Prepare for Your Wedding Consultation With These Easy Steps

The amount of time and thought you spend on every element of your wedding should be the same as what you put into choosing the ideal photographer. After all, these creatives are the ones capturing your special day and everything you’ve worked so hard to create.

If you are hiring a professional wedding photographer—which you should—it is essential to meet the person who will capture one of the most important days of your life. Doing so ensures both you and your photographer get along and can work together to get the beautiful shots you’re dreaming of!

Prepare for Your Wedding Consultation With These Easy Steps

We have put together some pointers below to help you prepare for your wedding consultation with your photographer:

  1. Bring Along a Notepad

Make sure you have a pen and paper handy so you can go over what you have talked about. If you prefer taking digital notes, a digital notepad will work, too! It’s easy to let the excitement carry you away and cause a few or more details to slip through the cracks. Take plenty of notes so you can look over what you discussed, especially if you’ll be comparing different wedding photography packages.

Signing the guest book
  1. Prepare to Potentially Put Some Money Down

If you end up falling in love with the photographer and want to secure them for your wedding date, prepare to potentially pay a deposit to secure their photography services. The best photgoraphers book out months or years in advance – so it’s best to lock whomever you like the best as soon as possible.

  1. Outline a List of Questions

The consultation is the perfect time to ask all the questions you may be wondering. Bring them along with your notepad so you cover all your bases.

Take the meeting as an opportunity to look over the photographer’s previous prints, albums, and canvases. This may prompt new questions and ideas you hadn’t considered before. You might even discover some styles and poses you didn’t add to your inspiration board before! Speaking of inspiration boards…

  1. Build an Inspiration Board Ahead of Time

Is there an incredible shot you feel inspired by or a photography style you’d like to see in your wedding photos? Most couples do, which is why it’s valuable to build an inspiration board ahead of time. pintrest is purpose built for just such a list. This not only allows you to determine if they are a good fit for you but also lets the photographer get a sense of your personality and style.

Do not be scared to offer requests or recommendations. Most photographers enjoy working with couples that have a lot of unique ideas. That being said, keep in mind that photographers typically already have a distinct creative style. If you’re looking for light, dreamy wedding photos, someone who specializes in dramatic editorial-style shots may not be the best fit! You’ll get the best results if your vision is somewhat aligned with the styles they have worked with in the past.

  1. Review the Photographer’s Full Portfolio

An excellent way of understanding your potential photographer’s wedding photography style is asking to see past weddings they have shot. Most photographers have an online portfolio, but some are also able to bring along wedding albums that will offer you a sense of how and what they shoot.

I personally try to show an entire wedding shot hopefully at the same wedding venue a couple is planning on holding their wedding at when I meet up with a new couple!

One last piece of advice: Do not be afraid to ask questions. You want to make sure you are hiring the best photographer for your wedding day. Inquire about the way they plan wedding shoot days, how they manage problems or handle cancellations, what equipment they use, and so on.

Are You Ready for Your Wedding Consultation?

If you have read your way down here to find wedding photography services in Adelaide, we have got you covered! Sven Studios can help capture the magic of your special day. StFrancis Winery Wedding – Bronwyn & Dayne

It was an incredibly sunny day for Bronwyn and Dayne’s StFrancis Winery wedding in late November!

Their day was full of fun filled hijinks curtesy of their bridal party and plenty of naughty water refreshments all throughout the day.

Their day was a bunch of fun to be a part of, so lets jump right into it!

Preparation

Bronwyn and Dayne were obviously up for a party right from the get go, with their respective entourages keen to have a bit of fun during their preparations! Dayne and his boys made sure to keep most of their body parts within their pants all morning, while we also made sure their delightful fur babies made it into plenty of their photos.

I arrived at Bronywn’s place of preparation to the beat of plenty of loud music! The bridesmaids were keen to dance about all morning, while also making sure Bronwyn wasn’t feeling too much in the way of nerves – as much as possible!

StFrancis Winery Wedding Ceremony

Bronwyn and her bridal party arrived at their StFrancis Winery wedding ceremony via large hummer limo, and directly after had a bit of a ‘first look’ with Bronwyn’s family – which is always nice to see.

Their wedding ceremony was delayed a little bit due to guests being a little late, but bronwyn and her bridesmaids made the most of their time having a smoke and chilling under the shade, while Dayne and his boys also made sure to find some shade while having photos done with family and friends.

Dayne was in good spirits all day, being sure to make it known with huge emotive smile and laughter, while Bronwyn was a little more reserved. The ceremony itself was a nice, simple affair – being as short as possible so that the party could continue unabated!

