Northern Palm Garden Wedding – Botanic Gardens – Annabelle & Tom

The Adelaide Botanic Gardens was the setting for Annabelle and Tom’s beautiful wedding which they had travelled from WA for! Their Northern Palm Garden Wedding showcased the closeness of Annabelle and Tom’s family and friends while also having me livestream their ceremony to guests who could not attend due to the COVID pandemic.

Preparation

I began the day with Annabelle and her family being prepared at a house nearby. The atmosphere was laid back and fun filled with the ladies making sure everyone was having some fun with the preparations and dad helping me move their furniture around to get the best angles for shots 🙂

Northern Palm Garden Wedding Ceremony

Annabelle and Tom’s wedding ceremony took place at my favourite of the 9 Botanic Gardens wedding spots available under the large gum tree in what’s called the Northern Palm Garden, which is right by the northern friendship gates with in the northern section of the gardens.

I love this spot due to the huge gum tree that acts as a backdrop to the wedding ceremony where the light of the sun shines through to make for a very nice scene! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t overly sunny for for this Northern Palm Garden wedding ceremony which meant they had to have standby umbrellas for their guests during the ceremony – but thankfully it diddnt rain.

The ceremony itself was a lovely simple affair, full of smiles and family well wishes which was beautiful.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Photoshoot

After the family photos which we took around the rear of where their Northen Palm Garden wedding ceremony took place we made the most of the wonderfully overcast day to take some glamour photos around the Botanic Gardens. We began at the bridge located behind the Northern Palm Garden, then head down the elm boulevard, avoiding the other weddings that were taking place on the same day, and ending up at Araucarla Avenue where one of the groom’s men – Nick was married and I shot his wedding!

It’s always fun to see couples that I had photographed in the past at other weddings!

South Australian Museum Wedding Reception

Annabelle and Tom held their wedding reception in the grassy area in the old mounted police barracks behind the South Australian Museum. A large marquee was erected to keep everyone warm and out of any weather – which never eventuated. I always find it fun to show people who diddnt know it was there as I feel as though it’s one of the best kept secrets of Adelaide – despite it being completely public space!

The night was fun, with plenty of heartfelt speeches about Annabelle and Tom’s relationship and their life in WA. It was such a great night to be a part of and I’m super pleased I got to make use of the archway towards the wedding ceremony for a biut of a night shot before I left for the night as it turned out to be one of my favourite shots from the day.

I’d like to thank Annabelle and Tom for having me as their wedding photographer at their lovely Northern Palm Garden wedding in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens – i suppose we could also say it was a destination wedding! Was a glorous day and I hope you enjoy your photos!

Sunnybrae Estate Wedding – Cristina & Thanasi

It was a gloriously sunny day for Cristina and Thanasi’s Sunnybrae Estate wedding at the beginning of October!

This lovely couple shared the day with family and friends and their personalities shone like a shining diamond all day! From a George Costanza photoshoot, immaculate grass and dancing all night with plenty of drink – their day was a joy to be a part of!

Preparation

I started the day at Thanasi’s place of preparation after having set up their photobooth at the Sfera’s Function center ready to go for their reception. His entourage were all there too along with Thanasi’s parents and some friends.

The atmosphere was laid back and fun filled where the boys shared some nice liquid courage and even goaged Thanasi into a bit of a risqué Seinfeild-inspired photoshoot which was a bit of fun! We even got to enjoy a bit of Thanasi’s father’s musical skills where he gave s an impromptu solo!

Cristina was prepared similar to Thanasi alongside her bridal party, family and friends, also with a similar laid back attitude to the whole experience.

A part of the birdal party preparation was cracking open a champaigne bottle on Thanasi’s immaculately curated lawn which I hope diddnt harm it much! Certainly looked as though that lawn was a labour of love!

Sunnybrae Estate Wedding Ceremony

Being a photographer at a Sunnybrae Estate wedding is an experience I had not had for a very long time – it’s one of those wedding venues where it’s super popular for a number of different reasons – only to simply not book a wedding there for years and years – in my case it was around 7 years since I last shot a Sunnybrae Estate wedding, and the place had changed quite a bit since then! Funny thing is that I’ve now shot 2 here in the past few months!

