St Laurence’s Catholic Church Wedding – Nikita & Patrick

A scorching summer day set the stage for Nikita and Patrick’s heartfelt St Laurence’s Catholic Church Wedding. The sun blazed overhead, casting a golden glow across Adelaide as these two prepared to say their vows. This wedding was especially meaningful, as I had been asked to photograph the day by Nikita’s father, a former colleague from my time teaching photography. The connection made capturing each moment even more special.

With the excitement in the air, the day unfolded beautifully, blending tradition, romance, and a touch of spontaneity. From a grand Catholic ceremony in one of Adelaide’s most stunning churches to a reception filled with love, laughter, and a shower of rose petals, every detail reflected Nikita and Patrick’s vibrant personalities.

Nikita’s Preparation

The morning buzzed with anticipation as Nikita and her bridesmaids prepared at a spacious bed and breakfast in North Adelaide. Natural light flooded through the windows, illuminating the soft pastels of their dresses as they put the finishing touches on things and shared laughs. The focus of the morning was on capturing warm, candid group shots, but there was still space to weave in some narrative storytelling—delicate hands adjusting lace, a mother’s teary-eyed smile, the final spritz of perfume before stepping into the dress.

Nikita’s gown was a masterpiece of lace and tulle, hugging her silhouette before cascading into a flowing train. Her bridesmaids gathered around, their reactions a mix of excitement and admiration. St Laurence’s Catholic Church Wedding Ceremony

St Laurence’s Catholic Church in North Adelaide is a sight to behold. The grandeur of its vaulted ceilings, warm wooden tones, and intricate stained glass makes it one of my favorite churches in the city. As guests arrived, the atmosphere inside was reverent yet filled with eager anticipation.

Patrick stood at the altar, looking dapper in his suit, exchanging glances with his groomsmen while nervously adjusting his cuffs. As the harp music swelled, Nikita made her entrance, escorted by her father, her veil flowing gracefully behind her.

The ceremony followed the structure of a traditional Catholic mass, complete with heartfelt readings, solemn vows, and communion offered to all guests. There was a palpable sense of devotion in the air, each moment steeped in meaning. The couple’s exchange of rings, a symbolic and sacred gesture, was met with quiet smiles and glistening eyes from the pews. The pronouncement of husband and wife was met with cheers, applause, and a shared joy that radiated throughout the space.

Glamour Photos

With the ceremony concluded, we set off for some breathtaking portrait shots around Adelaide. First stop—Light’s Point, overlooking the city skyline and the iconic Adelaide Oval. This spot was chosen with Patrick’s love for sports in mind, a nod to his passion woven seamlessly into their wedding memories. The light here was exquisite, bouncing off the Moreton Bay fig trees, creating dappled patterns on the ground and naturally framing the couple in a way that felt cinematic.

From there, we ventured to North Terrace, a staple location for Adelaide wedding photography. The historic architecture, stately columns, and warm sandstone provided a stunning contrast against Nikita’s flowing gown and Patrick’s sharp suit. They twirled on the steps of Bonython Hall, shared quiet moments beneath the archways, and let the city become part of their story. As the sun began its descent, the golden hour glow wrapped around them, highlighting every soft touch and stolen glance.

Arriving at the Adelaide Pavilion, the celebrations kicked off with a joyful shower of rose petals—an entrance reminiscent of a post-ceremony tradition, only this time, leading straight into the heart of the reception. Laughter echoed as guests gathered for group photos, the lush gardens serving as the perfect backdrop for candid moments.

Inside, the Pavilion was transformed into an elegant setting, tables adorned with fresh blooms and flickering candlelight. The reception unfolded with heartfelt speeches that tugged at the heartstrings, recounting stories of love, friendship, and serendipitous meetings. Nikita and Patrick’s first dance was nothing short of enchanting—soft lighting, a gentle melody, and a couple utterly lost in each other’s embrace.

Tiny House on the Prairie Wedding – Nicola & Leigh

Nicola and Leigh’s charming Tiny House on the Prairie wedding in Cudlee Creek was a celebration filled with love, laughter, and a touch of adventure. The Adelaide Hills provided the perfect backdrop for a day that was as warm in spirit as it was in temperature.

The couple chose to exchange vows in a grassy area off to the side of the property, opting for a serene tree-lined setting rather than the lake as a backdrop. This thoughtful choice allowed Nicola to make her grand entrance through the picturesque archway, walking straight up the aisle. Their fun-loving nature was evident from the start, with mini golf and other playful activities set up for guests to enjoy under the shade cloth erected by the lake.

