Set in the idyllic South Australian countryside, the venue offered a picturesque setting that felt like it was made for moments like these. From the stunning gardens to the charming pavilion, Alru Farm was the ideal backdrop for every chapter of Ellie and Tom’s story.

The weather played along beautifully, creating soft, golden light that highlighted the vibrant gardens and natural beauty of the farm. Surrounded by the people they love most, Ellie and Tom embraced every moment with joy, making this day one to remember for everyone who attended.

Preparation

Ellie and Tom began their wedding day in the delightful Garden Pavilion at Alru Farm. Deciding to get ready together was a meaningful choice, creating a calm and heartfelt start to the day. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as they shared smiles and enjoyed the peaceful morning surrounded by the lush greenery outside.

While Tom and his father used the pavillion, we also head over to the Australia Suite, Ellie and her bridal party stayed in the pavilion. As Ellie stepped into her elegant wedding dress, the energy shifted into a quiet sense of anticipation. Her helpers buzzed around, making sure every detail was perfect. The setting provided wonderful opportunities to capture these moments, from the light streaming through the windows to the charming décor of the space.

First Look

Their first look took place in one of Alru Farm’s most enchanting spots—a grassy area framed by a tunnel of wisteria (at least I think it’s wisteria, I’m not a botanist). The walk leading up to Tom was as romantic as it was emotional, with Ellie moving gracefully under the cascading blooms.

Tom’s reaction said it all. His smile lit up the space as he turned to see Ellie for the first time in her dress. The moment was filled with pure emotion, creating a memory that will forever be etched in their hearts. After a few minutes to soak it all in, we captured some intimate portraits surrounded by the vivid flowers blooming nearby.

Alru Farm’s expansive grounds were a photographer’s paradise, offering an array of stunning locations to capture Ellie and Tom’s special day. The manicured gardens, bursting with vibrant flowers, provided a romantic and colorful backdrop for their portraits. Ellie and Tom were a dream to photograph. Their natural chemistry and genuine love for each other radiated in every frame, making my job an absolute joy. Whether they were stealing a quiet moment together under the canopy of trees or sharing a laugh surrounded by blooming flowers, their connection was unmistakable.

As the sun began its descent, the golden hour draped the property in a warm, ethereal glow. This soft light illuminated the gardens, casting long, gentle shadows that added depth and richness to the images. We basically ran to the long grass out the front of the property as I knew the sun was fading fast, but we managed to get some great shots. The soft pastel hues of the setting sun created a magical atmosphere, turning an already beautiful scene into something truly extraordinary.

As the festivities continued, we stepped out for one last photo opportunity—a stunning Milky Way shot with the iconic Alru Farm lighthouse in the foreground. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with unforgettable moments.

Having spent time with the couple just days prior at their pre-wedding dinner at Mt Lofty Summit, I had a sense of the deep bond they shared, and their Al Ru Farm wedding truly brought it to life in the most stunning way.

Their pre-wedding dinner was a lively gathering filled with traditional attire and cultural flair, creating a stark but beautiful contrast to the timeless Western elegance of their wedding day. Al Ru Farm, with its rustic charm and sweeping gardens, played host to a ceremony and reception that blended cultural traditions with modern sophistication, making it an unforgettable event.

Preparation

Samuel started his morning in the iconic International Suite at Al Ru Farm, a space brimming with character and charm. The suite’s rich wooden paneling, cherry blossom centerpiece, and expansive windows overlooking the grounds make it an absolute gem for wedding photography. Al Ru Farm Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony took place beneath the floral archway at the end of the garden pathway, a signature feature of an Al Ru Farm wedding. With the sun shining and a gentle breeze in the air, the setting was picture-perfect. Samuel’s emotions were on full display as he saw Shilsha walk down the aisle, and the heartfelt moment was a highlight of the day.

Guests smiled and cheered as they watched Grandma take on the role of flower girl, and of course, the couple’s little dog act as ring bearer, trotting down the aisle with the rings secured to its collar, eliciting delighted laughs and a few happy tears.

