Their Sunnybrae Estate wedding landed on a sun-soaked day—blue skies, golden light, and the perfect Adelaide warmth that makes everything feel just that little bit more magical. From the very first moment I arrived, it was obvious this wasn’t going to be your typical, run-of-the-mill wedding. There was laughter, music, sporty antics, and a whole lot of love.

Sunnybrae Estate is one of those Adelaide venues that really shines with a late afternoon ceremony. The light there glows in a way that makes everyone look like they’re living inside a romantic movie. Add in two people like Jess and Cam, who have so much personality and presence, and you’ve got the recipe for a standout day. The whole estate was buzzing with excitement, from the getting ready moments right through to the last song on the dancefloor.

Preparation

Cam was all energy and cheekiness when I met up with him at a Glenelg bed and breakfast. It was clear from the start that he was ready to lean into the day and have a blast. As a sports announcer, he was 100% in his element when he and his groomsmen did a mock “stadium walk-in” like a team entering the field. Complete with commentary and dramatic gestures, it was as hilarious as it was totally on-brand.

His family’s cricketing legacy didn’t go unnoticed—subtle nods throughout the morning, some banter between the boys, and those sporty touches made the whole vibe feel so Cam. The love heart sunnies made an early appearance and set the tone for some seriously silly, joyful photos. From tying ties backwards to impromptu backyard warm-up stretches, this crew knew how to keep it light. Honestly, it was hard to put the camera down with all the moments unfolding so naturally.

Meanwhile, Jess was getting ready just a few streets over at her parents’ house—and wow, what a vibe. The place was still decked out with cheeky hens night balloons, and the laughter coming from the girls’ room was absolutely infectious. Everyone was having a ball, and Jess was the glowing, beaming centre of it all. Her dress hung like a piece of art in the corner while glasses of bubbly were being topped up, and tunes floated through the house.

At one point, the girls headed out for a champagne spray that ended up with more giggles than spray—but it was all part of the fun. Jess’s mum was clearly soaking up every moment, and her dad? Well, let’s just say he had his emotional moment coming soon. From the makeup brushes to the final touches on the bouquet, the morning flew by in a joyful whirlwind.

First Look

There’s always something special about a first look with a parent, and Jess’s moment with her dad in their backyard was tender and teary in the best way. He beamed with pride and held her tight like he never wanted to let go. Just as the emotions from that moment settled, we brought Cam in for his first look—and that’s when things really hit home.

We made our way to Crozier Street for the bridal party shoot, and what a dream this group was to photograph. Tucked amongst the weathered red bricks and rusted textures of historic industrial buildings, they were game for absolutely anything. From dramatic dips to completely ridiculous poses, the energy was off the charts—and that’s exactly what made it so brilliant.

The juxtaposition of Jess in her flowing gown with the gritty urban backdrop gave everything such a cinematic feel. This crew weren’t afraid to be a little goofy, and those playful personalities absolutely came through in the shots. The sun was dipping just enough to bathe the estate in dreamy, warm light—honestly, it was perfection. The ceremony space at Sunnybrae had this soft glow filtering through the trees, making everything feel extra romantic and intimate. It really is the kind of setting that does half the work for you—it’s just that stunning.

Jess and Cam’s ceremony was full of light-hearted teasing, private jokes, and nods to their passions. Cam’s cricket obsession and Jess’s musical background were both cheekily referenced, and the vows had everyone either giggling or wiping away a happy tear. Stepping into the reception space was like walking into a scrapbook of Jess and Cam’s love story. The Adelaide Hills absolutely delivered the goods for Hillary and Simon’s Howard Vineyard wedding – with golden sunshine, moody autumn tones, and an energy that felt like something out of a dream. Their day was effortlessly stylish and completely true to them, starting from the moment I arrived at Hillary’s parents’ estate just outside Mount Barker. Nestled amongst vibrant foliage, their home looked like a quaint little castle tucked away in the woods – think classic stonework, turrets, and perfectly manicured gardens glowing in the morning light.

The original plan was to keep everything simple, but standing in that storybook setting, we all couldn’t help but joke that they could have just hosted the whole celebration right there – if only there had been more parking! That said, their choice of Howard Vineyard was a stunner and brought the same elegance and warmth as the estate did earlier in the day. The balance of rustic charm and rolling vineyard views gave the perfect backdrop to an already emotional and joy-filled day.

Preparation

Simon and the boys took over the downstairs of the estate in the morning, turning it into a hive of activity. Ties were tied, cufflinks fumbled, and jokes flew around faster than the champagne corks. It was clear from the get-go that his groomsmen were on a mission – keeping nerves at bay and ensuring Simon’s smile didn’t leave his face. And honestly, it worked. Even with the anticipation building, Simon was cool, calm, and radiating that mix of excitement and love that only comes with knowing the best day of your life is about to unfold.

The soft light coming through the cottage windows gave everything a cinematic quality, from the final touch of his jacket to the deep breath he took before heading outside for the first look. You could tell how much care had gone into every detail – from his boutonniere to the polished leather shoes that would soon carry him into his next chapter.

