Kylie and Casey’s wedding at The Manor in Basket Range was an absolute dream come true! The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and love was in the air. As an Adelaide Hills wedding photographer, I couldn’t have asked for a more picturesque setting to capture such a special day. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the excitement buzzing in the air.

Casey’s Preparation

I kicked off the day by setting up the photo booth, ensuring that every detail was perfect for Kylie and Casey’s guests to enjoy later on. Then, it was off to Casey’s room for some pre-wedding shots. As he put the finishing touches on his attire, I took advantage of the stunning stained glass windows that adorned the walls. The natural light streaming in created the most beautiful backdrop, adding an extra touch of magic to the moment. After snapping a few shots with the groomsmen outside on the grassy area, we were ready to capture Casey’s final moments as a bachelor.

The Manor in Basket Range Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony itself was a beautiful affair at the Manor in Basket Range’s small chapel, despite a minor hiccup with the music overheating.

Kylie looked absolutely radiant as she made her way down the garden path towards Casey, who was positively beaming with joy. Sure, the dappled shadows caused by the sun were a bit tricky to navigate, but as a seasoned wedding photographer, I know how to roll with the punches. After all, a few shadows can’t dim the brightness of true love shining through. Once the vows were exchanged and the rings were placed, it was time to celebrate!

The Manor in Basket Range Wedding Reception

The reception was a delightful blend of elegance and fun, with an outdoor portion directly after the group photos that truly stole the show. As the evening unfolded, guests were treated to a feast for the senses, with delicious food, flowing drinks, and the gentle strumming of Casey’s brother on the guitar filling the air.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, it was time to transition into the reception. The atmosphere was electric as guests mingled, laughed, and danced the night away. And of course, no wedding reception at the Manor would be complete without a few late-night shots in front of the majestic castle keep. Pt Willunga Engagement Shoot – Abbie & Lachie

Adelaide’s beaches are a photographer’s paradise, especially when you have a couple as gorgeous as Abbie and Lachie. Their Pt Willunga engagement shoot was the epitome of romance and natural beauty, making my job as their engagement photographer an absolute joy. Just one day after Lachie proposed to Abbie, we set off for this stunning location, ready to capture their love in the soft glow of the setting sun.

Pt Willunga, with its dramatic cliffs and serene beach, provided the perfect backdrop for Abbie and Lachie’s shoot. Imagine the golden sunlight spilling over the horizon, casting a warm, amber hue on everything it touched. There’s something magical about watching a couple in love, playfully running through the water, their laughter mingling with the sound of the waves. The iconic sticks of the old Pt Willunga jetty, now weathered and standing tall against the backdrop of the ocean, created an almost surreal setting. We used these sticks, along with the stunning cliff faces and the natural rock podiums, to craft some truly unique shots. As the sun dipped lower, the beach transformed, bathing everything in a warm, golden light – perfect for capturing the essence of Abbie and Lachie’s love story.

Trees Inbetween

On our way to Blanche Point, a breathtaking scene caught my eye – the sunlight filtering through the trees, creating a canvas of light and shadow. It was an impromptu stop, but sometimes the most unplanned moments turn out to be the most memorable ones. We stepped out, and under the dappled light of the trees, we captured some extraordinary photos. The light played hide and seek with the leaves, creating a stunning pattern on Abbie and Lachie, adding a whimsical touch to the shoot.

This part of Adelaide, with its lush greenery and natural landscapes, never fails to amaze me. It’s these little pockets of beauty, scattered all around, that make Adelaide such a fantastic place for photography. Blanche Point

Blanche Point, a popular spot for photographers and couples alike, was our next destination. As a wedding photographer used to the hustle and bustle of Saturdays, I wasn’t surprised to find other couples there, even on a Wednesday. However, this didn’t deter us; we found our own little slice of paradise along the cliff tops. The rugged coastline, with its panoramic views, was a breathtaking backdrop for Abbie and Lachie’s engagement photos.

We recreated the proposal scene on one of the cliff tops, capturing the emotion and excitement of their engagement. Their playful and loving interaction made every shot a masterpiece. And then, it was time for the ‘money shot’ – right on the edge of the cliff, with the vast ocean stretching out behind them. It was a moment of pure magic, with the crashing waves below and the endless sky above, encapsulating the boundless nature of their love.

The decision to choose Pt Noarlunga beach was thoughtful, considering the accessibility for grandma and grandpa. The proximity to the boat ramp made it easier for them to be close to the water, an aspect that added a serene backdrop to our photoshoot. Under the jetty, we found ourselves in a different world – the crisscrossing wooden beams above created a beautiful pattern, adding a unique texture to the pictures. It was like capturing moments in a hidden treasure of Adelaide.

Photographing each individual family, the kids together, and the parents, I witnessed the bond that tied them all together. The laughter, the shared glances, and the unspoken love were palpable. The boys brandished their imaginary lightsabers, and with a bit of post-production magic, I brought their battle to life. These moments of playful imagination are what make family shoots so special – they’re not just about capturing faces but also about capturing spirits and dreams.

Of course, every shoot has its challenges. The bright sun, while perfect for a day out, can be a photographer’s nemesis. Squinting eyes are often unavoidable, but with a bit of positioning and timing, I managed to capture everyone with their best, sun-kissed faces forward. The key, I find, in such situations is to keep the mood light and fun. It’s amazing how a good laugh can relax the eyes and bring out natural smiles.

Building a rapport with a family you’ve just met is no small feat, especially when you’re seen as the “wierdo” with the camera. But, part of the joy in what I do lies in breaking down those initial barriers. By engaging with the family, cracking jokes, and sometimes making a fool of myself, I ensure everyone feels comfortable. It’s these little moments of connection that allow me to capture the family in their most natural and relaxed state.

Fun with a Vintage Box Brownie

Adding a twist to the shoot, I introduced a vintage Box Brownie camera from my collection. This 70-year-old camera wasn’t just a prop; it was a bridge connecting the past and present. Emily and James were fascinated by its history and charm, and it brought a unique flavor to their engagement session. The Box Brownie symbolized the timelessness of love, much like their own story.

Using the Box Brownie, we experimented with different poses and angles, creating a fun, playful atmosphere.