The day was super sunny which made for Cristina and Thanasi’s choice of ceremony locations slightly unfortunate as they were forced to look back into the sun all ceremony, but at least their guests were in the shade thanks to the beautiful covering of trees available on the northern side of the ‘Marquee’ reception venue on the Sunnybrae estate grounds.

Their wedding ceremony was a short and simple one with Cristina and Thanasi sharing vows and their celebrant giving us all some amusing stories of their relationship up until this point.

Glamour Photos

After having all Cristina and Thanasi’s guests  move out to the open grassy area for a drone group photo, and then moving back out of the beating sun for smaller group shots – we then had a bit of a walk around the Sunnybrae grounds for some glamour photos making use of the sun shing through the lovely green foliage on display about the place.

We then head towards the city for a bit of a bite to eat at the fun APOPTECA bar – formally known as ‘the Apothecary’. The surrounds in here made for an interesting backdrop to some of their photos, while also using the famed black doorway of the nearby ‘Draling Building’.

Sferas Function Center Wedding Reception

Cristina and Thanasi’s Wedding reception took place in the Sfera’s Marquee function room, which boasts a huge area for large weddings and is always immaculately decked out with flowing silks, white sheets and general wedding prettyness!

Short of a bit of a hiccup with my photobooth early in the night – which I thank Cristina and Thanasi immensely for their understanding and patience, their night was a blast to be a part of! Ending far too soon with everyone on the dance floor ready to continue on until the early hours of the morning if the venue let them! I very much enjoyed the break out of Shalalala AUFC towards the end!

Partridge House Wedding – Jemma & Jordan

Jemma and Jordan’s Partridge House wedding took place on a delightfully sunny day in late September, and their day was full of fun, love and adventure!

Jemma and Jordan had selected a number of photo locations to head to all around Adelaide to make sure they had a wide variety of photos, and we even had an improptu visit by the SA Ghostbusters![/av_one_half]

Preparation

It’s not very often, but occasionally a bride will ask me to start my wedding photography coverage with her and her bridesmaids at a beauty salon where they would be having their hair and makeup done. In Jemma’s case I was with her and her entourage early in the morning taking some shots of everyone putting on their faces before heading over to Jordan’s place of preparation!

Jordan was getting ready in a nearby house along with his groomsmen and father. As I’ve said before groomsmen often just dont know how to tie a tie, so much of the time during preparation was simply trying to make it look right on everyone!

The atmosphere was jovial and laid back, which made for a delightful start to the day!

After Jordan’s preparation, I head over to Jemma’s place of preparation, which was an another home, closer to Glenelg. The girls were running a little late from the beauty salon which meant I was sitting there twiddling my thumbs for a bit before they arrived. 🙂

When they did though, all efforts were focussed on hiding Jemma’s dress, which apparently was a secret to some of the family members – I can’t remember the specifics, but apparently some had gone dress shopping with Jemma and thought they knew what she was wearing – but evidently not!

Partridge House Wedding Ceremony

Jemma and Jordan’s Partridge House wedding took place under the stunning large tree located to the side of the house, which shaded most of the congregation from the harsh sunlight, and also made for an amazing backdrop for the ceremony.

During the ceremony I was asked to also live stream for guests who could not attend, so I also had that set up on a tripod. I’m so glad I’m able to provide such a service – particularly in these restricted times.

Jemma and Jordan’s ceremony was a delightful simple affair, punctuated by the cute flower girl, and of course Jemma and Jordan’s fur baby which made an appearance!

Glamour Photos

As I mentioned, Jemma and Jordan weere keen to travel about quite a bit to make use of some of the stunning locations available between their Partridge House wedding ceremony and their reception at Chateau Apollo in the city.

