Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding – Kirsty & Andrew

Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding – Kirsty & Andrew

It was a stunningly sunny day for Kirsty and Andrew’s Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding. The small town of Sedan, near Renmark in the South Australian Riverland was the setting for this fun wedding where everyone just seemed to want to have a good time! I was asked to be their wedding photographer for their preparation through to the beginning of their reception, so lets jump straight into it shall we?

Preparation

I began the day at Kirsty and Andrew’s new house nearby the town of Sedan. I was quite excited to see some awesome gum trees on the horizon and rolling golden hills that I was hoping to use later in the day for their wedding photos.

Kirsty and her bridal party were being prepared here, and the atmosphere was quite laid back, with Kirsty more worried about where her boots were than any nerves she might have been feeling due to her being married a bit later.

As they had just moved into their new home, it was quite a neat thing to have the entire front room quite free in order to use while putting on the wedding dress – made taking photos that much easier! 🙂

Andrew and his groomsmen were getting ready in another farm house nearby, but this spot had some very nifty old ruins, which of course I made use of in the short amount of time I had with the boys. One thing I found very co-incidental is that Andrew and his boys were enjoying some clay shooting prior to me arriving for their photos, which I had only ever seen for the first time at the wedding I covered just the week prior! Is this a new trend? 😀

Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding

You simply cannot miss the Sedan Lutheran Church as it towers over the rest of the small town with it’s huge steeple and traditional small town church styling. It’s also located right on the intersection of 4 roads that lead into the center of town. The church itself is a bit on the small side, with only a single aisle leading through the middle of the church. As it was a reasonably hot day, it was a struggle for some guests to stay cool – but it wasn’t overly stifling. One neat feature of the inside of the church is the ability for some guests to venture to the upper level – I got some neat shots from up there.

Kirsty and Andrew’s Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding was presided over a priest who was friend of the couple and began with the tolling of the church’s bells, which I dont see very often! It was a reasonably simple ceremony with a number of readings from guests and blessings from their priest.

One great thing about church weddings like this is when the bride and groom exits out the front, and if the guests are keen to help – I can tee up a fun shot of everyone throwing the rose petals over the couple – which of course I did!

Glamour Photos

After the required group photos out the front of the church, we head back inside of the church in order to take a few glamour photos using the pews and interior a little before heading out to the Renmark foreshore to make use of the greenery there. My favourite glamour photos from Kirsty and Andrew’s Sedan Lutheran Church Wedding though were taken on a portion of Kirsty and Andrew’s family land.

We drove to a spot where there was a ruin of an old cottage and barn which we made use of for some great shots, before moving to the nearby hills which I had a lot of fun flying over with my drone! We finished off in amongst the lovely gum trees growing out of a dry creek bed nearby.

Lot 100 Wedding – Alice & Dion

As an Adelaide Hills wedding photographer, capturing Alice and Dion’s Lot 100 Wedding in Hay Valley was an absolute blast! The day was filled with so much fun and excitement that it seemed to fly by in a flash. Even though I started early in the morning in Myponga and didn’t finish until late at Lot 100, every moment was filled with joy and celebration.

From the exhilarating clay pigeon shooting to the lively German folk dancing, the entire day was a thrill to be a part of. As a wedding photographer, I was able to capture some amazing scenes that truly showcased the love and happiness of the couple. Overall, Alice and Dion’s wedding was an unforgettable experience that I was honored to be a part of as their photographer.

Preparation

Dion and a group of his friends all congregated in the early morning at Myponga to go Clay Pidgeon shooting together on a nearby farm. I had never even been present when this sport was going on, so I was quite excited for it – certainly made for a different change in pace to what I’d usually be taking photos of while the boys were getting ready! Dion even gave me a turn at trying my hand at shooting, and it turned out I was pretty good at it! Gave a new meaning to the phrase ‘out shooting a wedding’. 🙂

Alice and her bridal party were being prepared at a bed and breakfast in Stirling. It was a delightful little cottage with an intimate green garden full of little nooks to have details shots done of the rings, shoes, etc. The inside of the house was also well set up to take photos as there was some like windows around on plainly painted walls that just work very well for this kind of thing. Along with Alice’s bridal party there was also Alice’s brother there making sure everything ran well, but also there to provide some friendly, brotherly fun. 🙂

Lot 100 Wedding Ceremony

The location where Alice and Dion chose to set up their Lot 100 Wedding ceremony was on the sloped grass behind the main restaurant on site. It has a bit of a slope to it, but not so much that people could not stand straight. It was also great as there was a wonderful backdrop of tall gumtrees in each shot. The only unfortunate thing was that because it was set up that way, the sun was directly in Alice, Dion’s and the celebrant’s face – but the guests were more comfortable!

The ceremony itself was nice and simple, with a reading from a friend and a bit of laughter all round as the celebrant retold small bits of Alice and Dion’s relationship up to now.

Glamour Photos

A rather unique part of Alice and Dion’s day was the after effects of the large bushfires that were raging on the nearby Kangaroo Island, causing smoke to waft up through the valley and cause the backdrop of most of their photos to be quite hazy. It made it very easy for me to create a beautiful set of wedding photos that really isolate Alice and Dion, but also incorporate the stunning surrounds of their Lot 100 wedding day.