Glamour Photos

We diddn;t spend too long out and about for glamour photos – the main goal of the day for Bronwyn and Dayne was to spend as much time with their friends and family as possible! before their limo hire ended, I did however managed to get them out to the nearby bike track which has magnificent arching trees overhead. I made use of this space the most for their glamour photos – while I also snagged a few shots around St Francis Winery in between drinks.

I made use of the extra time by taking some portraits of other couples and also had family photos done whenever I could. It was such a laid back day that it wasn’t overly pressing to have any photos taken.

StFrancis Winery Wedding Reception

Bronwyn and Dayne’s StFrancis winery wedding reception was immaculately set up in the most beautiful way, with blue lighting and white floral arrangements as far as the eye could see! Their DJ had the smoke machine going during the first dance and made for a great party atmosphere.

Towards the end of the night, I managed to coax Bronwyn and Dayne out to the awesome lit weeping willows that lines the St Francis winery pond – which the boys were threatening jumping into all night. If they did I must have left too early to see it! Would have been a greast photo 🙂

15 Essential Wedding Photos to Take During Your Celebration

Every spouse-to-be knows that wedding photos are one of the most crucial parts of the ceremony, as it captures the magic of the event and memorialises it forever.

To make sure you have a wedding album full of stunning shots and beautifully captured candid moments, it might help to have a list of must-have essential wedding photos in your mind to talk about with your wedding photographer.

To do this, look for a wedding photographer that is excited to discuss your ideas. You can then consult with them on the wedding shots that other couples ask them to do, giving you more concepts to consider. Together, you can put a list of your must-have wedding photos, ensuring they record each memorable minute and allow you to relive your special day several years later.

15 Essential Wedding Photos

Here are fifteen essential wedding photos to take during your celebration:

  • The Invitations

The first few wedding photos that many don’t think of are shots of your invitation suite. Most photographers will shoot them on the day of the wedding, think of this shot as something that won’t necessarily be hung on the wall, but more to remember something you agonised over for hours prior to your day.

It’s best to talk to your photographer about what you want out of this moment and if you want extra details, like flowers and other decorations, to be included in the photo.

  • The Getting Ready Montage

One of the most memorable wedding photos involves the getting ready moments, such as when the bride (and even groom) have their hair and makeup done. If you have an elaborate hairpiece, you’ll want to have a few photos of it. Include a shot of your maid of honour zipping you up in your dress, a picture of your wedding shoes, and other aspects you want to be immortalised in your wedding album.

  • The Accessories

Traditional weddings involve the bride wearing something old, new, borrowed, and blue. It’s a great idea to take photos of these, given the careful consideration you put into choosing the perfect items for your special day.

Wedding History – Why Do We Throw Confetti at Weddings?

There are plenty of ways to welcome the bride and groom to their new life as a married couple. Besides standing up and giving them a round of applause, one of the most popular ways to recognize the union is by throwing confetti. However, how did this practice come about? and why do we thow confetti at weddings? Or failing that rose petals, or bubbles or even leaves?

Why Do We Throw Confetti at Weddings? – History

This practice was actually something that began in Italian weddings two centuries ago. Nobles used to throw candies and flowers during the parades while dames threw eggshells filled with essences and perfumes. In Italian “confetti” is actually not what you throw at celebrations; the term itself refers to candy-coated almonds that you hand to guests as party favours – Also known as dragée or comfit. The thing you throw is called “coriandoli.” The English language simply adapted the term despite being a misnomer.

The throwing of confetti relates somewhat to the act of throwing rice at a wedding. This is a tradition that is still being practised to this day for couples that want a family. It is a symbol of fertility and luck for the couple as parents.

The first paper confetti was produced for the Carnivale di Milano with the intention of celebrating joyous occasions. The British then adapted this and introduced it to a wedding in 1875.

Throwing confetti is laced in a rich history of taking inspiration from one culture and adapting it to a new one. Wedding traditions from various cultures around the world have overlapped and combined and intertwined to such a degree that it’s not unheard of to see confetti in weddings around the world.

Carnaval de Nice confetti battle with colorful costumes and festive architecture.
Why Do We Throw Confetti at Weddings?

It’s Fun!

Confetti was meant to bring life to celebrations and memorable festivities, so why can’t it be at a wedding? The bright colours of confetti celebrate joy and can make the ceremony more beautiful.

Some of it will get on your hair, the veil, the dress, and the suit, but that is not really something to worry about. Seeing your spouse’s suit or dress covered in it can bring a big smile to your face, which is always a great thing when you leave the aisle together as newlyweds.

