There are certain weddings that sit in the back of your mind long before the day arrives, and Divya and Rick’s Millbrook Resort Wedding was one of those. Any excuse to head back to New Zealand with a camera is hard to pass up, and Queenstown has a way of drawing you in every single time. Mountains dominate the skyline, the air feels sharper, and the scenery constantly reminds you why couples choose this part of the world for such meaningful celebrations. When Divya and Rick reached out, the thought of photographing their wedding amongst this landscape was instantly exciting.
Millbrook Resort is located just outside Queenstown in Arrowtown, offering a quieter, more refined setting while still being surrounded by iconic alpine views. From a photographer’s perspective, it delivers endlessly. Every corner feels intentional, from the rolling fairways to the streams and stone bridges scattered throughout the estate. It strikes that perfect balance between luxury and nature, which suited Divya and Rick beautifully and set a relaxed, elegant tone for the entire day.
Preparation
Rick and his groomsmen were getting ready onsite at Millbrook Resort, and their accommodation couldn’t have been better placed. The windows looked out over the golf course, with The Remarkables sitting proudly in the distance. Soft morning light filled the room, creating an easy, natural environment to photograph without anything feeling forced or staged. We even had a local duck keep us company as it watched the events unfolding.
The energy in the room was light and playful. Jackets were shrugged on, ties adjusted, and plenty of laughter floated through the space. The boys were quick to tease Rick, especially when a golf club was borrowed from a passing golfer. His swing became the highlight of the morning, resulting in a perfectly sliced ball that almost caused a near miss with our camera gear. The reaction from everyone involved made for genuine, joy-filled images and perfectly captured the relaxed tone Rick wanted for his wedding day.

On the opposite side of the resort, Divya was finishing her preparations. The room felt calm but full of anticipation, with final makeup touches taking place as we arrived. Divya looked radiant, her excitement shining through in quiet smiles and thoughtful glances as everything came together. There was a beautiful balance of nerves and confidence that made photographing her feel completely natural.
One of the most meaningful moments of the morning came when Divya shared a first look with her parents and brothers. The ceremony was held in a secluded garden area behind the resort’s main function hall and restaurant. This space is partially enclosed, creating an intimate feel while still showcasing the surrounding landscape. The lawn overlooks the golf course, with a gentle stream flowing nearby and mountains rising in the background, offering a truly picturesque setting for a wedding ceremony.

With group photos completed and a helicopter flight planned, we found ourselves with a little extra time while waiting. Millbrook Resort is the kind of venue where this is never an issue. Rather than rushing, we explored more of the grounds, making the most of the scenery right at our feet.
A wooden golf buggy bridge became the perfect spot for some relaxed bridal party photos. The textures of timber, water, and greenery worked beautifully together, and the bridal party brought plenty of energy and laughter. These images felt effortless and full of personality, reflecting Divya and Rick’s easygoing nature. One request stood out from Rick early on: he wanted snow in his wedding photos. The time of year made this a challenge, but Queenstown has a habit of rewarding a little optimism. Once the helicopter arrived at the onsite helipad, we took off towards The Remarkables, with the pilot determined to find the right spot.
We landed near Double Cone, where patches of snow still remained. Stepping out into that environment is always a rush. The air is crisp, the views stretch endlessly, and everything feels heightened in the best way. Divya and Rick embraced the moment completely, laughing, taking it all in, and trusting the process. Photographing couples in locations like this is exactly why destination weddings are so special. The resulting images felt bold, adventurous, and deeply connected to the landscape.

From relaxed mornings on the resort grounds to standing high in the mountains with snow underfoot, every part of the day felt true to them. Millbrook offered the perfect backdrop for a celebration that was elegant without feeling formal and joyful without ever being rushed, and capturing it all was an absolute pleasure.
