glance. Family members come and go: kids and grandkids grow up and move on—but photographs remain, and the memories they bring back are there for you to cherish forever.

Having a camera shy husband hampering your efforts in capturing this moment in your family’s life need not force you to abandon the idea, just work on the idea and I’m sure he’ll come around 🙂

7 Activities for the Night before Your Wedding

June 15, 2020/in Wedding, ideas

The Night before Your Wedding

The night before your wedding is one of the most nerve-wracking times on a wedding timeline – particularly for the bride. To make sure you are well-rested and glowing on your wedding photos, try to relax and ease your mind the night before. If you feel clueless about how to achieve this recommended ‘state of calm’ and need help finding things to do other than dream up all the horrible things that can possibly go wrong on your big day, here are our recommendations of seven things to do on the night before your wedding:

7 Activities for the Night before Your Wedding

  1. Remain hydrated

If you’re thinking of drinking your favourite glass of wine before your wedding, you might want to think again. Maybe drinking wine will help you feel sleepy and less nervous, but remember the consequences that might come from it. You’ll wake up feeling bloated, get anxiety attacks, look puffy, and might not feel the best. Try to drink a glass of water instead, and drink loads of it – maybe even throw in some vitamin drinks also. Your skin will thank you in the morning, and you’ll feel more refreshed than how you’d feel from alcoholic drinks.

Whiskey
Whiskey
  1. Eat something healthy

This is the night you might want to stop yourself from eating that greasy pizza or your favourite bag of chips. You wouldn’t want to wake up feeling bloated, so do your best to avoid it. Your body needs proper nutrition to stay healthy and to function well, so eat your fresh fruits and whole grains instead. Just be mindful of any past instances where you haven’t felt the best the night after a certain meal and simply stay away from it.

Wedding pizza

  1. Put extra love on your skin

You might have a glam team to make you feel and look beautiful for your wedding, but makeup on good skin will look so much more appealing. it may not be bthe most appropriate saying when talking about faces – but ‘you can’t polish a turd’ :). Make sure to free your face from any makeup and apply your skincare products the night before. Don’t even consider trying new skin products. You wouldn’t want to have breakouts or skin rashes, right? This goes for fake tans also! Often if you’re not the type of person to get a fake tan, it just looks horrible and sometimes stains your dress.

Makeup
Makeup
  1. Destress

During the past months or years, you’ve been stressing out about your wedding, maybe take the night before your wedding and realise it’s all done and what happens will happen. Consider having a digital detox to help you relax. Staying away from gadgets can help you sleep earlier and better, and it will prevent you from suddenly sending out a last-minute direction-change to your suppliers. Instead of watching online videos or your favourite series, try a more relaxing activity, such as reading a book or a magazine because it can help stop you from overthinking.

Ring Books
Ring Books
  1. Write a love note

As a wedding photographer and vidographer, I love this one! Capturing the emotions of your loved one reading your note makes for a lovely scene. Instead of spending the night worrying or imagining the worst things that can happen, why not take the moment to relive how you and your future partner met? Remind yourself of how much you two have grown, and then, create a short and sweet message to make your partner smile the next morning. This will get your mind off of things that aren’t important, and it will let you focus on what truly matters – your other half.

Reading letter
Reading letter
  1. Pamper yourself

Another thing you can do is to treat yourself. What activities do you like doing? If you like meditating, listening to music, or having a relaxing bath, give yourself some time to do it. You can also invite your bridesmaids and have a relaxed gathering together. Just make sure to not overdo it so that you won’t tire yourselves.

Bridal party on bed

  1. Get a good sleep

Do everything you can to get a good night’s sleep – it’s going to be hard, not many people sleep well before their wedding day, but do your best. Set your alarm, drink a calming tea, make your bed, and put a book by your bedside table. To make you feel even more relaxed, set an appointment and get a body massage. Remember that you need enough rest so that you can fully enjoy the long day ahead.

The night before your wedding is traditionally the last night you have for yourself, so try to make the most of your time. On the following days, you’ll have a life partner to join you in enjoying every moment!
