Kuitpo Hall Wedding – Courtney & Jarrod

There are weddings that follow tradition, and then there are weddings that completely rewrite the rulebook. Courtney and Jarrod’s Kuitpo Hall Wedding was proudly, unapologetically different from beginning to end. Wrapped in black, decorated with skulls, rich gothic styling and countless personal touches, every decision reflected exactly who they are as a couple. It was refreshing to photograph a wedding that wasn’t trying to fit anyone else’s expectations.

June delivered one of those classic Adelaide winter days that makes you appreciate every patch of sunshine. The air was crisp enough to keep everyone moving quickly, yet the atmosphere was incredibly warm thanks to the personalities surrounding these two. From a horse-drawn arrival to tattooed wedding rings, vintage Super 8 film and a four-legged ring bearer stealing hearts, this was a celebration that embraced individuality in every possible way.

As a wedding photographer, days like this are incredibly rewarding. Rather than chasing trends, Courtney and Jarrod built an experience around the things they genuinely love. Every location, every decoration and every surprise became another opportunity to tell their story in an authentic way. That’s exactly what makes a Kuitpo Hall Wedding so enjoyable to photograph.

Jarrod’s Preparation

The morning began in Craigburn at a borrowed family home where Jarrod and his entourage were getting ready. Before ties were straightened or jackets buttoned, there was one very important member of the wedding party demanding attention. Their energetic fur baby, proudly taking on ring bearer duties, was determined to be involved in every photograph. Thankfully, the camera loved the excitement just as much as everyone else did.

Capturing pets on wedding mornings always adds a wonderfully unpredictable element. One moment you’re trying to compose the perfect portrait, the next you’re laughing as a very enthusiastic dog races around the room wanting to greet absolutely everybody. Those little moments often become some of the most memorable photographs from the day.

Once things settled slightly, the boys began slipping into their elegant tails. The formal attire suited the gothic styling perfectly. Looking around the room, it almost felt as though a top hat was the only thing missing from completing the Victorian-inspired look. Jarrod, however, had already solved that problem in his own way with a striking cane that instantly elevated his outfit.

His calm confidence throughout the morning made photographing him effortless. There wasn’t any sense of rushing or unnecessary nerves. Instead, there was excitement about seeing everything come together. Every detail, from the dark styling to the carefully chosen accessories, hinted at the unique celebration waiting to unfold later in the day.

Courtney’s Preparation

Meanwhile, Courtney and her bridal party were settling into the beautiful onsite accommodation at Chapel Hill Winery. The spacious two-storey home created a cosy environment despite the chilly weather outside, with natural light spilling beautifully through the windows and filling each room with a soft winter glow.

The excitement built steadily as hair and makeup reached their final touches. Black dresses for bridesmaids, gothic accessories and carefully selected details created something wonderfully different from the traditional wedding morning aesthetic. Every room offered another interesting corner to photograph, making the preparation coverage feel creative from start to finish.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. Courtney stepped into an incredible black wedding dress that suited both her personality and the overall theme perfectly. It was bold, elegant and completely unforgettable. Rather than trying to soften the gothic styling, we embraced it entirely.

One of my favourite locations inside the house was the bay window in the kitchen. The dramatic natural light perfectly complemented Courtney’s black veil, allowing us to create portraits filled with contrast and mood. We also incorporated the striking black parasol carried by the bridal party instead of traditional bouquets. It became a beautiful visual element that tied the entire aesthetic together while creating images unlike anything else I’ve photographed recently.

Gothic Themed Kuitpo Hall Wedding Ceremony

Guests gathered on the lawns of Kuitpo Hall, wrapped in coats and blankets while waiting for the ceremony to begin. The winter air certainly reminded everyone that June in the Adelaide Hills doesn’t hold back, yet nobody seemed to mind. The anticipation surrounding Courtney’s arrival kept everyone smiling despite the cold.

Adding another unforgettable chapter to the day, Courtney arrived in a beautiful horse and carriage. Watching it roll across the grounds instantly transported everyone into another era. It suited the gothic styling perfectly while adding an elegant theatrical touch to the ceremony.

