Later in the evening, as the sun dipped lower, we slipped out again for a second round of photos. This is where the Barossa Valley really comes into its own. For those unfamiliar, it’s a fast-paced game where guests race to get photos with the couple before the end of a song. It’s chaotic in the best way. For couple portraits, we headed briefly off site to a nearby abandoned cottage tucked amongst a vineyard. The contrast between the rustic textures and Lena and Kurtis’ polished look worked beautifully. They didn’t want an endless glamour session, preferring to spend more time with their guests, which made the portraits feel natural and unforced. A handful of thoughtfully composed images was all that was needed before heading back to the Barns of Freeling to continue the celebrations.

Nestled in the old brick courtyard under the shade of the vines growing along it’s sides, the ceremony offered just enough reprieve from the sun to keep everyone upright—though just barely. Even the livestream and video gear needed constant cooling to keep functioning in the sweltering heat. And yet, not a single smile wavered.

Just before Meg was set to walk down the aisle, a little hiccup—her bouquet had been left behind. St Hugo Wines Wedding Reception

The reception space at St Hugo Wines was a welcome escape from the heat, with chilled drinks flowing freely and guests sinking into the relaxed rhythm of the evening. The styling was next-level, particularly for the Harry Potter fans in the room. From floating candles to magical nods woven throughout the decor, the theme was tastefully layered and full of delightful surprises.

The biggest surprise came at the very end of the night—each guest’s bonbonniere was a sealed wand box they were instructed not to open until the final send-off. As Meg and Tim made their exit, guests lined the pathway, wands aloft like sparklers, creating a whimsical tunnel of raised arms and laughter. It was cinematic and charming—a little touch of Hogwarts magic to cap off a day already brimming with enchantment.

Heartfelt speeches brought tears and belly laughs, especially once the sound system decided to cooperate. And when the dance floor kicked off, it was packed in seconds. From the first spin to the final beat, it was a joyful, sweaty blur of dancing, hugs, and clinking glasses.

Aimee’s Preparation

The morning began at the Barossa Novotel, where Aimee got ready alongside her bridesmaids, her little flower girl, and her mum. Their room, overlooking the inviting blue pool, was filled with excitement and laughter. Given the sweltering heat of the day, that pool looked more and more tempting as the preparations went on! The space was cozy, bustling with activity, and filled with the scent of fresh florals and the hum of last-minute touches.

A beautifully sentimental moment unfolded when Aimee’s dad entered the room for the first look. The emotion on his face spoke volumes—a mixture of pride, love, and a touch of nostalgia. The courtyard at Seppeltsfield was adorned with white umbrellas, offering guests a welcome reprieve from the sun. The grand doors at one end of the courtyard served as a striking ceremony backdrop, a natural frame for the vows that were about to be exchanged, and the historic stone walls, dappled with ivy, added a rustic elegance that complemented the warm tones of the afternoon light.

Despite the soaring temperatures—so hot my camera began overheating at one point—the ceremony was filled with warmth of a different kind: the kind that comes from heartfelt vows, beaming smiles, and the overwhelming support of family and friends. Short and sweet, it was the perfect length, allowing guests to retreat to the shade while Aimee and Darren basked in the joy of their first moments as husband and wife.

Glamour Photos

After the ceremony, we took full advantage of Seppeltsfield’s stunning grounds for their glamour photos. The courtyard, wrapped in a thick blanket of ivy, provided a naturally textured backdrop that looked straight out of a fairytale. Aimee and Darren, still buzzing from their vows, were naturals in front of the camera, sharing soft glances and playful moments that made capturing their love a dream.

The sun streamed through the tree-lined walkway leading to their reception space, creating a golden glow that added a cinematic quality to their portraits. Strolling beneath the trees, hand in hand, they looked every bit like a couple straight from a romance novel. We later stepped inside a charming little room for some intimate, softly lit portraits before they rejoined their guests for cocktails and mingling on the lawn.

Seppeltsfield Wines Wedding Reception

The reception took place in one of Seppeltsfield’s impressive barrel rooms, a grand space lined with towering wine barrels. Thankfully, large industrial fans kept the room (large shed) comfortable, allowing the celebration to unfold in a relaxed and lively atmosphere. The decor embraced the winery’s natural charm, with rustic wooden tables, glowing fairy lights, and an earthy colour palette that echoed the surrounding vineyards.

The speeches were a highlight of the night, each one filled with heartfelt anecdotes, humour, and well-wishes. A standout moment was one speech delivered entirely in the style of a horse racing announcer, a hilarious nod to the couple’s passion for the sport. The couple also played the ever-entertaining shoe game, providing plenty of laughs as they revealed their perspectives on married life’s little quirks.

As the evening progressed, we stole away for some sunset portraits amongst the vines. The golden light draped them in the most romantic glow, highlighting the quiet joy of the moment. With the Barossa hills stretching into the distance, it was the perfect way to capture the magic of their day.
