Baby Samara’s Newborn Shoot

Little Baby Samara came into the studio on such short notice for a newborn session, and with good reason. Her parents had just learned that early the next week, she would need to wear a hip brace due to hip dysplasia. The urgency of capturing her in all her soft, delicate, uninhibited glory before that brace went on was absolutely understood. It was a moment they wanted to freeze in time—a moment where she could still wriggle her tiny legs freely and comfortably.

As a photographer, but also as a parent, this moment hit home for me in a unique way. My own little Chloe had gone through the same experience with hip dysplasia. I knew all too well what it meant for Baby Samara and her parents. For a while, those tiny legs wouldn’t be able to kick or curl up naturally, and those sweet moments of movement would soon be paused for the sake of her health. Knowing this gave the shoot an extra layer of emotional significance for me, and it was my goal to capture the softness and serenity of Samara, just as she was, before the brace became a part of her early journey.

Baby Samara’s shoot in our home studio

The session itself was filled with calm, patience, and warmth, though Baby Samara was quick to make her feelings known when the room wasn’t warm enough. Like any newborn shoot, we were working with a very small window of time between naps, feeds, and little bursts of grumpiness—those adorable, scrunchy, frowny faces that parents cherish. Baby Samara was no exception. As soon as the air hit her delicate skin, she let us know it was a bit too chilly for her liking! Once wrapped back up, or even better, once she was nestled into her mum or dad’s arms, all was right in her world again.

This shoot took place in our cozy home studio here in Aberfoyle Park, where we’ve crafted the perfect environment for newborn sessions. The soft lighting, comfortable seating for parents, and our go-to props were all in place, ready to make Samara shine. The focus of this shoot was all on her, and we kept the parents mostly in the background, occasionally swooping in for a cuddle or a reassuring stroke on her back. These tender moments, while not the main focus of the images, were everything for keeping the session smooth and Baby Samara content.

By the end of the session, we had a beautiful collection of photos that truly captured Baby Samara’s essence. Her tiny toes, her sleepy expressions, and even her grumpy little moments were all frozen in time. These images are now a part of her story—one that her parents will look back on with fondness. This newborn phase is always fleeting, but for Samara, it held even more significance because of what was just around the corner.

As a newborn photographer in Adelaide, I’m reminded constantly of how precious these early days are. Baby Samara’s shoot was a beautiful reminder of the importance of capturing every phase of life, even the tiniest ones, because they pass all too quickly. For Samara’s family, these photos will forever serve as a reminder of who she was before that hip brace, a little girl full of personality and sweetness.

The Manor Wedding in Basket Range – Janine & Darryl

Janine and Darryl’s wedding day was nothing short of magical, even with the unpredictable weather! They chose The Manor in Basket Range, one of the most enchanting venues in the Adelaide Hills. The day was filled with love, laughter, and a dash of spontaneity. You’d never know it was raining for most of the day, given how well we dodged the weather. The Manor’s grand architecture, lush surroundings, and whimsical ambiance created a perfect backdrop for their big day.

What stood out most about Janine and Darryl’s wedding was their personal touch. From the board game dice decorating the reception tables to the playfulness of the day, it felt like I had stepped into a vibrant world full of laughter and joy. I couldn’t help but feel like at any moment, a spontaneous game of Dungeons and Dragons would break out! Their attention to detail truly made this wedding unique, reflecting their personalities and passions beautifully.

Preparation

The day kicked off with Darryl and his groomsmen, who were in high spirits from the start. Getting ready in a room on the far side of The Manor, the guys were full of energy, cracking jokes and even posing shirtless for a few fun shots. The playful atmosphere made for some great candid moments, but keeping Darryl from sneaking a peek at Janine before the ceremony added a layer of excitement. With their suits on and laughter in the air, the boys were more than ready for the big day ahead.

Meanwhile, Janine and her bridal party were getting ready in one of The Manor’s charming rooms, filling the space with laughter and joy. The morning was a mix of excitement and calm, with Janine beaming as she admired her gown hanging on display. The Juliet balcony, with its romantic allure, became the perfect spot for some intimate pre-wedding moments. The Manor Wedding Ceremony

The Manor wedding ceremony was a dream come true, even with a sprinkling of rain just as things got started. The drizzle only added to the atmosphere, and as it lightened up, the magic of the moment took over. The couple’s children brought an extra layer of cuteness to the ceremony, eager for cuddles from Mum and Dad as they exchanged vows. Watching them sneak in for hugs between Janine and Darryl’s legs was heart-melting. It was those little moments that made the day feel so personal and intimate.

Glamour Photos

After the ceremony, it was time for the glamour photos, and The Manor’s sprawling grounds always provides the perfect playground. Despite the rain turning into a fine mist, it only enhanced the photos, creating a soft glow in the images. The raindrops on the leaves and stone walls reflected the ambient light, making everything look like it was kissed by magic.

One of the standout moments was when we captured Janine and Darryl in front of the main keep, their silhouettes illuminated against the moody sky. With the help of a very enthusiastic friend holding smoke cans, we created some stunningly dramatic shots that were both romantic and ethereal.

The Manor Wedding Reception

Their Manor wedding reception was nothing short of a full-on celebration! Set against the cozy, rustic backdrop of The Manor’s grand hall, the room was buzzing with energy. Janine and Darryl’s unique sense of style continued to shine through at the reception with fun décor touches like the board game dice scattered throughout the tables. It brought a playful element to the evening, and for a moment, I half-expected a spontaneous game of Dungeons and Dragons to break out!

The photobooth was also a big hit, with guests lining up to snap some hilarious keepsakes. For the adults, there was a spirited treasure hunt, which kept the guests on their toes. And then, of course, the dance floor – it was packed all night long! As we moved through different parts of the park, we made sure to capture every combination of family members—grandparents holding their little granddaughter, parents sharing a laugh, and the whole family together, framed by the natural beauty of the park. There’s something incredibly exciting about photographing a wedding at a venue we haven’t visited before, and Brooke and Arthur’s special day at Faithwood Chapel in West Lakes was no exception. After the heartfelt ceremony at Faithwood Chapel, we ventured to the iconic Port Adelaide precinct for Brooke and Arthur’s glamour photos. Port Adelaide, with its historic charm, offered a stunning contrast to the classic elegance of the chapel. The couple, still basking in the joy of their ceremony, were a delight to photograph as they explored the area’s hidden gems.

The famed Port Adelaide lighthouse provided a striking backdrop, its towering structure adding a sense of grandeur to the couple’s portraits. As we snapped away, a friendly dolphin even made a surprise appearance, adding a touch of magic to the already perfect day.

The alleyways of Port Adelaide, with their rustic brick walls and charming nooks, were the ideal setting for capturing some truly unique moments. Brooke and Arthur’s playful personalities shone through in every shot, as they laughed and embraced, completely at ease in front of the camera. As the day transitioned from the intimate ceremony at Faithwood Chapel to the vibrant streets of Port Adelaide, we were able to capture a wide range of emotions and settings, each one adding to the rich tapestry of Brooke and Arthur’s wedding day. The final stop at Carmine and Co for their lunchtime reception was the perfect way to round off the celebrations. The warm, inviting atmosphere of the restaurant, coupled with delicious food and heartfelt toasts, made for a relaxed and joyful end to a day that was truly unforgettable.
