Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding – Kirsty & Andrew

    Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding

Bride and groom amongst gum trees

It was a stunningly sunny day for Kirsty and Andrew’s Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding. The small town of Sedan, near Renmark in the South Australian Riverland was the setting for this fun wedding where everyone just seemed to want to have a good time! I was asked to be their wedding photographer for their preparation through to the beginning of their reception, so lets jump straight into it shall we?

Preparation

I began the day at Kirsty and Andrew’s new house nearby the town of Sedan. I was quite excited to see some awesome gum trees on the horizon and rolling golden hills that I was hoping to use later in the day for their wedding photos.

Kirsty and her bridal party were being prepared here, and the atmosphere was quite laid back, with Kirsty more worried about where her boots were than any nerves she might have been feeling due to her being married a bit later.

As they had just moved into their new home, it was quite a neat thing to have the entire front room quite free in order to use while putting on the wedding dress – made taking photos that much easier! 🙂

Andrew and his groomsmen were getting ready in another farm house nearby, but this spot had some very nifty old ruins, which of course I made use of in the short amount of time I had with the boys. One thing I found very co-incidental is that Andrew and his boys were enjoying some clay shooting prior to me arriving for their photos, which I had only ever seen for the first time at the wedding I covered just the week prior! Is this a new trend? 😀

Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding

You simply cannot miss the Sedan Lutheran Church as it towers over the rest of the small town with it’s huge steeple and traditional small town church styling. It’s also located right on the intersection of 4 roads that lead into the center of town. The church itself is a bit on the small side, with only a single aisle leading through the middle of the church. As it was a reasonably hot day, it was a struggle for some guests to stay cool – but it wasnt overly stifling. One neat feature of the inside of the church is the ability for some guests to venture to the upper level – I got some neat shots from up there.

Kirsty and Andrew’s Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding was presided over a priest who was friend of the couple and began with the tolling of the church’s bells, which I dont see very often! It was a reasonably simple ceremony with a number of readings from guests and blessings from their priest.

One great thing about church weddings like this is when the bride and groom exits out the front, and if the guests are keen to help – I can tee up a fun shot of everyone throwing the rose petals over the couple – which of course I did!

Glamour Photos

After the required group photos out the front of the church, we head back inside of the church in order to take a few glamour photos using the pews and interior a little before heading out to the Renmark foreshore to make use of the greenery there. My favourite glamour photos from Kirsty and Andrew’s Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding though were taken on a portion of Kirsty and Andrew’s family land.

We drove to a spot where there was a ruin of an old cottage and barn which we made use of for some great shots, before moving to the nearby hills which I had a lot of fun flying over with my drone! We finished off in amongst the lovely gum trees growing out of a dry creek bed nearby.

Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club Wedding – Amy & Brendon

After a few false starts due to the unfortunate effect that the COVID-19 pandemic had, Amy and Brendon finally held their Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club Wedding on an overcast day in early February.

I had been looking forward to being Amy and Brendon’s wedding photographer for quite a while, having learnt much more about this couple than many others due to them having me also produce their RSVP website, writing and reading about their relationship on there – although the wedding ended up being held at a different venue.

The day was filled with fun, lovely people to be around and they all certainly turned it up a notch later at night on the dance floor!

Preparation

My day began with Brendon and his groomsmen being prepared with his parents and their ‘best dog’ which diddnt seem too keen on me that morning! Wasnt too sure about the flashing camera.

The atmosphere was jovial, with brendon running about trying to be as helpful as he can be to everyone there – perhaps to try to cover any nerves he was feeling that morning? 🙂

Amy and her bridal party was being prepared nearby at a bed and breakfast. It was a delightful house with a beautiful hall way that lead to a brightly lit master bed room where Amy got prepared.

The girls were all having a marvellous, laid back time sipping bubbly and enjoying each other’s company all morning, I’m not sure Amy ever stopped smiling!

Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club Wedding Ceremony

Amy and Brendon’s Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club wedding ceremony took place on the back directly in front of the club house. Unbeknownst to anyone prior to the day, it was a little unfortunate that the yacht club was holding a little regatta right next to where the ceremony had been set up! So hiding all the yacht trailers and people walking in the background of their photos was a bit of a challenge.

The weather was very calm, and cool due to the overcast sky which made for a perfect beach wedding ceremony. While a little bit of sunshine might have been pleasant; exposing photos on the white sand of the beach with a hot sun beating down, creating harsh shadows on faces isn’t easy – so the cloudy sky made for much nicer photo-taking conditions!

Amy and brendon’s ceremony was a lovely simple affair, with a fun little twist at the end where they randomly selected their witnesses to sign their marriage documents! This was a fun little nod to their personality, and also events leading up to their wedding day!

Amy and brendon had also asked me to live stream their wedding using my little livestream setup which worked very well for the guests who unfortunately could not attend due to COVID lockdowns.

After a (rather too quick) family shoot session – we whisked away to the Pt Willunga Jetty for glamour photos. Amy and brendon decided to head down there to make use of the stunning demolished jetty on display there.

We also made use of the nearby Kingston House gardens and made sure to head out during their reception for what was left of the sunset.

Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club Wedding Reception

Amy and Brendon’s Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club wedding reception took place in the club house upstairs, overlooking the stunning beach below where they held their ceremony.

They had my photobooth set up in the corner, complete with a custom made photobooth book I had made for them, but all focus was definately on the dance floor, which was full all night starting from the end of Amy adn brendon’s first dance!

Adelaide Botanic Garden Wedding – Jackie & David

    Adelaide Botanic Garden Wedding

    Walking through the bush

Jackie and David’s wedding was blessed with beautiful weather throughout their ceremony and when backed by the wonderful scenery of the Adelaide Botanic Garden, it made for a wedding that was an absolute joy to be a wedding photographer at! Jackie and David were particularly lucky with the weather due to the crazy Adelaide weather we were experiencing throughout January, but it turned out absolutely perfect for them. I was actually called up the day before to cover this wedding, so I was very pleased to have had no other booking on their day to photograph them!