So we made a bit of a trip of it, after using the Partridge House’s stunning garden, we began at the Grange Beach Jetty, then heading to the famed Port Adelaide’s Crozier Street – which was were we bumped into the Ghostbusters, finally heading to Veale Gardens in the city.

Partridge House

The great thing about having a Partridge House wedding is making use of the amazing European-style curated garden that sprawls around the property.

The main large tree, under which Jemma and Jordan held their wedding ceremony under is the jewel of the garden, while there is also sprawling grass fields in front of the house suited for family photos, plus fountains, green plants and all sorts – you could spend a lot of time here discovering new spots!

Grange Beach

Grange beach was reasonably nearby so we head there instead of the usually busy Glenelg to take some shots using the jetty as a backdrop. The wind was picking up quite a bit, so it was a bit of fun for the girls to keep their hair from blowing everywhere, but we made it work!

Crozier Street

When I arrived at Crozier street, before everyone else I was worried to see that some ghostbusters had been called out for some paranormal activity! Thankfully they had already caught their ghost before we arrived, and agreed to have a bit of a photo with the bride and groom! This made for a rather unique wedding photo!

Crozier Street in Port Adelaide is a super popular spot to have some industrial themed wedding photos done, boasting grungy, but clean brickwalls and nifty corregated iron walk ways that span the road overhead. The street has also been made famous with recent films like Mortal Combat.

Veale Gardens

Veale Gardens was the last stop on our way to Chateau Apollo in the city for their reception. The plan was to use the gardens for a bit of greenery in amongst the beach and industrial stle photos we had been taking up until now. It was also a convenient spot to make use of the sunset nearby the reception venue without having to travel too far!

Chateau Apollo Wedding Reception

Jemma and Jordan’s Chateau Apollo wedding reception took place in the private function room, with the entrance on Frome road. Its a delightfully, rustic spot right in the middle of the city which made for a surprisingly intimate and private space for a reception despite being in the middle of the city.

The night was full of dancing, fun speeches and I got to sit on the head table – which was a bit of a first as a wedding photographer! haha Made me feel old though – as everyone around me was quite young.

Mount Torrens Hotel Wedding – Clare & Craig

  • Clare & Craig

    Mount Torrens Hotel Wedding

bride and groom amongst young trees

Clare and Craig’s Mount Torren’s Hotel wedding took place in lieu of a larger wedding they had planned right back before all this COVID stuff happened. Instead of having dozens of friends and family members in attendance, they opted to hold a tiny little ceremony at the delightful new Mount Torrens Hotel wedding venue in late August, with the plan of holding a large reception once everyone is able to travel again.

Mount Torrens Hotel Wedding Ceremony

The Mount Torrens Hotel wedding spot is an old, rustic little barn which according to Craig they had only just emptied of trash ready for their wedding ceremony! The Hotel boasts a delightful rustic vibe with old-world charm within and without the hotel itself, while also being surrounded by a beautiful little town, and a grassy area that would be suited for a large marquee – should the need arise.

Clare and Craig were drawn to this simple little corner of the world as they said they enjoy seeking out the simple beauty in smaller locations like this – which I felt made this wedding that much more intimate.

Around 10 witnesses were in attendance, those which could not attend made use of my 360 virtual reality recording I produce for all the weddings I cover, which makes the fact that not being able to attend that much more bareable.

Clare walked down the aisle to some very untraditional heavy metal, while the area was also decorated with fluffy dinosaurs and other things which made the space uniquely theirs.

Glamour Photos

After the group photos which we took in front of the barn’s brick wall behind the Mount Torrens Hotel wedding venue, we head off to a nearby farm which Clare and Craig had found online after a bit of a shout out on social media, simply looking for someplace nice to take photos in.

The farmstead boasted a lovely curated garden, somplete with walkways and little wooden brides and huts which we made use of, before also making use of the natural Australian bush land in the dying sun of the day. I really enjoyed myself here as the sun was shining through the foliage in the most delightful way!

Clare and Craig told me that they had chosen me as their wedding photographer as they liked the way I managed to capture not only a bridal couple, but also the simple elegance of the landscape around them without drawing too much attention away from the subject of the image.