Al Ru Farm Wedding Reception

The reception was held in Al Ru Farm’s rustic barn, where twinkling lights and floral arrangements created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Speeches filled the room with laughter and tears as family and friends shared stories and blessings for the newlyweds. One of the evening’s highlights was the traditional chair dance, a spirited and joyful moment that had everyone on their feet. Even a slight mishap—Shilsha ending up on the floor during the first attempt—added to the fun and made for a memorable story.

The night was a lively celebration, with dancing, great food, and plenty of smiles. Later in the evening, we snuck out to capture some night portraits by the greenhouse, with the stars above adding a touch of magic. Al Ru Farm weddings are known for their charm and beauty, and Shilsha and Samuel’s celebration exemplified everything that makes this venue so special.

Beautiful Williamstown Wedding – Brendan & Ian

Love and joy overflowed at Brendan and Ian’s stunning Williamstown wedding. This picturesque Adelaide Hills location provided the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern elegance. The boisterous same-sex couple tied the knot on a beautifully landscaped private property, a haven of tranquility and beauty borrowed from generous friends. Originally, the plan was to host the entire day at this serene spot, but the allure of the Norwood Hotel led to a delightful change in plans for the reception.

The theme of the day, “The Officer and the Gentleman,” was a delightful nod to Brendan’s Air Force career and Ian’s charming mustachioed presence. Their personalities shone through every detail, making the day as unique as their love story.

Williamstown Wedding Preparation

The morning was abuzz with excitement and laughter as Brendan and Ian prepared together for their big day at the private residence on site. The atmosphere was both relaxed and electric, with friends and family bustling around, ensuring everything was perfect. The property itself was a dream, recently landscaped to showcase its natural beauty while providing all the comforts of a stately home.

Brendan, the Air Force officer, looked dashing in his uniform, while Ian, the epitome of a gentleman, sported a tailored suit that highlighted his charismatic personality. The couple chose to embrace the joy of the day by getting ready side by side, sharing smiles, encouraging words, and a few light-hearted moments that eased any pre-wedding jitters. Every moment was filled with anticipation, love, and a touch of playful nerves, setting the perfect tone for the celebration to come.

Al-Ru Farm Glamour Photos

Our next stop was the enchanting Al-Ru Farm for some glamour photos. Despite the midday sun presenting a bit of a challenge, the farm’s spectacular grounds provided a stunning backdrop. The light may have been harsh, but it added a unique charm to the photos, casting beautiful shadows and highlighting the vibrant greenery.

Brendan and Ian’s camaraderie was evident as they posed with their borrowed car and the famed plane on a pole, which we later photoshopped into an attacking biplane for a whimsical touch. The farm’s timeless beauty, combined with the couple’s joyful spirits, made for an unforgettable photo session.

Williamstown Wedding Ceremony

Back at the Williamstown property, guests were greeted by a spectacular grazing table, a feast for both the eyes and the palate. The raw honeycomb and sandwich meat combo was a particular favorite of mine, offering a delightful blend of flavors that perfectly matched the day’s celebratory vibe.

This Williamstown wedding ceremony took place under a majestic gum tree at the rear of the property, a setting as timeless as their love. Guests were coaxed down to this serene spot, where they settled in anticipation. Brendan and Ian arrived in style, walking down the aisle together, their smiles lighting up the entire scene. The ceremony was a testament to their shared love of pop culture, with references to “Grace and Frankie” and “Schitt’s Creek” adding a touch of humor and warmth.

After exchanging vows, the couple sealed a time capsule wine bottle to be opened on their anniversary, a beautiful symbol of their commitment. A surprise bagpiper appeared on a hill, serenading guests and adding a magical touch to the proceedings. The ceremony was as heartfelt as it was unique, reflecting the couple’s personalities perfectly.

Following the ceremony, we took advantage of the golden hour for more glamour photos. The drive back to the Norwood Hotel provided plenty of picturesque spots, each more stunning than the last. One particularly memorable location was a hill overlooking the sunset, where the sky blazed with colors, creating a breathtaking backdrop for Brendan and Ian’s love.