Jarrod had been given one important instruction before the ceremony began: don’t look. As the carriage approached and Courtney prepared to walk down the aisle, he faithfully kept his eyes turned away until the very last moment. The smile that spread across his face when he finally saw her said absolutely everything.

Their ceremony blended heartfelt storytelling with plenty of inside jokes, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter. Rather than feeling overly formal, it felt incredibly personal. Friends and family were laughing one minute and becoming emotional the next.

Of course, the furry ring bearer wasn’t about to let anyone else take all the attention. Every appearance earned smiles from guests, making this lovable pup one of the undeniable stars of the ceremony.

After officially becoming husband and wife, we gathered everyone together for a drone photograph before heading inside Kuitpo Hall to complete the signing of the marriage paperwork. Given the freezing temperatures, we kept family photographs efficient without sacrificing variety, ensuring everyone could warm up again as quickly as possible.

Glamour Photos

With winter refusing to ease, we moved quickly through bridal party photographs before heading across the road into the beautiful surroundings of Kuitpo Forest. This location remains one of my favourite places near Adelaide for wedding photography, particularly during winter when the towering pines create such a dramatic atmosphere.

The horse and carriage joined us once again, becoming a beautiful feature throughout the portrait session. Its timeless appearance paired perfectly with Courtney’s black dress and flowing veil, creating images that felt almost cinematic against the towering forest backdrop.

The weather continued keeping us on our toes. Throughout the afternoon we found ourselves chasing every tiny break in the cloud cover, hoping for just enough sunlight to filter through the trees. Eventually nature rewarded us with exactly what we needed.

Golden rays began spilling softly between the pines, creating pockets of beautiful backlighting that complemented the darker styling surprisingly well. Rather than overpowering the gothic aesthetic, the warm light added just enough contrast to make the black dress, veil and carriage stand out even more dramatically. Those fleeting moments became some of my favourite photographs from the entire Kuitpo Hall Wedding.

The First Dance

The reception held one surprise that nobody saw coming. Courtney and Jarrod had secretly spent considerable time preparing a fully choreographed first dance, choosing to reveal it only once everyone had gathered inside the hall. The anticipation among guests was enormous once the announcement was made.

Even more exciting for us as photographers and videographers was their request to capture the performance on vintage Super 8 film. Shooting genuine Super 8 during receptions always presents unique challenges because of the limited available light, especially inside darker venues. Fortunately, we managed to make it work, preserving their dance with all the nostalgic charm that only real film can produce.

Just before the music was due to begin, another memorable moment unfolded. Wanting to add even more atmosphere, the couple arranged for a smoke machine to fill the dance floor. Unfortunately, it worked a little too well. Within moments the hall disappeared into a sea of smoke before promptly triggering the smoke alarms.

After a short delay, plenty of laughter and a little fresh air, everything settled down and the dance finally went ahead. If anything, the unexpected interruption simply became another funny memory everyone will talk about for years to come.

Kuitpo Hall Wedding Reception

Once the formalities resumed, the reception became a relaxed celebration filled with laughter, heartfelt speeches and plenty of good food. Guests embraced the warm atmosphere inside while escaping the freezing conditions outdoors. The gothic styling carried beautifully into the reception space, with black décor and carefully chosen details reinforcing the theme from beginning to end.

Then came perhaps the most unique experience I have ever witnessed at a wedding.

Courtney and Jarrod had invited a tattoo artist to the reception, not simply as entertainment, but to tattoo wedding rings directly onto their fingers. I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings throughout Adelaide and beyond, yet this was an absolute first. Watching family and friends gather around as the rings were permanently inked made for an unforgettable moment that perfectly reflected the couple’s personalities.

The remainder of the evening unfolded with emotional speeches, plenty of laughter, cake cutting and guests making the most of every opportunity to celebrate while staying warm. There was a genuine sense that everyone present understood this wasn’t simply another wedding. It was a celebration built entirely around two people who weren’t afraid to be themselves.