We began their glamour photos using the trees nearby where they had the wedding ceremony set up. I wanted to use the valley as a bit of a backdrop with the bridal party and also use the sun shining through the trees a bit to create an ethreal feel to the shots. We then moved up the hill a bit with the bridal party and took a few more shots on a giant felled tree trunk, which was pretty enat to arrange a group shot like that.

Finally we hopped into their 4 wheel drive and drove around the huge paddock on site, towards a magnificently huge gum treeright in the middle of it all. While doing this I also had the drone flying about as the scenery was absolutely epic from the sky. We finished off by using the small forrest of gum trees situated at the top of a nearby hill, where I was looking forward to again taking shots looking through the trees.

Lot 100 Wedding Reception

The Lot 100 wedding reception area is a beautifully set out restaurant enclosed within a modernly built structure lined with windows all around. The center of the restaurant is the bar where they serve a huge amount of different craft beers and wines. Alice and Dion had their dance floor set up at one end of the area.

A huge standout of their night was the German dancers Alice and Dion had organised to come in and perform for their guests. The dancers made a bit of a mockery of Dion in good spirits while they also demonstrated their skill with some highly complicated dancing and music! Was a sight to see!

Another stand out for me was the fact that their night happened to be on a night with a super full moon, so we made sure to get out and make use of the moon while it wasnt hiding behind clouds. The smoke from the fires also made it a rusty orange colour! Really quite pretty!

Inglewood Inn Wedding – Kasia & Ben

  • Kasia & Ben

    Inglewood Inn Wedding

    Inglewood Inn Wedding Photo

I’d been looking forward to being Kasia and Ben’s wedding photographer ever sinse Kasia had asked me to do it several months prior as I grew up with Kasia’s brother throughout High School and knew they were a wonderful bunch of people! It was a super hot day for Kasia and Ben’s Inglewood Inn wedding, but the heat really did not stop the jovial nature of their wedding guests. The whole day was full of laughter, joy and intimate moments that just makes being a wedding photographer all the more worthwhile.

Preparation

Ben and a few of the boys were being prepared at a house on the other side of town. If Ben had any nerves he certainly wasnt showing them as he was quite keen on making the preparation time quite fun by having photos done in his jocks, and throwing banter about with some of the other boys getting ready there.

Kasia was being prepared in a hotel room at The Watson, North East of the city. The room was light and airy with a huge window at one end of the room which made for great natural light to seep through and illuminate everthing. Kasia was getting prepared in the same room as several others, including her brother who was also acting as her ‘Man of honour’, and ‘Flower Man’ during the cermeony.

Inglewood Inn Wedding Ceremony

The day was so hot that it was an absolute blessing to have the canopy of stunning oak tree foliage covering Kasia and ben’s guests during the ceremony. I really felt bad for Ben and some of the other men through in 3 piece suits! I even had some of my secondary equipment fail on me due to the heat it was that hot. Luckily, when holding an Inglewood Inn wedding ceremony, usually the whole ceremony takes place in the shade. Also, it certainly did not put any hamper on processings as Kasia and Ben’s ceremony was full of heartfelt vows and readings from important members of the family. Even their celebrant was a friend of the family!

It was lovely to be a part of 🙂 It’s also a lot of fun to see a grown man act as the ‘flower man’ rather than a little girl – always puts a smile on everyones face!

Glamour Photos

The Inglewood Inn is an incredible place to take photos in, with beautifully curated areas around the grassy spot for the ceremony, but also very unkempt areas surrounding a number of creeks flowing through the property. Theres also even a beautiful old colonial cottage ruin a short walk away, along with a paddock full of farm animals and gum trees.

Of course though, the main drawcard for having wedding photos done at the Inglewood Inn is Gollop’s Bridge, which happens to be the oldest road bridge still in use in SA.  Named after John Gollop who constructed a wooden bridge over the branch of the Little Para river just below the Inglewood Inn in the 1840’s. The bridge was replaced by the current stone-arch bridge in 1863. We used the bridge during the day to get what I figure to be the ‘money shot’ of an Inglewood Inn wedding, but we also head back out at night with some smoke in a can to use the area in the dark.

Inglewood Inn Wedding Reception

The inglewood Inn reception area overlooks the ceremony grounds so well that you could potentially attent a wedding here without leaving the reception hall. It boasts panoramic windows overlooking the hills surrounding the venue and is large enough to host larger weddings, while still being quite an intimate space.

Kasia and ben’s reception was full of lovely speeches by quite a few guests, and everyone was up on the dance floor which was great to see!

Crafers West NYE 20s Theme Wedding – Alana & James

  • Alana & James

Crafers West NYE 20s Theme wedding

Hugs in the last light of 2019

Alana and James opted to make their wedding a little bit of fun by holding their big day on New Years eve, and have a 20s theme wedding. All their guests would dress up in 1920s era clothing with a nod towards the fact that they were ringing in the 2020s. There were pin striped suits and flapper dresses galor on top of the hill at Crafers West and their reception ‘roared’ right into the early morning hours!

