Vale Park Family Photography – Dang Family

Family moments are some of the most precious to capture, and the Dang family’s Vale Park  family photography session was no exception. With around 11 family members, including three energetic children, eight loving adults, and a couple of well behaved dogs, this shoot was a celebration of togetherness and the joy of life’s milestones. From indoor moments full of charm to vibrant outdoor group shots, and ending with a playful cake smash for their youngest, this session captured it all.

Having spent much of last year just a stone’s throw from Vale Park, teaching photography at Marden Senior College, this location felt like home turf to me. The Dang family’s request to document their son’s first birthday, while also celebrating a rare gathering of extended family, made this shoot incredibly meaningful. Their enthusiasm and the significance of the occasion inspired every frame.

We began in the nursery, a cozy little room with whimsical wallpaper that immediately felt inviting. The space, adorned with soft colours and a playful touch, became the perfect stage for the first round of group portraits. A well-loved armchair was the centrepiece as the family crowded around it, creating a heartfelt visual story.

The energy was infectious as we worked through various combinations of family members, from grandparents proudly holding their grandkids to the siblings laughing together like they were kids again. Even the dogs were eager participants, adding an adorable touch to the indoor portraits. These intimate moments were all about showcasing the family’s connection, their laughter echoing through the room.

Outdoor Joy in the Garden

Stepping into the garden brought a fresh vibrancy to the session. The wide-open space, with its lush greenery and natural light, provided an ideal backdrop for larger group photos. As the children explored and played with their toys, their unfiltered joy shone through in every shot. Whether it was running on the grass, playing with the dogs, or giggling with their cousins, their playful energy brought the scene to life.

We arranged the adults and children into creative compositions, ensuring everyone had their moment in the spotlight. Grandparents beamed with pride as they stood amidst their growing family. The garden setting also allowed for candid moments—gentle hugs, shared jokes, and the small gestures of love that only a family can share.

A Sweet Finish with a Cake Smash

The grand finale of the session was the much-anticipated cake smash to celebrate the birthday boy’s big day. Back inside, we set up a bright and cheerful area backed by bunting and ballons for the little one to dig into his cake. The excitement was palpable as he hesitated for just a moment before diving into the frosting with curious hands.

The cake smash was a sensory delight for everyone involved, from the delighted squeals of the birthday boy to the laughter of his family watching the messy fun unfold. It was the perfect way to wrap up the session—joyful, spontaneous, and utterly unforgettable. These photos captured the essence of childhood and the love that surrounded him on this special day.

After the cake smash came an unexpected but equally delightful moment—a quick bath for the birthday boy. With cake crumbs and frosting smeared from head to toe, it was the perfect opportunity to capture some candid, playful shots of him splashing around in the tub. His wide-eyed wonder and giggles as the water washed away the sticky mess created some of the most heartwarming images of the day. I of course havent included any online 🙂

The Dang’s family photoshoot was a heartfelt gathering that captured their connections and the unique dynamics of their time together. From the warm interactions between grandparents and grandchildren to the lively fun of a cake smash, every photo reflected the genuine bonds within their family.