Looking back, Courtney and Jarrod’s Kuitpo Hall Wedding stands out as one of the most distinctive weddings I’ve had the privilege of photographing. Every decision reflected authenticity rather than expectation. The gothic styling, horse and carriage, choreographed dance, vintage Super 8 film, tattooed rings and enthusiastic four-legged ring bearer all came together to create something truly unforgettable.

Wedding at Kuitpo Hall – Sophia & Sam

The golden sunlight filtered through gum trees as I arrived for Sophia and Sam’s gorgeous wedding at Kuitpo Hall. The sky was brilliantly clear, and the entire day unfolded with the kind of charm you secretly hope for at every celebration. With the historic hall tucked among the forested trails that the area is known for, this particular wedding had a storybook feel from the very start.

Sophia and Sam’s day was all about community, faith, and understated elegance. Their friends and family were an absolute delight – everyone had this warm, welcoming energy that made documenting each moment such a joy. From belly laughs during prep to heartfelt moments during the ceremony, this day had it all. I always love working at Kuitpo Hall, and this one reminded me why – it’s not just about the stunning venue but the people who fill it with love.

Preparation

Sam and his groomsmen were getting ready at a cosy bed and breakfast in Macclesfield. The morning light danced through the trees, adding this natural warmth to the setting – ideal for a bit of creative fun with the camera. Sam’s pride and joy – his car – was proudly on display, and it didn’t take long before everyone was admiring it like it was a celebrity guest.

The vibe was super relaxed but playful. The boys were up for anything, which meant we got some brilliant, cheeky shots. Whether it was jumping mid-air, mimicking movie posters, or pulling faces at the lens, nothing was off-limits. That kind of energy is the dream for a photographer – it lets the genuine connection between mates shine. Plus, the location gave us that mix of rustic charm and open greenery that worked so well in the lead-up to the ceremony.

Sophia was surrounded by love and laughter down in Victor Harbor, where she and her bridal party got ready in a charming bed and breakfast. The place was buzzing with excitement as everyone helped one another get dressed, touched up makeup, and shared that delicious mix of nerves and joy. There’s something so special about those few hours before a wedding – they feel suspended in time.

One of my favourite moments was when we popped a bottle of champagne out the back. Bubbles flew, dresses swirled, and giggles echoed off the hedges. Their pup even joined in for a few photos – a true scene-stealer with a wagging tail and head tilt that melted everyone’s heart. The open paddock next door gave us room for group shots with a stunning backdrop, while the hedge-lined garden provided an elegant setting for those quieter bridal portraits.

Wedding at Kuitpo Hall

As guests gathered on the grassy clearing beside Kuitpo Hall, everything felt calm and serene. The hall itself – with its weathered charm and history – added a lovely contrast to the lush greens all around. I’d photographed weddings here before, but this ceremony layout, with chairs facing the open field to the right of the building, felt fresh and inviting.

Sophia made her entrance from the right side of the hall – a bit of a surprise! Both myself and the videographer had assumed she’d come through the side door, so we had a little dash to reposition. Totally worth it though – her walk down the aisle was radiant. Their ceremony was faith-filled and moving. They made heartfelt vows promising to walk in their faith together, and there was this gorgeous stillness as they stood hand-in-hand, bathed in afternoon light, surrounded by beaming faces.

Glamour Photos in Kuitpo Forest

Once the confetti had settled and the hugs were done, we headed to one of my absolute favourite spots in all of South Australia – the Woodcutter’s Cottage area in Kuitpo Forest. This place holds a special place in my heart. In fact, I loved it so much I chose kuitpo for my own wedding photos – albeit a short drive away at Burbrook Forest. The soaring pines, dappled light, and fresh forest air make it magical no matter the season.

We took a few relaxed portraits in front of the rustic log cabin before wandering into the forest. As the sun dipped lower, golden rays poured through the trees, wrapping Sophia and Sam in the most flattering, dreamy light. It was romantic without feeling staged – just two people in love, surrounded by nature and their closest friends. The bridal party kept things lively, cracking jokes and throwing in the odd goofy pose to keep spirits high. Every frame captured here felt timeless.