Preparation

Both Alana and James had made it fairly clear to me that they werent a huge fan of having photos taken, and requested that I mainly stay in the shadows for the entire day taking more candid shots of what was going on. This included the preparation period of the day. So after having set up the photo booth at the venue in Crafers West, I head down to the friend’s house that James was being prepared in. Alana and Jame’s son was getting ready there too, and made the whole scene a delight with his silly antics.

Alana was being prepared nearby in the family home, surrounded by family and friends, and while most people I shoot state that they dont like being in front of a camera, I’m that kind of a photographer that likes to sneak in a shot or two during totally oragnic moments that capture a proper smile and authentic emotion. Thats what I feel as though wedding photography is all about!

Crafers West NYE 20s Theme Wedding Ceremony

Usually when I do a writeup of a wedding I have covered as a wedding photographer, I like to make sure everyone knows the venue, however the venue that Alana and James chose isnt actually on the map. Although the oowners live on site, it is a venue that is public, and has held weddings and events in the past, but it’s not published anywhere due to the owners not feeling as though the site isnt quite ready yet. It is an amazing spot in Crafers West though, with sweeping views of Glenelg and everything inbetween. The fun part of having a New years Eve wedding here was that we could watch the Glenelg fireworks at 9pm and 12pm, although they were quite small and far away.

Asthis was a 20s theme wedding ceremony, all of Alana and James’ guests had dressed for the part and watched them get married over the nifty little duck pond found at the center of the property. Alana and James had set up their arbour overlooking the view, and although it was a fairly cloudy, and smokey day due to bushfires, it was a stunning view.

Glamour Photos

As I mentioned earlier, glamour photos were not a thing Alana and James were looking forward to, so I made sure that our glamour shoots were short and to the point. I had them walk along the driveway surrounding the reception venue twice and that was it – I then tried to use some of the natural features of the garden during the night when convenient.

Crafers West NYE 20s Theme Wedding Reception

The main event of the entire day was really the reception party – Alana and James had sources several food carts and caterers to feed and water their guests, while also making a splsh with an impressive champagn flute pyramid which was  filled up towards the end of the night. All their guests were very chummy with one another which made the whole 20s theme wedding really come together nicely and made the whole night a joy to be a part of!

Al-Ru Farm Wedding – Hailey & Brad

Hailey and Brad’s Al-Ru Farm Wedding took place on a stunning day in mid November and made for some stunning photos and awesome memories for all those involved! Hailey and Brad had put huge amount of effort into making their day as stunning as possible, and they certainly did a great job! I was so pleased to be Hailey and Brad’s wedding photographer and I feel as though I took some neat shots!

Preparation

The day started as it usually does with Brad and his groomsmen where they were being prepared in room at the Mawson Lakes hotel. It was a nice sized room which allowed everyone to move about and create some nice wide sweeping shots. The atmosphere was jovial, with the boys all ripping on one another and drawing attention to their matching underwear they had bought specially for the occasion! They made an appearance again later in the night during Eagle rock.

Hailey and her bridal party were being prepared on site at Al-Ru farm in the awesome little cottage bed and breakfast they have. The cottage features some wonderfully rustic features like a wall of arched windows and beautiful wooden floors. It’s a great set up – perfect for wedding photos like this! The girls were all enjoying their morning when I arrived and were enjoying sharing a bottle of their favourite wine. The highlight of the morning I feel was when Dad walked in for the reveal of Hailey’s dress – which is always an awesome moment to capture!

Al-Ru Farm Wedding ceremony

Hailey and Brad’s Al-Ru farm wedding ceremony took place in the purpose built little grassy area on site with the sun located behind the bride and groom. As it was a fairly sunny day, this is always appreciated by a wedding photographer as it makes it that much easier to expose correctly.

There was a humerous moment as the ceremony began where Hailey seemed to purposely take her time to make an appearance, the guests all made funny faces towards Brad, heckling him as if she wasn’t arriving – but of course she did 🙂 The whole ceremony was a light hearted affair, complete with several readings from family and friends. The whole thing was quite beautiful.

Glamour Photos

Al-Ru farm is an incredible little gem hidden amongst the Adelaide hills, it almost seems purpose built to take stunning wedding photos wherever you venture – I could easily spend all day just wandering about the gardens with a couple and take awesome photos! After the usual family photos, Hailey, Brad and their bridal party went for a bit of a walk through the gardens making use of the incredible foliage available. From the trees, to the yellowed grass and the sunset setting over the pond – they were all amazing scenes. During the night we also head out to the lovely little greenhouse Al-Ru Farm has on site and I opened a smoke bomb, filling it with white smoke to create an awesome effect, worked really well!

Al-Ru Farm Wedding reception

Speaking about smoke – Hailey and Brad has a bit of smoke going all night on their dance floor – making it tricky to get shots of their first dance – but the ones that did turn out, turned out awesomely! Really adds to the atmosphere. Everyone involved at the reception all seemed like they had an awesome time, complete with copious amounts of drinking and fun times. 🙂