Meanwhile, upstairs was an entirely different vibe – equally joyful, just with a bit more hairspray. Hillary’s suite was a flurry of lace, laughter, and the delicate scent of her floral bouquet wafting through the air. The bride was radiant even before stepping into her gown, glowing with anticipation and a calmness that made everyone around her feel grounded. Her bridesmaids helped with finishing touches, while her mum fluffed the veil and stole little glances filled with pride.

First Look Photoshoot

Hillary and Simon chose to share a private first look before the ceremony, and it could not have been sweeter. On the pathway leading to the grand front door, with warm autumn leaves crunching underfoot, they saw each other for the first time. That moment had everyone (including us) holding back a little tear. Simon’s jaw literally dropped – and Hillary’s smile could’ve powered the whole Hills region.

After that emotional moment, we made the most of the gardens around the estate. Fiery red maples, and winding paths made for a dreamy pre-ceremony shoot. They were so relaxed in each other’s arms, which made it easy to capture their connection. Every kiss, every glance – it all just worked with the earthy tones and golden afternoon glow. These two belong in a rom-com.

Howard Vineyard Wedding Ceremony

Their Howard Vineyard wedding ceremony took place beneath the enormous tree out the front of the main reception hall – a natural canopy that filtered the sunlight perfectly. With the sun dipping low behind the hills, a soft lens flare streamed through the branches, dancing behind Hillary as she stood opposite Simon. The light framed her like a halo.

The ceremony began in the most fun way – with a kiss! They didn’t waste time, wanting guests to snap those early moments before the more heartfelt part of the ceremony unfolded. Their celebrant wove stories of their life together, from late-night video games in Korea to settling back into Adelaide with creativity and care at the centre of their relationship. Everyone was completely swept up in the laughter, the emotion, and the gentle wind rustling the vineyard leaves behind them.

Since we had taken plenty of portraits earlier in the day at the estate, our glamour session at Howard Vineyard was short but sweet. The late golden hour was still lingering as we ventured into the vineyard rows for some relaxed shots with the bridal party. The contrast of the Australia bush against Hillary’s crisp white dress and the soft navy tones of Simon’s suit made every frame pop.

The bridal party shared a few cheeky toasts in the vines, arms linked and heels kicking up dirt with every laugh. The mood was easygoing and genuine – no stiff poses, just real fun and real love. The Howard Vineyard wedding reception space was absolutely glowing. Fairy lights hung like stars from the ceiling, bouncing off polished wine glasses and the delicate table settings that nodded to Hillary’s creative flair. Every corner felt curated but never too polished – just the right mix of whimsy and warmth. Hillary’s touches were everywhere, from personalised menus to a photo wall filled with travel memories and goofy snapshots.

The band kicked off with upbeat favourites that had guests dancing from the first course. It was clear the dancefloor was going to get a workout – and it did. Between the hilarious speeches and the heartfelt first dance, the room buzzed with energy. There’s something truly special about being invited back to photograph a growing family. Cristina had reached out to organise another session—this time not just with the extended family, but with a sweet new addition in tow. We’d previously met up for photos at Himeji Gardens, but this time she was hoping for something a little closer to her parents’ place fin Parkside, just south of the Adelaide city center. The idea was to make it simple and easy for everyone. Ironically, they still ended up at Himeji Gardens first out of habit! A quick redirection and we were all reunited at a gorgeous little Parkside spot, ready for some relaxed and fun family photos.

The newest star of the shoot? Their adorable baby boy—snuggled up in the coziest outfit, complete with a tiny beanie that was almost too cute to handle. Even though the breeze had a bit of a bite, he was toasty and content, surrounded by doting parents and grandparents. Family shoots like these are always so heartwarming, especially when there’s a new baby involved. There’s a kind of joy and quiet excitement that bubbles just under the surface—you can feel how much this little bundle means to everyone.

The autumn leaves were just starting to carpet the grass, so we made the most of the golden tones. After scouting a lovely open area in Parkside, we settled in for the shoot. It’s amazing how just a few trees in the right light can feel like you’re in the middle of a magical woodland scene. The little guy wasn’t quite old enough to sit on his own yet, but with a bit of clever camera trickery (and some Photoshop wizardry later on), I made it look like he was having his own mini moment perched among the leaves.

Group photos are always a must in sessions like this—every combo imaginable! Grandparents with the baby, parents with the baby, siblings, couples, whole family together—each one capturing a slightly different connection. I like to keep the pace easy and natural, giving everyone space to be themselves. Even if not everyone loves the camera, there’s always a way to coax out the real smiles. And Cristina’s family? Just lovely. Everyone was patient, kind, and ready to go with the flow.

We snapped a few quick shots with the grandparents before they wisely decided to head home—it was getting a bit chilly, and they’d braved enough of the fresh air to last a week. They were absolute troopers though, and you could tell how much they loved being part of these memories. After that, we had the whole park to ourselves. It was that perfect time of afternoon when the light softens and glows, and the world feels calm. As the session wound down, there was one last family member to include: the dog! I always love when families bring their pets along—it just adds another layer of personality to the shoot. This pup was more than happy to make a cameo. Tail wagging, curious sniffs, and a few enthusiastic zoomies later, we got a handful of sweet shots of the whole crew together.