It Makes Great Wedding Photographs

It’s okay to think about how the photos will turn out. Confetti brings a great visual element to your photos, bringing in bright specs of vibrant colours into the frame. Many liken the confetti to petals falling from the sky, especially when beautiful colours are chosen.

Getting good shots with confetti in the air will be tricky. It’s probably not something that your friend with no photography experience can capture on their phone. To make sure that these come out right and perhaps even more stunning than you would ever imagine, you need a professional photographer to do the job for you on the day of the ceremony.

Bridal exit
Bridal exit

Confetti is however not great for the Earth as it’s often made of plastic, or coloured paper that will not biodegrade well – so many wedding venues will actually charge a cleanup fee in order to allow the use of confetti or not allow it at all! Some environmentally friendly alternatives include rose petals, gumleaves that have been hole punched, bubbles, or if at night time, sparklers!

Whatever reason you want to have confetti at your wedding is valid. It’s a fun idea that is laced in many great customs that anyone can adopt to make their wedding day special. It’s a celebration of love and great joy, so go ahead and incorporate it into the ceremony if you want to. The wedding photos after will be filled with amazing colours as you walk up the aisle as newlyweds.

Ingle wood Inn Wedding – Stephanie & Ben

Stephanie and Ben’s Ingle Wood Inn wedding was held on a beautiful day late November. The weather wasn’t hot, nor cold and the clouds stayed at just the right times and left at others – it really was quite a stunning day to be a part of!

As a wedding venue, the Inglewood Inn is one of my favourite spots to head to. It boasts a surprisingly diverse set of photo opportunities while still being quite a private and intimate spot for some spectatular wedding ceremonies – particularly during the summer!

Preparation

I started the say with Ben and his family being prepared at a nearby house on a lovely quiet street which we made use of with Ben’s brother’s little motorcycle which he seemd pretty proud of!

The preparation was nice and laid back with Ben’s mother and father stepping in occasionally to help with ties and pinning flowers on lapels. If Ben was nervous – he was hiding it well!

Stephanie was being prepared at the couple’s house – also nearby and the first thing I did when arriving was to convince Stephanie to hang her dress up int he small forested area right out he front of their house. Thankfully she let me without much fuss, as it was a stunning spot to make use of for a hanging dress photo!

Stephanie and her bridesmaid also had a bit of fun with a bottle of champaigne before doing a bit of a reveal to Dad who had not seen the dress on Stephanie until that morning. It’s always lovely to see!

Ingle wood Inn Wedding Ceremony

Stephanie and Ben’s Ingle Wood Inn Wedding ceremony took place on the grassy area before the Inn building – where it’s usually held, but perhaps slightly to the right of where it’s often set up. This allowed for the forested area to be the backdrop behind their modern hexagonal arbour which looked quite stunning!

The ceremony began with Ben looking away from where Stephanie was entering, allowing for a proper ‘first look’ as she walked down the aisle as he turned around. Then continued with anecdotes of ther relationship until that point and culminated with a simple exchanging of rings and first kiss.

Glamour Photos

Stephanie and Ben’s Ingle wood inn wedding was an absolute blast to photograph. The weather was overcast – but not cold, and the sun shone through the clouds just at the right times in order to best use it’s presence felt in their photographs!

Directly after their ceremony, and after the big group shot which we took with their bridal car before it left we made use of the oldest bridge still in use in South Australia – Gollop’s Bridge. It’s a mainstay of photos at any Ingle wood Inn wedding, and we certainly made the most of it with Stephanie’s awesome long veil hanging over the ledge!

We also made good use of the greenery and running creek situated behind the wedding ceremony location so some stunning shots as the sun dipped lower and lower.

It was common up until recently to have access to a little ruined cottage just up the road a bit from Inglewood Inn as a backdrop for photos, but the owner no longer allows it’s use for that so we had to travel a little further up the road. Thankfully Stephanie and Ben were quite adventurous and were keen to climb a bit of a hill to get a neat shot of them on a cliff with Inglewood Inn in the background.

While climbing down however I manged to slip and fall on my main camera :/ oh well that’s what insurance is for!

Later in the evening we also head back out to Gallop Bridge in the dark to make use of some smoke in a can and lights!

Stephanie and Ben’s reception was full of delightful people having a great time celebrating the occasion. I had a marvellous chat with a grandparent whom I was sitting with on one of the tables and I was made quite at home all night – which makes my job so much easier and enjoyable for everyone involved!
