Adelaide Botanical Gardens Wedding – Kat & Monty

  • KAT & MONTY

    Adelaide Botanical Gardens Wedding

    Together with brial party

Kat and Monty’s Adelaide Botanical Gardens wedding was supposed to take place at the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens, only to have them forced to change venue the night before due to a catastrophic fire danger alert put out in the Mt Lofty ranges. We had even walked about the Mt Lofty Gardens and sorted out everything we were going to do before hand – only to have it change to the city! It all worked out well though, as thankfully there was my favourite spot in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens free for their ceremony, and despite the whole thing being stressful for the bride and groom, the whole day worked out fantastically 🙂

Adelaide Botanical Gardens Wedding Ceremony

I was asked to be Kat and Monty’s wedding photographer for 3 hours on their day, which allowed me to cover their ceremony at the large tree at the northern end of the Adelaide Botanical Gardens, and then around an hour or so walking about the gardens itself for some glamour shots. As the fire danger had been declared, you could probably imagine the sort of weather we had for the day – super sunny and getting up there in temperature – which was pretty lucky considering that the week leading up to their day the weather hadn’t been great.

Kat and Monty’s ceremony took place without a hitch, and included their two boys, symbolising the coming together of their new family unit. It’s always nice to include any children involved, as it recognises them as also making a commitment as a newly formed family. Was lovely 🙂

Adelaide Botanical Gardens Glamour Photos

After the usual family photos, the bridal party and I went for a bit of a lap of the gardens to take some glamour shots, starting out with the magnificent money-shot of the gardens – the elm walkway. Love those trees that bend over the path to create a magical canopy. I knew it was Kat’s goal to make use of this space for the best images possible as it was one of the saving graces she had from her original choice of holding her wedding ceremony at the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens. The sunny day made this task super awesome 😀 Another request was replicating a shot I took at Ciara and Max’s wedding almost a year earlier of a black and white detail shot of a large tree at the southern end of the gardens. It’s always nice to hear what other’s favourite shots are from my weddings 🙂

Thanks so much to Kat and Monty for having me capture their wedding photography! Sorry that your first choice of the Mt Lofty Botanical Park wasnt available for you, but I’m sure you enjoyed your day nonetheless!

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding – Milena & Steven

  • MILENA & STEVEN

    Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding

    Carrying her

Milena and Steven held their wedding under the big tree at the northern end of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens on a rather warm November day. I always love the kind of weddings where a huge mixture of cultures come together to have a huge party sharing all the fun traditions each culture celebrates for weddings. In Milena and Steven’s case it was the mixture of Serbian and New Zealand culture with a dash of a few others in there too. It was a tonne of fun as their wedding photographer! I was asked to cover their entire day and this is their preview.

Preparation

Steven and his entourage were being prepared at a hotel within the Adelaide CBD. The morning was pretty laid back and cruisy with the boys helping each other do up their ties all while using their sense of humour to have a bit of fun at Steven’s expense. Some nerves were showing through, but Steven handled it well.

The girls were being prepared at a house just north of the city. Milena was handing the nerves far better than Steven and there were smiles all round, at least until the little one started being a pain not wanting to put on his suit 😛 But he came around.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Ceremony

There’s a large old gum tree in on the northern edge of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens which in my experience in all  the times I’ve covered a wedding here, seems to be the most popular spot in the gardens. It’s a great spot as there’s a huge grassy area for guests and the sun goes down behind the heads of the bride and groom, so on a sunny day it creates a wonderful halo over their heads. Thankfully as the day was a very warm day, the sky was fairly overcast so it took the edge off the sun.

As part of their ceremony, Milena and Steven opted for a rose ceremony whereby members of their family would add a flower to a vase, symbolising the coming together of the family, it was a nice little gesture as once the family members approached the vase, they had the opportunity to give their personal well wishes formally to the newly weds.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Glamour Photos

I love using the botanic gardens for weddings photos, as it seems as though the entire place was set up for just such an occasion! Unfortunately due to the weather however we had to cut the walking down a bit, but that was ok as we visiting most of the ‘money shot’ locations around the place. We also even got to duplicate a photo Milena and Steven had taken on one of their first dates, which is always nice!

