Fleurieu Cherries Wedding – Kimberley & Richard
A Fleurieu Cherries Wedding has a way of feeling instantly relaxed, and Kimberley and Richard leaned right into that energy. From the moment I arrived, it was clear this day was about connection, comfort, and doing things their own way. As a wedding photographer in Adelaide, stepping into a wedding venue for the first time is always exciting, and Fleurieu Cherries delivered that sense of discovery in the best possible way. Open space, native gums, and a welcoming, lived-in feel made it easy to settle in and start telling their story.
Kimberley and Richard are the kind of couple who make everyone around them feel at ease. They met while travelling, and that worldly, open-hearted outlook shaped the entire day. Nothing felt forced or overly structured. Guests wandered, laughed, and connected, while the couple floated happily between conversations. It was a wedding that prioritised people over polish, without ever sacrificing beauty.
The setting itself played a huge role in that atmosphere. Fleurieu Cherries feels more like a private property than a formal venue, which suited Kimberley and Richard perfectly. The space invited guests to relax, kick off their shoes, and enjoy the afternoon unfolding naturally. From a photographer’s perspective, that kind of freedom is gold. Moments happen organically, expressions stay genuine, and the images reflect real emotion rather than stiff poses.
Fleurieu Cherries Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony space was tucked among beautiful native gum trees, creating a natural canopy that filtered the light in the most flattering way. The backdrop felt quintessentially South Australian, grounding the day firmly in the Fleurieu Peninsula. Birds chirped softly, leaves rustled in the breeze, and the whole area carried a calm, homely warmth that wrapped around everyone gathered there.
Kimberley and Richard chose a ceremony that was personal and heartfelt, without being overly formal. Their dog played a starring role, trotting proudly through the space and stealing plenty of attention. Including pets in a wedding always adds a layer of authenticity, and this was no exception. The joy on their faces whenever their furry friend appeared was unmistakable and made for some wonderfully candid photographs.
One of the standout moments came with Richard’s ring reveal. As a wedding photographer, you see a lot of rings, but this one was genuinely unforgettable. His ring doubled as a bottle opener, a quirky detail that had everyone laughing. Even funnier was the fact that the couple don’t actually drink, making it purely a playful, personality-driven choice. Those small, unexpected details are often what couples remember most, and they bring so much character to a Fleurieu Cherries Wedding ceremony.

After the ceremony, we eased into some relaxed glamour photos with Kimberley and Richard and their bridal party. Fleurieu Cherries offers so much variety within a compact area, making it easy to move between locations without pulling the couple away from their guests for too long. The on-site swing was an instant favourite, adding a sense of fun and movement to the images.
The wide paddocks surrounding the property created a beautiful sense of openness. Soft grass underfoot, expansive skies overhead, and the gum trees framing everything made the photos feel effortless and natural. Kimberley’s energy shone through during this time. With a background in dance, she brought a wonderful awareness of movement and posture, which translated beautifully on camera without ever feeling posed.
Richard balanced that energy perfectly, grounded and relaxed, clearly enjoying the process. The bridal party added another layer of fun, laughing between shots and making the most of the space. These moments felt less like a photoshoot and more like friends hanging out together, which is exactly the vibe Kimberley and Richard wanted.
Reception
The reception unfolded as a long, leisurely afternoon rather than a tightly scheduled event. Guests mingled freely, settling into conversations, wandering the grounds, and finding pockets of fun wherever they liked. Fleurieu Cherries lends itself beautifully to this style of celebration, offering room to roam without losing that intimate feel.
One of the unexpected highlights was the on-site golf hole. Watching guests take turns lining up their shots added a playful energy to the day. One particular Scottish guest, kilt and all, absolutely dominated the competition, drawing cheers and laughter from everyone nearby. It was one of those unscripted moments that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.
Lawn games dotted the space, giving guests plenty to do between chats and snacks. The old tractor and swing became popular photo spots, especially for those wanting something a little different from the usual group shots. And then there was the ice cream. Without a doubt, it was a crowd favourite. On a warm Fleurieu day, it was the perfect treat and kept smiles firmly in place.
Perhaps the most unexpected moment of the entire Fleurieu Cherries Wedding came with the cake cutting, or rather, the lack of a traditional cake. Instead, Kimberley and Richard opted for a piñata filled with lollies. Watching them bash it open together, sending sweets flying in every direction, was pure joy. Guests scrambled, laughed, and cheered, and the photos from that moment are some of the most vibrant of the day.
As the afternoon rolled on, Kimberley’s background as a dancer took centre stage. She and some of her guests performed elaborate dance numbers, turning the reception area into an impromptu stage. The energy was infectious, drawing people in and creating a celebratory buzz that carried through the rest of the evening. These were moments bursting with movement and expression, exactly the kind of scenes that make wedding photography so rewarding.

After guests began to depart, Kimberley and Richard were happy to spend a little more time together for some final photos. The light was soft and golden, filtering gently through the gum trees and across the cherry orchards. This quiet window at the end of the day offered a beautiful contrast to the lively reception, giving them space to breathe and soak it all in.
Wandering among the trees, with the orchards stretching out around us, felt like the perfect way to close their wedding story. The images from this time are calm, intimate, and deeply reflective of who they are as a couple. Fleurieu Cherries revealed yet another side of itself in that fading light, reinforcing just how versatile and special the location is.
From start to finish, Kimberley and Richard’s Fleurieu Cherries Wedding was a celebration of individuality, connection, and joy. As an Adelaide wedding photographer, discovering a venue like this through such a thoughtfully planned day is always a privilege. Fleurieu Cherries has firmly earned a place on my list of locations I’m excited to return to, especially for couples looking for something relaxed, personal, and beautifully grounded in the Fleurieu Peninsula.