The reception took place in the large tin shed at the back of the hall, transformed into a charming, rustic banquet space. Long tables filled the room, adorned with thoughtful details and flickering candles. It was a sit-down dinner affair – the first time I’d covered one like this at Kuitpo Hall, and it was a refreshing change of pace.

The evening was woven together with faith, heartfelt speeches, and genuine connection. There was no first dance or bouquet toss – instead, the focus was on conversation, laughter, and togetherness. It felt almost like a big family dinner, and the love in the room was unmistakable. Guests shared stories, offered prayers, and celebrated Sophia and Sam’s new beginning in their own authentic way. I quietly captured toasts, table banter, and soft moments between glances – the kind of memories that mean the most years from now.

Sophia and Sam’s wedding was an effortless blend of tradition, nature, and heartfelt celebration. Every detail felt true to who they are – grounded, joyful, and faith-focused. Photographing their day at Kuitpo Hall, wandering through pine forests, and catching glimpses of love in the tiniest gestures made this one truly special.

Burbrook Wedding – Maddy & Jake

Maddy and Jake’s Burbrook wedding was everything a photographer could dream of – a joyful, love-filled day set against one of South Australia’s most picturesque backdrops, Burbrook Forest. As a photographer, I’ve always been excited to shoot at this venue, not just because it’s one of the most beautiful natural settings in Adelaide, but also because it holds a special place in my heart – it’s where my wife and I got married! Every time I return to Burbrook, I’m reminded of why it’s such a magical place for a wedding.

This charming couple brought their own unique flavour to the day, blending laid-back charm with heartfelt moments. With half a dozen kids running around, their infectious energy only added to the fun, making the day as lively as it was romantic. Nothing could phase Maddy and Jake, their smiles as wide as the Australian sky. Their relaxed, joyful vibe echoed through every part of the day, from the intimate preparation moments to the first look, and all the way to the chilly evening at Kuitpo Hall. It was a day where love and laughter ruled, and I feel so lucky to have captured it all!

Preparation

Maddy and Jake began their big day at a nearby bed and breakfast, a cozy hideaway that felt like the perfect start to what was to come. The boys, including Jake, got ready in a charming little granny flat. It was a space brimming with laughter, as the guys – and gal – enjoyed each other’s company and some good-natured teasing while getting dressed. They even had a laser-cut mechanical ring box, adding a quirky touch to the morning – something that reflected Jake’s fun and light-hearted personality. The anticipation of the day ahead was palpable, but everything was calm and easygoing, with plenty of smiles all around.

Meanwhile, in the main house, Maddy and her bridal party were busy preparing in a space filled with soft light and an air of excitement. There’s something about the quiet buzz in the air when the bride is getting ready that always makes for beautiful moments to capture. Maddy’s dress hung elegantly, waiting for the moment it would transform her into a stunning bride. Her bridesmaids – and bridesman – helped her into it, and the smiles, happy tears, and heartfelt hugs made this time extra special.

The love and support surrounding Maddy were evident, and it was a joy to capture these emotional, pre-ceremony moments.

First Look Photoshoot

Maddy and Jake opted for a “first look” before the ceremony, and wow, was it beautiful. They met on a hilltop that overlooked the scenic beauty surrounding the bed and breakfast. The wind was brisk, but it didn’t matter. When Jake turned to see Maddy for the first time, their faces lit up with pure joy. That moment when two people see each other for the first time, fully dressed for their wedding day, is electric, and Maddy and Jake’s first look was no exception. The love in their eyes was undeniable, and it felt like the world stood still for just a moment.

After that sweet first look, we took advantage of the gorgeous surroundings with a mini photoshoot. The orchard nearby was in full bloom, and we even had a few local giant kangaroos hopping around in the background – quintessentially Australian, right? Despite the chill in the air, the two of them were so wrapped up in the moment, you’d never know it. Their smiles and laughter made the session a joy to shoot, and those candid shots of them together in the orchard were some of my favorites from the day.