Getting comments like this is really what being a photographer was all about and it really made me smile! Not only because these lovely people enjoyed my work, but also the fact that I was with them on such a delightful day in which it was super easy to produce such wonderful work!

I had an absolute blast photographing Clare and Craig’s wedding day, doubly so as I wanted to help them out as much as possible as Clare is a member of the CFS, who battled the huge fires at the beginning of 2019 – and are just lovely people all round. I wanted to do my part in putting some smiles on Clare and Craig’s faces and I hope they weren’t too dissapointed in not holding their large wedding, and having to postpone to a later date!

Jervois Park Wedding – Darwin – Kate & Dylan

I have never before seen such impeccable timing than Kate and Dylan’s wedding where they timed their big day the day before a major COVID lockdown in Darwin. The day itself was a typical stunnly sunny Darwin day that made their Jervois Park wedding – just south of the Darwin CBD such a wonderful experience!

Kate and Dylan’s big day was full of family fueled fun, joy and beautiful moments I was so glad to capture with both photography and videography!

Preparation

Both Kate and Dylan were prepared nearby their Jervois Park wedding venue, with Dylan in a bed and breakfast I had shot in before, and Kate in a hotel room within the CBD.

As per usual on a wedding day, small things often go wrong that just cannont be helped – in the case of Dylan’s preparation, unfortunately one of his groomsmen got on the wrong end of a chainsaw only days before the wedding was to take place! Thankfully the injury wasn’t as bad as it could have been, and he was certainly a champ powering through the rest of his mate’s big day!

The morning was fun filled, and the guys had the usual trouble tieing their ties before Mr. Youtube came along to help! A troup of male strippers also made an appearance! – More of Dylan’s mates trying to create some silly photos 🙂

Kate and her bridal party had a slightly more straightforward preparation, with plenty of makeup and hair to sort out before the ceremony. The ladies were all in good spirits and were obviously having a great time!

A highlight of the morning with the bridal party for me was the arrival of Kate’s father where we set up a bit of a first look for him seeing Kate in her dress for the first time. Always a crowd pleasing moment!

Jervois Park Wedding Ceremony

Kate and Dylan’s Jervois Park Wedding Ceremony took place inbetween a few trees, providing shade to the majority of their congregation while looking out over Darwin Harbour as a backdrop. It’s a pretty nice spot to hold a wedding ceremony – with quite a bit of parking space for guests, reasonably isolated from passers by, and still being in the center of the city!

Kate and her bridal party arrived in huge all terrain vehicles, which spoke to their affinity for the outdoors, and the ceremony itself was a simple affair with Kate and Dylan sharing personal vows, before breaking off to celebrate with guests and have family photos done.

Glamour Photos

For glamour photos, one of the main spots Kate wanted to head to were the marvellous trees located in Garden’s Park, just in front of the Darwin Botanic Gardens. The area in there provides for some stunning shots – particularly later in the day with the sun lowering and gleaming through the foliage, or the trunks of the huge trees growing here.

We then head to one of my favourite spots in Darwin for wedding photos – the East Point cliffs. Us along with 2 other wedding parties who also had the same idea! Thankfully we arrived just as one party was finishing up, so we managed to get the prime spot out on the ‘pride rock’ rock formation in time for the sunset. Unfortunately for the couple arriving after us they kind of missed out! Very popular spot!

Private Property Wedding Reception

Kate and Dylan then had a bit of a drive out to their wedding reception which was held on a pricate property out by Howard Springs. The front yard of a house was decorated with a beautiful display of fairy lights covering all the tables for guests which had also been set up.

What I found most striking from their reception setup was the beautiful tiki torches lining the entrance to the reception – really made the whole setting quite intimate and glamourous, despite the bobcat holding the drinks in it’s digger!

Kate and Dylan, I’m so glad you guys got to celebrate your big day before COVID decided to ruin anything! Thanks so much for having me as your wedding photographer at your Jervois Park wedding!
