And it’s all over! the SvenStudio’s people’s choice wedding photograph of the year 2015 is over and here are the results! I would like to thank all those who took part in the contest, and all those who voted. There were over 500 legitimate votes counted over the month and a half the people’s choice contest was running. While the vote counts totalled 713 individual votes, quite a few were duplicate votes made by the same people of which I have been tracking and have taken into account with the resulting winner of the contest. In future editions of the people’s choice contest I may have to restrict voting by linking each vote to a facebook account. Anyway, without further adieu, the results!

Winner of the voter’s Prize
Vencislav P.
Congratulations to Vencislav P. for winning the voter’s prize of $100 cash for their vote on Irina & Jack‘s entry made on the 26th of February. I will be emailing you soon.
Winning photos
Despite having a different number of total votes by the end of the voting period, both the entries from the weddings of Belinda & Jono and Kristy & Toby incredibly garnered the same number of legitimate votes after deducting all duplicate votes at 181 apiece. As a result, I’m declaring that both entries are winners and will both receive the first prize which is an acrylic mounted print of their photo worth $600.

Danielle and Adam were married in one of the oldest little churches in South Australia on an incredible day amongst wonderful people. The entire day, despite being quite a long one for me was an absolute joy to be a part of. Their Seppeltsfield wedding was held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Rowland flat then headed off down the road for glamour photos at the stunning Seppeltsfield winery which I had visited for a previous wedding. Finally their reception was held at the rather interestingly built Barossa Weintal Hotel. Danielle and Adam took advantage of my generous full day wedding package to have me right from the beginning of the bridal party’s preparation at their hairdresser’s in North Adelaide, right through to the end of their reception in Tanunda.
Preparation Photos
As I said, I was with the girls first, which kind of breaks from my usual itinerary for a wedding day, but they asked me to take photos as they were having their hair done so I went! I always aim to cover exactly what my clients ask of me!

After about 30 minutes of taking photos at the bridal party’s hair salon, I headed to the place of preparation for Adam and his grooms men. I was quite surprised to find that one of his grooms men was Jono, a groom I shot his wedding for only a few months earlier! It’;s absolutely crazy how often I bump into people I had previously met at other weddings I cover. Adelaide is such a small city in many ways 🙂

After the grooms men I then headed off to the house where Danielle was being prepared with her bridesmaids and flower girls after having had their hair done. The decor in their house lent itself well to the taking of wonderful wedding photographs, with a marble table for closeups of rings and bridal affects through to a wonderful lit doorway to hang the wedding dress.

Trinity Lutheran Church Wedding Ceremony
The Trinity Lutheran Church in Rowland flat was built in 1853 after the disastrous flooding of the Hoffnungsthal settlement nearby. However the original church no longer stands as a new Church was built in 1955. A pretty little church, the building boasts a beautiful single steeple and large square lobby with 3 way doors. Two leading outside while the third into the chapel proper. The church is surrounded by easily accessible vineyards which we made use of for wedding photos.

Seppeltsfield winery photos
Directly after the ceremony, family photos and using the nearby vineyards for a few shots, we headed off down the road to the picturesque Seppeltsfield winery. The Seppeltsfield winery is an iconic winery in the Barossa region, with history dating back to 1851. The grounds offer absolutely amazing backdrops perfectly suitable for wedding photography.

Barossa Weintel Hotel Reception
The Barossa Weintel Hotel caters for weddings, big and small. Danielle and Adam’s wedding reception took place in their main room that was cause for much debate of what it used to be. The room was circular and it’s roof was raked into the centre resembling a rocket ship’s nose. While we were enjoying the marvellous fare provided by the staff, we put forward a number of theories, including grain silo through to old horse training building. Nothing really made a lot of sense for a number of reasons so it remained a mystery. Was a pretty room none the less, perfect for wedding receptions. Perhaps someone could enlighten me with a comment below on what it used to be?

Thankyou Danielle and Adam for having me as their wedding photographer and I hope you enjoy your wedding photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!
For the first wedding of the year, I was down at Somerton Beach, just in front of the Somerton Beach life Saving club for Lise and Mark’s simple beach front wedding. It was fun learning that what first brought myself to their attention as a potential wedding photographer was my default name of ‘Sven’ being that it’s a name of Scandinavian origin, and Lise was from Northern Europe herself. They were wed on the beach, with their reception in the life saving club, however they chose to take advantage of my affordable 3 hour package which saw me cover about 30 minutes of Lise’s preparation, and then the time in-between their ceremony and reception.
Preparation photos
Lise was being prepared at their nearby house with the help of her friend who also happened to be her make-up artist and dress maker! The entire day was quite simple, as that’s what Lise and Mark wanted, the whole day really reflected their personality perfectly.

Somerton Beach Wedding Ceremony
Despite the warmth of the day, there were not many people using the beach, which was fantastic as Lise and Mark had set up a wedding arch to be used as a wedding focal point just down the end of the Somerton Beach surf club’s boat ramp. There were a few passer bys but on the whole the only thing not perfect about the ceremony was Mark’s go pro falling from the wooden arch which he had placed there to capture a bit of home video.

Directly after the wedding ceremony, Lise, Mark and I set off along the beach front for a few photos. We also travelled down to Brighton Jetty and the nearby historic Kingston House where we could overlook both Brighton and Somerton beaches, which happened to be one of Lise and Mark’s first date locations.