Pre-Ceremony

Arriving early to capture the day’s unfolding moments, the atmosphere was a blend of excitement and lighthearted anticipation. Nicola and Leigh moved about, greeting family and friends, while also seeking out any hint of a breeze to keep cool. The refurbished reception space at the Tiny House on the Prairie proved invaluable, offering a comfortable refuge before the main event began.

The bridal party, buzzing with energy, shared stories and laughter as they made their final preparations. Leigh, ever the devoted footy fan, kept the mood light with his easygoing nature, sharing laughs with his groomsmen. Meanwhile, Nicola, radiant in her gown, took a quiet moment to soak in the reality of the day ahead. The joyful chaos of pre-ceremony preparations always carries a special kind of magic, and this wedding was no exception.

Despite the soaring temperatures—so hot my camera began overheating at one point—the ceremony was filled with warmth of a different kind: the kind that comes from heartfelt vows, beaming smiles, and the overwhelming support of family and friends. Short and sweet, it was the perfect length, allowing guests to retreat to the shade while Aimee and Darren basked in the joy of their first moments as husband and wife.

After the ceremony, we took full advantage of Seppeltsfield’s stunning grounds for their glamour photos. The courtyard, wrapped in a thick blanket of ivy, provided a naturally textured backdrop that looked straight out of a fairytale. Aimee and Darren, still buzzing from their vows, were naturals in front of the camera, sharing soft glances and playful moments that made capturing their love a dream.

The sun streamed through the tree-lined walkway leading to their reception space, creating a golden glow that added a cinematic quality to their portraits. Strolling beneath the trees, hand in hand, they looked every bit like a couple straight from a romance novel. We later stepped inside a charming little room for some intimate, softly lit portraits before they rejoined their guests for cocktails and mingling on the lawn.

Seppeltsfield Wines Wedding Reception

The reception took place in one of Seppeltsfield’s impressive barrel rooms, a grand space lined with towering wine barrels. Thankfully, large industrial fans kept the room (large shed) comfortable, allowing the celebration to unfold in a relaxed and lively atmosphere. The decor embraced the winery’s natural charm, with rustic wooden tables, glowing fairy lights, and an earthy colour palette that echoed the surrounding vineyards.

The speeches were a highlight of the night, each one filled with heartfelt anecdotes, humour, and well-wishes. A standout moment was one speech delivered entirely in the style of a horse racing announcer, a hilarious nod to the couple’s passion for the sport. The couple also played the ever-entertaining shoe game, providing plenty of laughs as they revealed their perspectives on married life’s little quirks.

As the evening progressed, we stole away for some sunset portraits amongst the vines. The golden light draped them in the most romantic glow, highlighting the quiet joy of the moment. With the Barossa hills stretching into the distance, it was the perfect way to capture the magic of their day.

A warm and sunlit day set the perfect scene for David and Brenton’s Adelaide Meeting Hall wedding. Nestled behind the Adelaide Town Hall and the Pilgrim Uniting Church, this charming venue, originally built in 1862, added a sense of grandeur to the occasion. Once a lecture hall and schoolroom, and even the first location of Prince Alfred College, the Meeting Hall was the ideal backdrop for a wedding that blended history, romance, and personal touches.

David and Brenton wanted a wedding that felt intimate yet grand, filled with personality and nods to their journey together. With its rich history and stately architecture, the Meeting Hall was the ideal backdrop. The warm and sunlit day made the perfect complement, allowing every moment to be bathed in natural light, enhancing the atmosphere of love and celebration. Their day was filled with thoughtful details, from a sentimental time capsule to an emotional first dance framed by dazzling fireworks. Every aspect of the day reflected their deep bond, making this wedding one to remember.

Preparation

Excitement buzzed through the air at David and Brenton’s home as the grooms and their ‘groom crew’ prepared for the day ahead. Their crew, consisting of two ladies apiece and two adorable flower girls, was all hands on deck as makeup brushes swirled and suits were fastened. Laughter and the occasional flurry of last-minute preparations filled the space.

Their beloved cats played a starring role, adding an extra level of cuteness to the preparations. Both grooms proudly donned custom suit lapels featuring tiny cat buttons—a sweet nod to their feline family members. A highlight of the morning was the grand reveal of the suits to the rest of the wedding party. Gasps, cheers, and maybe even a few happy tears set the tone for the heartfelt moments to come.