Community Center of Serbia & Montenegro Wedding Reception

Apparently it was a multi-generational tradition for Milena’s family to celebrate their marriage at the Community Center of Serbia and Montenegro, with several of their family members also celebrating their marriage there. It was during the reception where the multicultural nature of the entire day really came alive, complete with serbian circle dancing with live singers, and the New Zealand tradition of singing after speeches and of course, what I was most looking forward to, the Haka!

The entire night was a blast to shoot, as everyone was completely fueled by some Serbian hard liquor and the music never stopping all night!

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding – Ciara & Max

  • CIARA & MAX

    Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding

    Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding

It was a beautifully sunny day for Ciara and Max’s Adelaide Botanic Gardens wedding in April, which was great considering the kind of unpredictable weather we had been having leading up to the big day. With Ciara’s Irish heritage and Max’s Korean heritage, their wedding was a wonderful example of the coming together of two very separate cultures within one of the most multicultural of cities, Adelaide. I was asked to be their wedding photographer for the entire day, and we made good use of the time, covering a lot of ground to get the most diverse portfolio of wedding photography as possible in and around the Adelaide CBD and botanic gardens.

Preparation

I was to cover the preparation of just Ciara and her bridal party, who were getting ready nearby in the Mayfair hotel, as Max was spending the morning running about putting final finishing touches on things before the wedding ceremony. The girls were fairly laid back and had a lovely morning being pampered and getting pretty. Unfortunately the plan was to have a few photos taken in the upstairs Hennessy rooftop bar, only to find out it required a prior booking. This didn’t dampen spirits however while we took a few photos in and around the hotel room instead.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Ceremony

Ciara and Max’s Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Ceremony took place on the far side of the gardens, nearby the ‘Friends Gates’ on Plane Tree drive. The location boasts a beautiful grassy area, bordered by a small stream and a picturesque footbridge in the background of the whole setting. Despite the Adelaide Botanic Gardens being a public place, the venue can easily host around 3-4 weddings on the same day in different locations around the gardens without having too much of a hassle with members of the public wandering in the way of any photos or guests attending a wedding. The area also provides for some top notch vantage points for some incredible wedding photography, so I always enjoy visiting the gardens!

The ceremony was a lovely affair, complete with a traditional giving away of the bride by the father, and a rather beautiful hand binding ceremony that brought together the customs of the celtic together with Korean culture by using a traditionally woven sash brought from Korea specially for the occasion. The sun was out, and provided for a stunning backdrop filtering in through the giant gum tree Ciara and Max were wed under.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Photos

After taking the family photos, Ciara and Max, flanked by their bridal party went for a walk around the gardens for their glamour photos. As I said before, I love covering Adelaide Botanic Gardens Weddings as the area in and around the vicinity of the gardens provides for an incredibly diverse pool of scenery I can call upon as a wedding photographer.

Once we exhausted the areas we wanted to visit within the gardens, we said farewell to the majority of the bridal party to expand out around the Torrens and North Terrace where we made use of Government House, and the buildings in and around Adelaide University. Ciara and Max had one of their first dates near the Torrens so it was important for them to revisit on their wedding day.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Reception

What was absolutely glorious about Ciara and Max’s wedding as opposed to any other wedding I had covered at the Botanic Gardens was that they chose to have their reception at the cafe located at the very center of the entire place which meant that I had the very rare opportunity to make use of the Gardens after dark! The Botanic Gardens Restaurant is a lovely intimate venue that can cater for a smaller wedding guest list. The food was wonderful, and staff more than friendly which all combined for a wonderful evening.

During the night I took Ciara and Max out into the night to make use of the magnificent arch way of trees at night, which is a rare opportunity as member of the public aren’t allowed to enter the gardens at night.