Burbrook Wedding Ceremony

Burbrook Forest is famous for its breathtaking “Wedding Tree,” and Maddy and Jake couldn’t have picked a more iconic spot for their ceremony. The towering tree stands proud, its branches reaching out like a protective canopy over the couple and their guests. The soft sunlight filtering through the leaves created a magical atmosphere, making the ceremony feel almost otherworldly. Surrounded by nature, with the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze, it was the perfect backdrop for Maddy and Jake’s heartfelt vows.

Their ceremony was filled with personal touches, including a “tying the knot” tradition that added a meaningful layer to the day. All the while, the children in attendance were having the time of their lives, running around and playing in the background, adding a touch of playful innocence to the proceedings. There’s something so special about kids being part of the ceremony, bringing extra joy and laughter to the moment. By the time Maddy and Jake exchanged their vows and sealed their marriage with a kiss, the entire crowd was beaming.

After the ceremony, it was time to explore the stunning beauty of Burbrook Forest for the glamour photos. I always love this part of the day, when the newlyweds can take a moment to breathe and simply enjoy each other’s company, away from the hustle and bustle. Maddy and Jake were naturals in front of the camera, their connection shining through in every shot. Burbrook Forest’s tall, majestic trees provided the most breathtaking backdrop – a forest that seems tailor-made for romantic photos.

We wandered through to some of my favorite spots in the forest, capturing the couple as they laughed, embraced, and soaked in the magic of their wedding day. The light was perfect, and the forest was calm and quiet, allowing us to focus entirely on Maddy and Jake’s love story. Every photo we captured in the forest had a magical, ethereal quality to it – the kind of timeless beauty that will take them right back to this special day every time they look at them.

As the day drew to a close, the celebration moved to Kuitpo Hall for the reception. Originally set up for an outdoor event, the unpredictable Adelaide weather decided otherwise. But that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits! Guests cozied up inside the hall, which was decorated with rustic charm, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere. The cold might have kept everyone indoors, but it also brought everyone closer together, creating a cozy, communal vibe that felt perfect for the evening.

One of the highlights of the reception was when Maddy and Jake serenaded each other with a beautiful duet – a moment that left everyone teary-eyed. Their voices blended beautifully, and you could see the love and admiration they had for each other as they sang. It was such a personal, heartfelt moment, and it felt like the perfect way to kick off the evening’s festivities. Later, the couple’s first dance got everyone out of their seats and onto the dance floor, where the fun really began. The warmth of the music and dancing was the perfect antidote to the chilly evening, and the dance floor was packed with joyful energy as the night went on.

Maddy and Jake’s Burbrook wedding was truly a day to remember. From the stunning natural beauty of the forest to the warmth of their reception at Kuitpo Hall, it was a celebration filled with love, laughter, and so many beautiful moments.

Burbrook Forest Wedding – Brooke & Lachlan

Since Brooke and Lachlan got in contact with me to cover their wedding at Burbrook Forest, I had been looking forward to it as it’s in my opinion one of the best wedding venues in all of South Australia! I may also be biased as it was the venue for my own wedding, but anyway…

The weather was perfect, the trees were beautiful, and the day just turned out to be so awesome that I included a record number of photos on their USB, more than I have ever included on a USB 😛

Preparation

The day started for me at Brooke and Lachlan’s house in which they were in the middle of selling, so the whole place was set up like some sort of display home – perfectly clean and prepared to look awesome. This made my job that much easier! All of Lachlan’s groomsmen were being prepared along side his parents which made for a wonderfully heartfelt time!

Similarly Brooke was being prepared alongside all of her bridesmaids, her parents and even a gaggle of kids who made for some cute distraction to any wedding nerves that people may have been feeling. Brooke had found a delightful bed and breakfast just up the road from Kuitpo hall, and Burbrook forest which was super convenient, and also stunningly beautiful as a backdrop for their preparation photos!

