SvenStudios Rebrand – Modern and Greener

You may have noticed on my socials, or on my website a new logo popping up about the place? Well this is part of the SvenStudios Rebrand – a simple refresh on what SvenStudios is all about and how we go about things.

I have been shooting weddings for over 16 years now – I’ve shot over 350 in Australia and around the world and over this time I’ve developed a bit of a unique mentality when it comes to shooting weddings. More recently my wife, Luisa has joined me primarily shooting the videography while I’m taking the photos – which is a bit of a change on how I would otherwise operate.

With a clear vision on what SvenStudios is all about when it comes to wedding photography and videography, and the changes in our underlying business model, the ‘SvenStudios rebrand’ was born!

First up is the new SvenStudios Logo – our new logo is representative of all the things that SvenStudios believes in and gives an insight into our goals when shooting at a wedding in an abstract way.

Old Logo

SvenStudios Logo
OLD LOGO

The old SvenStudios logo was modelled on the typical ‘camera iris’ motif that was quite common to use as a photographer’s logo back when I made it about 16 years ago. Back then my primary focus was landscape and travel photography – so I transformed the iris into a bit of a landscape scene.

If you look closely you can see me on the lower right standing with a tripod on a beach. Directly behind is a lighthouse, then a bird makes up the top of the logo, and finally a wave crashing into the beach where I’m standing. This creates a bit of a narrative for the viewer based loosely on how the fibonacci spiral works in the composition of photography – telling a story within an image.

As you can see the logo has undergone a radical simplification – making it more modern and simplified – but hidden in it’s simplicity is still quite a bit of meaning, just a bit more abstract than my old logo.

New Logo

SvenStudios Logo
NEW LOGO

I wanted the new SvenStudios logo to represent our past, but also what we are all about now. The past is represented in the new logo by keeping the circular shape – representing the camera iris. The center of the new logo is also still white showing that the attention to detail and development of stunning works of art in our photography is paramount.

There are two major factors in what we focus most on when producing our work, and that is the landscape surrounding us, and the married couple. These two factors are represented by the top section and the bottom section of the logo, which come together to make an ‘S’ for SvenStudios.

Here’s a bit of an animation illustrating this thought process.

SvenStudios Rebrand – Greener

It’s the focus on the landscape and producing works of art within the context of a wedding that has caused the development of our unique style of wedding photography – it’s an important part of why we have been so successful.

To show our connection to our surrounds and show it respect, we realised that we needed to preserve what we have.

SvenStudios has always been carbon neutral by offsetting 3 tonnes of carbon per year while also donating to the Australian disaster relief fund, while also giving discounts to members of the CFS and emergency services – but now we have become a member of 1% for the Planet.

This means that a minimum of 1% of all sales through SvenStudios is to be donated to an Earth Friendly charity.

1% for the Planet
1% for the Planet

This amazing initiative is geared towards businesses of all sizes across the globe and it’s a small price to pay for preserving what we have, and what we use to make a living – ie our surrounds! To date, the initiative has given over US$435 million in environmental solutions, and now SvenStudios – with your help, will also be contributing.

Chateau Yaldara Wedding – Haley & Jordan

Haley and Jordan’s Chateau Yaladara wedding was such a beautiful wedding to be a part of! Although the weather was certainly on the hot side, the whole day was a lot of fun and full of family who simply wanted to celebrate the coming together of this lovely couple!

Preparation Photos

Both Haley and Jordan was prepared at the Chateau Yaldara House, which is the onsite accomodation at Chateau Yaldara – so directly after setting up the photobooth for later in the evening, I head over to the house to greet Haley and her bridal party.

On arriving I immediately loved the open lobby area of the house – it’s white tiles and open, airy space seemed purpose built for some pretty bridal photos, so after Haley and her bridal aprty was prepared upstairs, we made use of this area for a few glamour pohtos and a first look with Dad – which was beautifully emotional!

