Milena and Steven held their wedding under the big tree at the northern end of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens on a rather warm November day. I always love the kind of weddings where a huge mixture of cultures come together to have a huge party sharing all the fun traditions each culture celebrates for weddings. In Milena and Steven’s case it was the mixture of Serbian and New Zealand culture with a dash of a few others in there too. It was a tonne of fun as their wedding photographer! I was asked to cover their entire day and this is their preview.
Preparation
Steven and his entourage were being prepared at a hotel within the Adelaide CBD. The morning was pretty laid back and cruisy with the boys helping each other do up their ties all while using their sense of humour to have a bit of fun at Steven’s expense. Some nerves were showing through, but Steven handled it well.
The girls were being prepared at a house just north of the city. Milena was handing the nerves far better than Steven and there were smiles all round, at least until the little one started being a pain not wanting to put on his suit 😛 But he came around.
Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Ceremony
There’s a large old gum tree in on the northern edge of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens which in my experience in all the times I’ve covered a wedding here, seems to be the most popular spot in the gardens. It’s a great spot as there’s a huge grassy area for guests and the sun goes down behind the heads of the bride and groom, so on a sunny day it creates a wonderful halo over their heads. Thankfully as the day was a very warm day, the sky was fairly overcast so it took the edge off the sun.
As part of their ceremony, Milena and Steven opted for a rose ceremony whereby members of their family would add a flower to a vase, symbolising the coming together of the family, it was a nice little gesture as once the family members approached the vase, they had the opportunity to give their personal well wishes formally to the newly weds.
Adelaide Botanic Gardens Glamour Photos
I love using the botanic gardens for weddings photos, as it seems as though the entire place was set up for just such an occasion! Unfortunately due to the weather however we had to cut the walking down a bit, but that was ok as we visiting most of the ‘money shot’ locations around the place. We also even got to duplicate a photo Milena and Steven had taken on one of their first dates, which is always nice!
Community Center of Serbia & Montenegro Wedding Reception
Apparently it was a multi-generational tradition for Milena’s family to celebrate their marriage at the Community Center of Serbia and Montenegro, with several of their family members also celebrating their marriage there. It was during the reception where the multicultural nature of the entire day really came alive, complete with serbian circle dancing with live singers, and the New Zealand tradition of singing after speeches and of course, what I was most looking forward to, the Haka!
The entire night was a blast to shoot, as everyone was completely fueled by some Serbian hard liquor and the music never stopping all night!
I’d love to thank Milena and Steven for having me as their wedding photographer and I hope they enjoy their photos!
Renee and Paul’s wedding took place in a beautifully intimate garden, hidden behind the Crafers Cottages bed and breakfast, and directly in front of the Crafers primary school. You would never know this oasis of a garden exists unless you were brought there for a wedding, and what a stunning wedding this was! renee and Paul opted to keep their guests to a minimum to keep the celebrations as low key as possible which allowed for a wedding ceremony full of love. I was to cover their wedding photography for 3 hours, beginning at their ceremony through to a short while at their reception at the nearby Bridgewater Inn.
Crafers Cottages wedding ceremony
The surrounds of the garden behind Crafers cottages is lush with an incredibly green landscape, complete with a small creek that runs through the center, it provided for a magnificent natural backdrop for wedding shots. The wedding ceremony itself was held on what looks to be a purpose built terrace. Complete with grass covering each step down to the garden, it allows for a sort of auditorium setting for all guests to watch a wedding ceremony from a perfect vantage point.
Renee and Paul’s ceremony included a number of personal moments, including a sand ceremony – symbolising the coming together of both Renee and paul’s family which now included a daughter. Also the lighting of a remembrance candle for Paul’s father. It’s these small heartfelt moments of a wedding that I feel are most special.
Glamour shots
We wandered about the garden for a little while making use of the rather overgrown foliage within the garden. I love this kind of setting as the photographs always turn out wonderfully dreamy. It’s all just beautiful.
Bridgewater Inn wedding reception
Renee and Paul opted to hold a small wedding reception for their immediate friends and family at the Bridgewater Inn where a single table was set up alongside a private bar and dancefloor. The area looked to be the old cellars for the Inn, which again provided for a very intimate atmosphere for their small reception party.
I feel very privileged to have been a part of Renee and Pauls beautifully intimate wedding, and I hope they enjoy their photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!
I’m pleased to present the wedding of Jess and Jake which took place in the Port Elliot Memorial Gardens during a very busy weekend during October! I say very busy as SvenStudios managed to cover 3 weddings this weekend, with the wedding of Jess and Jake here photographed by Ross Daly, and editing done by yours truly.
Preparation
Jess and Jake were being prepared at McCracken Country club which boasts a magnificent view overlooking the golf fairway and a lovely intimate reception center. Ross was caught up with preparations on the day so saw himself walking in between rooms, taking photos of both Jess and Jake in turn.
Port Elliot Memorial Gardens wedding ceremony
During World War 1, Port Elliot was a place of recreation for soldiers on leave. The gardens were originally established as a community project for soldiers, and then officially dedicated as a Soldier’s memorial after the planting of the memorial trees lining the park. The trees were planted in a tribute to the local soldier’s contribution and includes a tree planted to fallen New Zealand soldiers. The Park also now includes trees planted in commemoration of Australian soldiers involved in other conflicts as well, with 24 bronze plaques dedicated in May 2012.
Glamour Photos
After the wedding ceremony, Ross, along with Jess and Jake’s videographers led the couple around the Port Elliot Memorial Gardens for some glamour shots. The gardens provide for a wide range of different backdrops, including weaving paths through flowerbeds, huge lining trees and even a beach scene.
McCracken Country Club wedding reception
The McCracken Country Club always puts on a good fare at a wedding. Their function room overlooks the country club’s fairway and is spacious enough to host a decent sized wedding party without feeling too cavernous. I hadn’t been back to McCracken since I was the wedding photographer at a wedding last new year’s eve, so I was a little envious of Ross!