 

Burbrook Forest Wedding Ceremony

Brooke and Lachlan’s wedding day took place on a very hot and sunny day in which the nearby Kuitpo forest had been closed due to fire danger. Luckily, the privately owned Burbrook forest had no such restrictions so their wedding ceremony could take place with no interruptions. The tall trees surrounding the lovely gnarly ‘wedding tree’ (as it’s affectionately known) supplied some nice shade for the entire wedding congregation, and actually made the area quite comfortable.

The Burbrook forest wedding tree would not look out of place in any Harry Potter film, and it mades for an imposing setting for a wedding ceremony where the bride and groom would stand under it, with guests looking up at them with the tree overlooking the whole clearing. It’s quite a sight.

Burbrook Forest Glamour Photos

The main appeal for holding a wedding at Burbrook forest is using the awesome rows of pine trees with the sunlight shining through to create a stunning effect in photos. it’s a big reason why my wife and I also chose to be married here! After the family photos, we made sure to make use of these trees and sweeping views around the forest. We also made some time later in the day, during the reception to head back for the sun setting through the trees.

Unfortunately some clouds had appeared, hiding the sunset proper, but I’m pretty good with photoshop so… 🙂 It’s also a bit of a fun story to know that behind Brooke and Lachlan in some of the photos is Brooke’s mother crouching down spraying some ‘atmosphere in a can’ to frame them in a bit of a neat haze for the photos.

Kuitpo Hall Wedding Reception

Kuitpo Hall, which is conveniently just down the road from Burbrook forest is a beautifully rustic spot to hold a wedding reception at. This is particularly true on a warm night, like what Brooke and Lachlan enjoyed, where guests can enjoy the large grassy field outside the hall itself. Brooke and Lachlan had the entire area lit with outside lighting and well stocked with barrels, and outside furniture so everyone was comfortable.

I’d like to thank Brooke and Lachlan for having my wife and I as a part of their wedding day! I had a blast as their wedding photographer at their Burbrook forest wedding and I hope they enjoy their photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Kuitpo Hall Wedding – Leah & Jarron

Kuitpo Hall Wedding – Leah & Jarron

I was super excited to head out to the lovely Kuitpo Hall for Leah and Jarron’s wedding in mid February as I had heard stories about how awesome the venue was through my years of being a wedding photographer, but I had never actually covered a wedding there until now. It’s a beautifully little rustic venue, complete with large grassy areas to entertain larger crowds, while also having some of the best photo opportunities just across the road in Kuitpo forest – and boy did we get a great light show for Leah and Jarron’s photos!

 

Before the ceremony

While waiting for Leah to arrive, I was floating about taking detail shots of Leah and Jarron’s set up while also mingling and taking care to be as much of a ninja as possible shooting people enjoying the finger platters and drinks that were already available for everyone. Jarron seemed to keep busy running about greeting everyone while sorting out the final details before Leah arrived.

Leah arrived in a long black limo a little late, but that’s pretty much expected in this day in age 🙂 Before walking around the back of the Hall, Leah stopped to have a chat with her family and also made sure everyone was in position for her entrance.

Leah and Jarron chose to hold their ceremony in front of the rather eclectic corrugated iron fence that lines the back of the boundary of the Kuitpo Hall’s grounds, meaning there was only just enough room for some chairs and some standing room inbetween the back of the hall and the fence for their congregation. Thankfully their congregation wasn’t on the larger side so it was ample room for all 🙂

Kuitpo Forest Glamour Photos

I absolutely love heading to Kuipto forest for photos, especially during the time of day we were able to head just up the road to the woodcutter’s cabin. The sun was in the perfect spot to create some beautifully orange lens flares while cascading through the tall pine trees making a scene I was totally nerding out about all the while I was shooting Leah and Jarron’s photos and video. I had a great time 😀

As I was only asked to be Leah and Jarron’s wedding photographer for 3 hours, I wasn’t with them for much longer after getting back from the Woodcutter’s Cottage, but I did manage to get a few more shots of everyone having a wonderful time in the dying light.