The couple’s joy was palpable as they posed for photos, their love story captured against the magnificent Adelaide Hills scenery. These moments were a beautiful blend of natural beauty and genuine emotion, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Norwood Hotel Wedding Reception

The Norwood Hotel reception was a celebration of music, love, and joy. Brendan and Ian’s passion for music was evident throughout the evening. Brendan even took to the stage, violin in hand, to serenade Ian with a unique song, a heartfelt moment that had everyone cheering.

The first dance was a surprise for Ian, but his radiant smile showed just how much he enjoyed it. The couple’s love and happiness were infectious, spreading to everyone in attendance. The reception was a joyous celebration, filled with laughter, dancing, and heartfelt toasts.

The Norwood Hotel’s ambiance perfectly complemented the day’s events, offering a blend of elegance and warmth. The evening ended on a high note, with Brendan and Ian surrounded by their loved ones, celebrating their new journey together.

Al-Ru Wedding – Emma & Nickolai

Emma and Nickolai certainly chose the perfect time of year to hold their Al-Ru wedding – just at the end of Autumn so that they had all the amazing colours that such a stunningly curated garden like Al-Ru Farm can provide!

I would have expected nothing less from Nickolai – landscape extraordinaire – who was sure to give me a thorough botanic lesson on some of the trees we were using as backdrops during their photo shoot!

Emma and Nickolai’s day was beaiutifully laid back, and family-oriented which made for a lovely atmosphere and an over-all amazing day!

Preparation

Nickolai was being prepared nearby in a friend’s house in Gawler. The homebrew beers and some exceptional liquor was handy and paired nicely with the Dominos pizza they had sourced for lunch.

While Nickolai was being prepared alongside a number of friends, both Nickolai and Emma did not have any bridal party, and instead just wanted to be prepared along side friends and family without having to burden anyone with the rigour of official bridal party business.

One rather neat addition to the whole preparation was Nickolai’s gift to his father in the way of a tie adorned with sunflowers – which represented their Ukranian heritage and I thought was rather touching. I was half expecting some other Ukranian customs to be held later too!

Emma and her friends were being prepared at the cutre little cottage on site at Al-Ru Farm. This cottage, I feel is the best spot to be prepared for a wedding in all of Adelaide due to it’s cute aesthetic and huge sweeping windows that suit as a backdrop to almost anything wedding related!

The atmosphere here was fun and laid back, with the proceedings punctuated by a touching first look by Emma’s Dad who came in and made everyone tear up as he spun around and saw his daugher all dressed up as a bride for the first time 🙂

Al-Ru Wedding Ceremony

Emma and Nickolai’s Al-Ru Wedding ceremony took place at the foot of the pond and roman columns set amongst the greenery of the gardens. This meant that Emma approached her ceremony from behind Nickolai and did not walk through her waiting guests to beghin their ceremony.

An Auslan interpreter was on site all day for those who needed it, while the ceremony itself was lovely and simple with some heartfelt vows and readings throughout.

After the cermeony, we staged a bit of a bride and groom exit up on the homestead’s main lawn where the guests lined a corridor to throw petals over the newly wedded couple.

Glamour Photos

Oh boy did I have fun taking Emma and Nickolai’s photos! I mean they certainly made it simple for me by choosing an incredible time of year, they are both gorgeous looking people and the surronds you get to work with at an Al-Ru wedding is simply divine. The only thing that was a little dissapointing was the lack of any significant sunset due to cloud coverage, but it was still really pretty!

A big reason why Emma and Nickolai had me as their wedding phtographer was my tendancy to love taking photos with a bit of a landscape feel – bringing the entirety of the scenery into my photos rather than only focusing on them as portraits. There’s few better places to do this than at an Al-Ru Wedding!