Preparation

As Jackie and David opted to take advantage of my flexible hourly-based wedding photography package, I was asked to cover about an hour of Jackie’s preparation at a home just outside the city. The time was mostly spent running after the children and getting them ready, and then having the dress put on just before we were due to leave for the Botanic Garden.

Adelaide Botanic Garden Wedding Ceremony

Jackie and David’s wedding ceremony took place on a grassy hill overlooking the central Botanic Garden cafe and adjacent lake. The bridal party were protected from the harsh sun somewhat by a shadow cast by a nearby gum tree, which was good otherwise they would have struggled with the heat. It was the first time I had photographed a wedding taking place at this location within the Botanic Garden, with previous weddings I’ve covered taking place closer to the north terrace entrance. This area provided for a far nicer backdrop however and looked lovely.

Directly after the ceremony, and the group photos the bridal party and I walked around the botanic garden for around an hour to take some glamour photos. As the sun was quite low in the sky, I was particularly focused on using the incredible foliage the gardens provide to incorporate some sun flares into their wedding photos.

Ayer’s House Wedding Reception

Jackie and David’s wedding reception took place just across the road from the Botanic Garden at Ayer’s House, a stately reception venue which once housed the family of one of South Australia’s most successful politicians; Sir Henry Ayers. Today the house serves as a wedding and function center.

St Francis Winery Wedding – Fiona & Nick

    St Francis Winery Wedding

Fiona and Nick took advantage of my very flexible wedding photography packages to have me at their St Francis Winery wedding for 7 hours. The day went very well, with all guests enjoying themselves immensely. This was helped along as Fiona and Nick had a very  laid back and fun personality which was reflected by their wedding and the weather was absolutely splendid, but very sunny. I actually live within walking distance from the St Francis Winery and had been looking forward to being their wedding photographer there since they booked me.

Preparation photos

Both Fiona and Nick were prepared in the St Francis Winery accommodation, with both the groomsmen and bridal party being prepared at the same time, so I was walking in between rooms and the winery grounds. The groomsmen started out by playing a bit of AFL marks up out on the grass before donning their finery, as the bridesmaids were putting on their makeup. It’s been a while since I saw groomsmen in top hats and tails, but credit to the boys for wearing such an outfit on the very warm day. The bridal party were confined to their room as they did not want anyone to be able to see Fiona’s dress before the wedding ceremony.

St Francis Winery Wedding Ceremony

The St Francis Winery, located down south of Adelaide in Old Reynella is one of the original wineries in the famed southern Adelaide wine district. Originally owned by Reynella’s namesake, John Reynell and his family from 1869 to the early 1940’s the winery has been transformed into a 41 suite resort situated on 5 acres overlooking Lake Carew Reynell and built around the circa 1852 winery building. The suites are built surrounding a lovely courtyard grassy area with lovely old brick walls and wooden railings. The whole area feels beautifully rustic, while still being modern. The wedding ceremony itself took place next to the lake on the larger grassy area outside of the main banquet hall.

After the ceremony we roamed around the St Francis Winery’s land taking advantage of the gardens, and in particular the wonderful weeping willows situated around the lake. They provided an amazing backdrop breaking up the very harsh sunlight beating down on us.

Reception

Fiona and Nick’s entire wedding took place within the grounds of the St Francis Winery. Including their reception. They had booked out the two banquet halls, turning one hall into a dancefloor, while the other was filled with sit down tables for their guests. I did not have a lot of time at their reception, but I did manage to capture the important moments, including the cutting of the cake, their first dance and all their speeches.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding – Ciara & Max

    Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding

    Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding

It was a beautifully sunny day for Ciara and Max’s Adelaide Botanic Gardens wedding in April, which was great considering the kind of unpredictable weather we had been having leading up to the big day. With Ciara’s Irish heritage and Max’s Korean heritage, their wedding was a wonderful example of the coming together of two very separate cultures within one of the most multicultural of cities, Adelaide. I was asked to be their wedding photographer for the entire day, and we made good use of the time, covering a lot of ground to get the most diverse portfolio of wedding photography as possible in and around the Adelaide CBD and botanic gardens.

Preparation

I was to cover the preparation of just Ciara and her bridal party, who were getting ready nearby in the Mayfair hotel, as Max was spending the morning running about putting final finishing touches on things before the wedding ceremony. The girls were fairly laid back and had a lovely morning being pampered and getting pretty. Unfortunately the plan was to have a few photos taken in the upstairs Hennessy rooftop bar, only to find out it required a prior booking. This didn’t dampen spirits however while we took a few photos in and around the hotel room instead.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Ceremony

Ciara and Max’s Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Ceremony took place on the far side of the gardens, nearby the ‘Friends Gates’ on Plane Tree drive. The location boasts a beautiful grassy area, bordered by a small stream and a picturesque footbridge in the background of the whole setting. Despite the Adelaide Botanic Gardens being a public place, the venue can easily host around 3-4 weddings on the same day in different locations around the gardens without having too much of a hassle with members of the public wandering in the way of any photos or guests attending a wedding. The area also provides for some top notch vantage points for some incredible wedding photography, so I always enjoy visiting the gardens!

The ceremony was a lovely affair, complete with a traditional giving away of the bride by the father, and a rather beautiful hand binding ceremony that brought together the customs of the celtic together with Korean culture by using a traditionally woven sash brought from Korea specially for the occasion. The sun was out, and provided for a stunning backdrop filtering in through the giant gum tree Ciara and Max were wed under.
