Capturing Kaitlyn and Dan’s Beach Road Wines wedding was an extraordinary experience, especially as it unfolded on a unique, rain-drenched day in December. This was one of those rare Adelaide moments, where the rain simply decided to take center stage all day long. Nestled in the heart of McLaren Vale, Beach Road Wines offered a romantic and cozy backdrop for this special occasion. Despite the unexpected weather, the charm and warmth of the venue shone through, setting the stage for a memorable celebration.

The day was filled with love, laughter, and a few raindrops, but nothing could dampen the spirits of this delightful couple. As a wedding photographer often in McLaren Vale, I’ve seen my share of weather challenges, but Kaitlyn and Dan’s wedding was a testament to the magic that can happen when you embrace the unexpected. Preparation

The day kicked off with Dan and his groomsmen getting ready at Oxenberry Farm. Navigating through the rain, I found myself at the wrong cottage initially, but a quick call from Dan set me on the right path. The guys were a breeze to work with, quickly suiting up in their dapper attire, their camaraderie and excitement palpable. They shared jokes and laughter, creating a relaxed and jovial atmosphere that was a pleasure to photograph.

Despite the weather playing tricks on us, the preparation phase for Dan and his groomsmen was smooth and full of light-hearted moments. Their ease in front of the camera allowed me to capture some candid and natural shots, reflecting the genuine bond they shared. It was a fantastic start to what promised to be an unforgettable day at Beach Road Wines.

Kaitlyn and her bridal party were getting ready at a beautiful bed and breakfast in Carrickalinga, overlooking the bay. The property was stunning, a perfect setting for bridal preparations, even with the rain limiting our use of the outdoor spaces. However, the indoor setting turned out to be just as enchanting, with the intimate space beautifully decorated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for Kaitlyn and Dan’s vows.

As Kaitlyn and her bridal party arrived in their charming combi, the excitement was palpable. The ceremony was heartfelt and beautifully simple, with each moment filled with emotion and love. The morning air was crisp, filled with anticipation and the sweet scent of blooming gardens surrounding Partridge House. The venue, renowned for its majestic aura, was buzzing with excitement. It was here, under the whispering leaves of ancient trees and the soft glow of the Australian sun, that Bec and Matt chose to begin their forever.

Preparation

The day kicked off with Matt and his groomsmen in a stylish modern townhouse near Glenelg. The place was a photographer’s delight with its clean, straight lines and contemporary decor, providing a striking contrast to the traditional wedding vibe. Matt, cool and collected, shared laughs and a bit of cheeky banter with his mates, making for candid, joyful shots.

Meanwhile, a fair distance away, near Gawler, Bec and her bridal party were in the midst of their own preparation rituals. The setting was Bec’s parents’ house, a picturesque location with all the charm you’d expect from a family home steeped in love and memories. The house, with its lovely porches and elegant hallways, was the perfect backdrop for capturing Bec’s transformation into a bride.

The air was thick with excitement as Bec, surrounded by her closest friends and family, stepped into her magnificent dress. The image of her wedding gown hanging from the porch, bathed in the soft morning light, was a sight to behold. We then proceeded to take some glamour shots of the newlyweds. The contrast of the elegant bridal attire against the natural beauty of the gardens and the old-world charm of the historic house created some truly spectacular images. These moments, filled with laughter and love, were a testament to Bec and Matt’s wonderful chemistry.

We made a little time to stop by Bottega Geleteria on Jetty road, which was where ths lovely couple had one of their first dates – which I thought was rather special!

We also made sure to make use of the Grand Bar and of course the Grand staircase on show within the Stamford Grand before heading up for the reception for a few more traditional scenes.

Stamford Grand Reception

The Stamford Grand is a venue that exudes luxury and grandeur. The ballroom, with its opulent decor and ambient lighting, was the perfect setting for a night of celebration. The reception was a lively affair, filled with heartwarming speeches, delicious food, and plenty of dancing.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the first dance, complete with fireworks – a spectacular display that lit up the room and the hearts of everyone present. The couple’s happiness was infectious, spreading throughout the room as they twirled and danced under the sparkling lights. The night was a beautiful blend of elegance, joy, and unbridled celebration, marking the perfect end to a perfect day.

Pt Noarlunga Family Shoot

Capturing the essence of family is an art form, and as a Southern Adelaide Photographer, I had the joy of embarking on a Pt Noarlunga Family Shoot. The day couldn’t have been more perfect for photography, with the sun casting a warm, golden hue across the sands. Pt Noarlunga, renowned for its picturesque scenery and the vibrancy of Onkaparinga, was buzzing with life. It’s a popular spot during the Christmas and New Year’s break, drawing crowds eager to soak up the sun and the festive spirit. But, not to worry – my trusty Photoshop skills came in handy to ensure that the focus remained solely on the delightful family I was photographing.

The decision to choose Pt Noarlunga beach was thoughtful, considering the accessibility for grandma and grandpa. The proximity to the boat ramp made it easier for them to be close to the water, an aspect that added a serene backdrop to our photoshoot. Under the jetty, we found ourselves in a different world – the crisscrossing wooden beams above created a beautiful pattern, adding a unique texture to the pictures. It was like capturing moments in a hidden treasure of Adelaide.

Photographing each individual family, the kids together, and the parents, I witnessed the bond that tied them all together. The laughter, the shared glances, and the unspoken love were palpable. It was fascinating to see how each family had its own dynamic and personality, which I aimed to bring out in each photograph. The children, especially, were a delight to work with. Their unbridled energy and innocence were infectious, making the shoot not just a job but a genuinely enjoyable experience.

The two older boys had a spark of creativity in them. They wanted to incorporate a bit of fantasy into their shoot. And what better way to do this than with a Star Wars-themed lightsaber duel? The boys brandished their imaginary lightsabers, and with a bit of post-production magic, I brought their battle to life. These moments of playful imagination are what make family shoots so special – they’re not just about capturing faces but also about capturing spirits and dreams.

Of course, every shoot has its challenges. The bright sun, while perfect for a day out, can be a photographer’s nemesis. Squinting eyes are often unavoidable, but with a bit of positioning and timing, I managed to capture everyone with their best, sun-kissed faces forward. The key, I find, in such situations is to keep the mood light and fun. It’s amazing how a good laugh can relax the eyes and bring out natural smiles.

Building a rapport with a family you’ve just met is no small feat, especially when you’re seen as the “wierdo” with the camera. But, part of the joy in what I do lies in breaking down those initial barriers. By engaging with the family, cracking jokes, and sometimes making a fool of myself, I ensure everyone feels comfortable. It’s these little moments of connection that allow me to capture the family in their most natural and relaxed state.