We also made sure to use the famed Al-Ru greenhouse at night for a bit of night time photography, and walked around a bit int he dark with some smoke 🙂

Al-Ru Wedding Reception

Emma and Nickolai’s Al-Ru Wedding reception was punctuated by heartfelt speeches through Auslan and interpreters and highlighted by the personal touches they, and their friends had added to their most amazing day – including one of the most interesting wedding cakes I have seen!

The rest of their night was full of singing, dancing and just having a great time. The whole day was awesome to be a part of and I hope Emma and Nickolai enjoy their photos as much as I enjoyed creating them!

AlRu Farm Wedding – Emma & Brad

I was priviledged anough to have been asked to be Emma and Brad’s Wedding photographer at their stunning AlRu Farm wedding towards the end of May!

The setting, the atmosphere, the weather and just about everything came together to form the most perfect day for these two newly weds, and it was an absolute joy to be a part of!

Preparation

I began the day with Brad and his groomsmen getting prepared in the on-site International Suite accomodation which boasts a large living area lots of beautiful natural light streaming in throught he rustic windows that line the rooms. The setting is delightful for preparation photos with such a lovely, rustic backdrop.

We also made a point of walking about the grounds a little but – without sneaking a peek of Emma as she was also being prepared on site in a different area.

Emma was being prepared also on-site in the Garden Pavillion, which is in my experience the best place for the bridal party to get ready due to it’s wonderfully huge windows lining the entire length of the cottage making for a stunning backdrop for bridal portraits and shots of the dress. AlRu Farm has such a wonderful set up in regards to accomodation, providing 3 separate, wonderful spots for preparation photos on a wedding day – which makes it one of my favourite wedding venues in Adelaide.

Emma and her bridesmaids were really relaxed all morning leadning up to the moment where we head out for Emma and Brad’s ‘first look’ amongst the gardens of Alru Farm. We even had a bit of fun tryign to get the cork to fly off a champaign bottle! Lucky we had 2 to get it right!

First Look

Emma and Brad opted to have a first look done before the ceremony, having the nerves and pent up energy of the day shared with their bridal party rather than the entirety of their guests at the ceremony itself.

We also made use of the time before the ceremony to walk around the grounds a bit to take some glamour phtoos with the bridal party with the idea that they will have more time after the ceremony to spend with their guests rather than taking phtoos all day.

We walked around the grounds of Alru Farm making use of the overcast day to really allow the yellows for the dying autumnal leaves to come through as much as possible in their photos. We also made friends with the local wildlife while walking about!

AlRu Farm Wedding Ceremony

Emma and Brad’s AlRu Farm wedding ceremony took place in the shaded grassy area nearby the on-site pond, allowing the bridal procession to walk through the famous romanesque pillars as they approached the wedding ceremony.

The area allows for the bridal party to be elevated in front of their guests on the stairs, while having the pond and parts of the pillars as a backdrop.

The weather was just perfect for their ceremony, with the sun making an appearance right towards the end, allowing for some awesome group photos at the end!

More Glamour Photos

After the group shots – which Emma specifially requested we do while moving, allowing for different backdrops in a majority of their group photos. I was keen to make use fo the dying sunlight that was making a beautiful specticle of itself shining through the foliage at AlRu Farm.

This is the best thing about having an AlRu Farm wedding – the whole place seems to be geared towards precisely this time of day, with the sun dropping down over the horizon, and it’s beams shining through the trees like it does – just makes for an amazing time as a wedding photographer!

At night time too! An Alru Farm wedding would not be complete if I diddnt fill the on-site greenhouse with a bit of smoke and create some amazing silhouettes!

AlRu Farm Wedding Reception

Emma and Brad’s Alru Farm wedding reception took place in the old barn house that’s on site. It’s a rustic space, lined with floor to ceiling mirrors that accomodates more guests than you would expect!

Emma and Brad’s love for animals was on display all night, with multiple references among the speeches which sometimes made for some fun listening hearing about the exploits they get up to in regards to adopting too many furry friends!

The night was full of fun, dancing and interesting customs, including shuffling along the dance floor duing one’s head like a broom. It was a really fun night that I was super glad to have been a part of!