Jordan and his entourage had also arrived by this point and were patiently hiding in another room waiting for Haley to hide as we used the same spaces for Jordana dn his groomsmen to get ready. They got ready in the only lower room which diddn’t have some odd choice of curtains, and also made use of the nearby historic buildings with their red wedding car!

Chateau Yaldara Wedding Ceremony

Haley and Jordans was the second wedding I have covered at the Chateau Yaldara, but Haley and Jorden’s Chateau Yaldara wedding was the first that took place in front of the impressive Manor House. It was a little unfortunate that the weather was pretty warm, as there wasn’t much cover for their guests, but Im sure nobody minded too much as soon as they spotted Haley and her father arriving via helicopter on the main lawn!

The helicopter flight was a surprise for Haley as a gift from her bridal party and keeping it a secret from her all morning was rather difficult as she had her own timeline to keep to, but the bridal party had other plans!

The wedding ceremony was nice and simple with a short reading and heartfelt vows.

Hosting a Chateau Yaldara wedding means your photos are set among rolling hills and vineyards, providing a beautiful and romantic backdrop for wedding photos. We used the natural areas surrounding the nearby pond for the most part, alongside one of the beautiful walls that make up the historic winery.

We did attempt to use the inside of the main cellar door, only to be shut out (a few minutes early) by the winery staff, so we instead made use of other features around the beautiful grounds – including convincing Haley to climb the impressive looking rocks over the other side of the small stream nearby!

Chateau Yaldara Wedding Reception

Haley and Jordan’s reception was a tonne of fun, with a lot of dancing, and making use of my photobooth during the night – their guests were lovely to be around and the whole atmosphere was joyfully laid back!

Their night culminated with a bit of a sparkler send off on the main Chateau Yaldara steps – which was awesome 😀

Woodstock Wines Wedding – Lisa & Simon

The Adelaide weather towards the end of November and Start of December was certainly something that could not be predicted! Only the week prior I was across the road at Beresford Estate for a wedding in the rain, and then the next week at Lisa and Simon’s Woodstock Wines wedding in harsh sunlight!

Lisa and Simon’s day was beautifully laid back, full of people who simply wanted to celebrate the coming together of this lovely couple with no fuss – it was a delight for both my wife and I to be a part of!

Preparation

Lisa was prepared north of the city at their family home alongside her bridal party and parents. Inbetween running after the kids, Lisa and her bridal squad got ready with little fuss, pausing for a first look with Mum and Day out the front, and then a champagne pop – which is always a lot of fun!

Lisa and Simon asked my wife to head in the other direction so that she could cover the photography of the boys were being prepared at the on-site bed and breakfast available at Woodstock winery. They certainly wasted no time getting ready!

Woodstock Wines Wedding Ceremony

After heading back from the girl’s preparation, I managed to get back to Woodstock Winery early, which allowed me to finish setting up the photobooth that I had dropped off earlier in the morning. I couldn’t set it up earlier as Woodstock was open for lunch, so it had to wait until that was over.

Lisa and her bridal party arrived in a huge, silver limo, right up on the lawns in front of where their ceremony had been set up. After a little fussing about with making sure the page boys had everything, they led the party towards Simon, patiently waiting in the sun.

And what a sun! It was certainly warm out there in the direct sunlight! Thankfully Lisa and Simon’s ceremony wasn’t overly long, with some personal vows and a quick kiss before making the celebratory exit!

After the ceremony, we took a quick group shot with the drone, and a few shots with the bridal party and the limo, but then the time between the ceremony and the reception was very laid back, with guests simply enjoying the open bar and beautiful weather!

It wasn’t until a bit later in the day when the sun was in a better spot before we went on a bit of a walk around the grounds for glamour photos.

We started right next to the reception hall, in the garden area – in which the sun was illuminating all the foliage in a spectacular way. Then we also head out to the nearby vinyard, closer to sunset to make use of the vines.

Beresford Estate Wedding – Sonya & Jeff

It was a rather overcast day for Sonya and Jeff’s Beresford Estate wedding, amongst the stunning vineyards of Mclaren Vale!