Finally, as a bit of fun, I noticed form the artwork hanging in Lise and Mark’s house that they had a bit of a quirky side and enjoyed zombies, so I suggested we take a bit of a zombie shot, similar to what I’ve done before with Harry Potter themes and dinosaurs. So we rustled up some zombies from a nearby cemetery and lined them up for a bit of a shot 🙂
The wedding of Linda and Barry was a wonderful day down at Victor Harbor on new year’s eve 2015. They were wed at the St Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Victor Harbor while having their reception at the McCracken Country Club. Obviously, having a wedding on new year’s eve mandates that the wedding photographer captures some photos of the couple kissing under fireworks at midnight, so that’s what I did! It was a long day, but getting that shot as Linda and Barry’s wedding photographer was an absolute joy as I’d always wanted to capture that kind of shot! Linda and Barry took advantage of my generous full day package so that I was available all day from the groom’s preparation through to that all important fireworks shot I had been so looking forward to capturing.
Preparation
Barry and his grooms men, along with his family were being prepared down the road from the McCracken country club in the Frontage Apartments. Many of Linda and Barry’s family and guests had travelled from Ireland, New Zealand and interstate to be in Victor Harbor for this glorious day and I could really feel the grandness of the occasion. Barry was nervous, I had trouble understanding accents, all while everyone was running about trying to get ready. It was fantastic to be a part of.

Linda was being prepared in a McCracken country club apartment overlooking the magnificent fairway. As is a common occurrence these days, the bridal party were in charge of the wedding bands, apparently its common to not trust the boys with the rings 🙂 But the interesting part of this was that Linda had not yet seen the rings, and were a bit of a surprise, so while I was taking photos of the rings and jewellery, she was relegated to her bedroom! Linda’s flower girls were flown out of Ireland on their first visit to Australia for the occasion.

St Joan of Arc Church Victor Harbour Wedding Ceremony
The St Joan of Arc Church was one of the earlier churches built in Victor Harbor, named in 1920, interestingly a few months before Joan of Arc was made a Saint, it was the third Church built since Victor Harbor’s founding as a port in 1838. A brilliant white church, with a surprisingly spacious interior, the church boasts an organ and a tall roof supported by imposing white marble columns, allowing for a passage way either side of the two pew rows.

Victor Harbor glamour shots
Since the development of the railway in the 1960s, Victor Harbor turned from an important commercial port to a pretty holiday and retirement destination. Points of interest include the coastline including Granite island, the Bluff and Petrel cove, all three of which we made good use of while taking some glamour photos. Unfortunately being a bit of a windy day, Linda’s long veil unfortunately flew off her head while we were using the 141 year old causeway to Granite island and drifted down into the water! thankfully it was only knee deep so I waded out to gather it!

McCracken Country Club Reception
The McCracken Country Club is a sprawling complex, complete with function room, hotel and apartment style accommodation, all surrounding and overlooking a sweeping golf course and a short drive away from the center of Victor Harbor. It just so happens this was the second time within a month I had covered a wedding at the complex. The reception hall is elegantly simple, studded with wine barrels and overlooking the fairway with large windows, it’s a nice little reception venue suitable for small or large gatherings.

New Year’s eve fireworks
The Country Club has a nice view of the location where the Victor Harbor New Year’s fireworks were being conducted so that I could set up my tripod and shoot Linda and Barry kissing under the lit sky without much difficulty. The results were absolutely fantastic, and I’m so pleased I managed to capture the moment as I had planned.

The wonderful wedding of Belinda and Jono took place at the St Pauls Hahndorf church for their ceremony, then for their glamour photography ventured into Stirling and Port Noarlunga beach before heading to the Middlebrook Estate Winery in Mclaren Vale for their reception. Belinda and Jono had me as their wedding photographer for the entire day, taking advantage of my generous full day wedding package, and what a beautiful day it was!. Just before the ceremony we were getting a little worried that the day was going to ba an absolute stinker of a day, pushing 40 degrees for most of the week, the morning of Belinda and Jono’s wedding was no different. Fortunately, just as Belinda was walking up to the Church, it spat for about 20 seconds, cooling the whole day just that little bit.
Preparation photos
Jono was being prepared in Klemzig, and had the most awesome grooms men gifts I’ve ever seen at a wedding. Far from the usual things groomsmen have trouble with when getting prepared, for this wedding they’d be learning how to wield a katana. Jono bought them all an engraved katana sword as a groomsmen gift. How awesome is that?

Belinda was being prepared in the couple’s apartment in the Adelaide CBD. It was clear that Belinda and Jono thought along the same wave lengths as as soon as I walked into the door and she saw me eyeing the Lord of the Rings sword they had on their wall, she immediately started swinging it around! Belinda was prepared in next to no time and we were on our way to Hahndorf.

St Pauls Hahndorf wedding ceremony
The St Pauls Hahndorf church is part of the Lutheran Church of Australia and dedicated in 1858 by German settlers who left the German provinces of Posen, Silesia and Brandenburg to escape religious persecution in 1838-39. However, the original church that stood became worn and dilapidated by the late 1880’s and it was decided a newer church was to be built. And that is the building we see today. It’s still over 126 years old, as this new church was built as the new St Pauls Hahndorf in 1890.

After walking around the grounds of the St Pauls Hahndorf church a bit, the original plan was to head to Kuitpo forest for some Australian themed wedding photography, however, due to the extreme heat during the week the forest was closed, so we had to find an alternative. I suggested a little known oasis that is the Woorabina Reserve, complete with a lake harbouring native turtles and koalas. Of which we saw two while walking about. After, on the way to the reception venue in Mclaren Vale, we headed to the Port Noalunga beach for a few beach shots.

Middlebrook Estate Winery reception
Belinda and Jono’s wedding reception was held at the Middlebrook Estate Winery in Mclaren Vale. A bit of a trek out from Hahndorf, but I certainly know what they chose this venue for their reception. The staff are fabulous and the setting is stunning, particularly at twilight as the sun just crests the horizon. The vineyards and gazebo, surrounded by sprawling grass is beautiful.