The rain was threatening, but it held off just long enough for their ceremony on the back lawn of this beautiful establishment and this seemed to be the only hiccup throughout this stunning day!

Preparation

Both Sonya and Jeff were being prepared at opposite ends of the main reception hall in separate – but connected self contained apartments – which made the morning that much easier for all involved.

Sonya was having her makeup done, while Jeff was running about putting finishing touches on the ceremony details such as flowers, setting up chairs and figuring out where they were going to source electricity for their wedding singer!

When we finally caught up with Jeff, we made use of one end of the beautiful accomodation alongside his groomsmen for a few shots before heading over to Sonya’s side.

Sonya and her bridal party were all in high spirits, running about trying to hide Sonya from passing guests as they walked past the windows on the way to the ceremony location.

We had a bit of fun with the champagne, added hair extensions to Dad for a bit of fun, and made sure to make some time for a bit of a first look with Mum and Dad before walking down the aisle.

Beresford Estate Wedding Ceremony

Sonya and Jeff’s Beresford Estate Wedding Ceremoyn took place on the large grassy area at the rear opf the reception venue, making use of the modern black on concrete exterior that has ivy growing in a square pattern asa the backdrop.

Their ceremony was modern, but still very classic in it’s approach with the  delightful inclusion of Sonya’s parents in the ceremony which made everyone smile.

After the ceremony, the rain started to fall for a bit so we moved inside the reception hall – thankfully it diddnt stay too long so we managed to have a few group shots on the front lawns before everyone retired to the rooftop terrace for drinks while Sonya, Jeff, my wife and I head out to Port Noarlunga Jetty for some glamour shots.

SOnya and Jeff were very laid back and were keen on doing whatever it took to get any of the shots I had in my mind, which made the entire process really easy and natural!

Beresford Estate Wedding Reception

Sonya and Jeffs reception started off with a bang, with them entering directly to the dancefloor and asking everyone to join in! Was a great way to get everyone in the mood to party early on and set the scene for a really exciting Tuesday night! (Yes that’s right, Tuesday wedding! Becoming a lot more common these days!)

The highlight of the evening for me would have to have been the dance off between the boys and girls tot he tune of ‘Greece Lightning‘ which saw som rather spectacular moves on the dance floor! We also made sure to use some smoke in the vineyards and of course an incredible sparkler ‘sendoff’ which we did a little earlier in the night so that we could have everyone in attendance be a part!

Ritamaree Varricchio &

Sydney Sparrow

Married at Sunnybrae Dunction Centre, followed by a celebration at the Donato Reception Centre

PEONY-loving bride Ritamaree chose the date for her marriage to Sydney based on when her favourite flower would be in bloom.

“I wanted peonies… yes, I based my entire wedding around these flowers,” she laughs.

“I also wanted a cake that would showcase some beautiful pink peonies and Rebecca (Rebecca’s Cakes) made this dream come true.”

The couple opted to have their ceremony, officiated by celebrant Annette Perry, in the pavilion at Sunnybrae Estate, which they say is a first, moving to an indoor location for their reception, sharing the special occasion with 170 guests.

Photos were taken in the garden at each venue, as well as Port Adelaide’s wool stores.

“Sydney used to live in Port Adelaide and the very first time we drove past (the wool stores) together he told me that we would take our wedding photos there.” she says.

Social Worker Ritamaree, 27, the daughter of Dernancourt’s Elisa and Silvio Varricchio, pays tribute to her sister and matron of honour Cassandra whom she says she couldn’t have done it without, in the lead-up to her specil day.

Cassandra was joined in the bridal party by bridesmaids Chelsea Marks and Medica Eliepa and Ritamaree’s godson, Miliano Di Pinto.

Sydney had two best men, Ashley Olsen and Kieran McCutcheon, accompanied by the bride’s brother, Luciano Varricchio, as a groomsman.

Draftsman Sydney, 29, proposed to Ritamaree, who he met on dating app Tinder seven years earlier, in the rose garden at the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

The couple plan to honeymoon in the US later this year.
