Decoding the Glamour: Wedding Photography Costs

Planning a wedding is like choreographing a grand ballet, and guess who’s taking center stage? Your wedding photographer! There is no other vendor that is going to have as much of an influence on your big day than your photographer. They are the one you’ll be with all day, and choosing the right one for you is incredibly important. But with all those dollar signs flashing, you might be wondering, “Why so pricey?” Let’s shed some light on this shall we?

1. How much do you expect to pay for a wedding photographer in Adelaide?

Adelaide, with its charming streets and romantic sunsets, is a dream for wedding photos. As a photographer based in Adelaide, Adelaide has a surprisingly diverse set of scenery that can cater to almost any type of wedding – from a medieval castle in the Adelaide Hills through to grungey industrial backdrops throughout Port Adelaide.

Depending on your photographer’s experience, style, and offerings, you could be looking at anywhere from $1,500 to $6,000 just for the coverage. On average, most couples set aside around $2,500 to $4,000. But here’s the inside scoop: it’s not just about the price. It’s about the memories, the moments, and the magic. These figures are taken from ABIA’s State of the wedding industry report.

Diving into the specifics, all photographers offer different wedding photography packages. Some might include pre-wedding shoots, while others might throw in a lovely album. And then there are those extra hours, second photographers, and even photobooths! It’s like picking your wedding dress; you’ve got to find the one that fits just right.

2. How much is a wedding photographer in Australia?

The average spend on wedding photography throughout Australia hovers between $2,500 to $4,500. So Adelaide tends to be a little cheaper, while cities like Sydney or Melbourne might have you reaching deeper into your pockets when it comes to wedding photography costs.

But here’s a little secret: it’s not just about the city or the backdrop. It’s about the story each photographer tells. Their unique style, their approach, and the way they see love. So, while you’re counting pennies, also count the moments you want to be captured.

We now have the ability to view work of wedding phtoographers from all over the world through platforms such as instagram, so dont think you’d be stuck with only wedding photographers from your local area! If you admire and are in love with the work from a photographer in Paruguay (for example) reach out and have them travel to you! We have travelled quite a bit for destination weddings and the cost of bringing in someone you love may well be more cost effective than you think!

Choosing the right photographer for you is something that really should make the price consideration be as low as possible on the list of considerations. The only thing you’ll have as a result of this incredible day that you’re planning are your memories, and your photos are physical representations of these. It’s an investment in your future wellbeing and your ability to look back and remember your incredible day. If you go cheap, then you may lose out on that.

3. Is it normal to pay for a wedding photographer?

In a word? Absolutely! Your wedding photographer is like that fairy godmother who captures every magical moment. And magic, my dear, comes with a price. Beyond the day itself, think of the hours of editing, the equipment, and the expertise. It’s not just about clicking a camera; it’s about capturing a feeling.

Behind every photo is a story. The nervous glance before the first look, the tear in your parent’s eye, the laughter during the speeches. Your photographer is there, blending into the background, ensuring every emotion is immortalized.

Having a wedding photographer that is worth their expense and one who you trust ensures you capture your entire story.

4. Why is wedding photography so expensive?

Alright, time for some real talk. Wedding photography is an art. It’s about seeing the unseen, capturing the fleeting, and telling a story that lasts a lifetime. Now, add the top-tier equipment, the latest software, and the hours spent perfecting each image. Plus, there’s the business side of things – insurance, taxes, studio space, and more.

But here’s the golden nugget: these photos are forever. They’re the ones you’ll pull out on rainy days, the ones you’ll show your grandkids, the ones that’ll transport you back in time. So, while the price tag might seem hefty now, the memories? They’re priceless.

If you think about it, wedding photographers make a living from their weddings, which usually take place on a Saturday – thats around 52-odd client-contact days a year. Not many people are married in winter so that custs things down to around 30-40.

I know my personal equipment I take to a wedding hovers around the ~$40k mark in value, and then as mentioned there are the other costs and time taken editing and actually running the business.

It’s the best job in the world, but it’s very demanding on time 🙂

5. Tips for Choosing the Right Photographer for Your Budget

Budgeting for a wedding is like a dance, and you want to make sure every dollar twirls in the right direction. When it comes to photography, start by researching. Look at portfolios, read reviews, and maybe even meet a few photographers for coffee. Understand what’s included in their packages and what might cost extra.

Remember, it’s not just about the wedding photography costs. It’s about the connection. You want someone who gets your vision, understands your love story, and can capture it in a way that feels authentically you.

We like to sit down with each couple who are considering us to be their wedding photographers and have a bit of a chat to find out what makes them smile. Developing a connection with your photographers not only is important to feel comfortable, but it also dgoes a long way to creating awesome photos.

Weddings are a whirlwind of emotions, moments, and memories. And at the heart of it all is your love story. While budgeting for wedding photography costs, remember that you’re investing in memories. So, find that perfect photographer, strike a pose (or not as the case my be), and let the magic unfold!

The Manor Basket Range Wedding – Lisandra & Andrew

We are pretty exicited to share the enchanting love story of Lisandra and Andrew as they tied the knot at the magnificent Manor in Basket Range, Adelaide Hills. Their Manor Basket Range wedding was truly a fairytale come to life, and I can’t wait to take you on this delightful journey filled with love, laughter, and a touch of nerdy charm!

Preparation

A medieval castle with a touch of modern elegance – that’s the Manor in Basket Range for you! This breathtaking wedding venue set the stage for Lisandra’s bridal preparations, and it was nothing short of magical. As I entered the main keep of the castle, I found Lisandra surrounded by her wonderful bridesmaids, all giggles and excitement.

Lisandra looked absolutely radiant as she got ready for her big day. Her gown was a vision of lace and tulle, making her look like a princess straight out of a storybook. But what really made her preparations special were the customs they incorporated from the Nordic Astaru traditions. Offering mead and having a wedding sword added a unique and playful touch, making it an experience to remember for everyone involved!

Andrew, and his gang of groomsmen were being prepared in one of the far rooms of the hotel area. The atmosphere in their room was full of camaraderie with a healthy dose of nerdiness. With references to Warhammer 40k and Dragon Ball Z flying around, it was clear that these guys knew how to have a good time!

As a fellow Warhammer 40k enthusiast, I couldn’t help but join in the fun (and secretly wish they’d give me some pro tips on the game!). Andrew looked dapper in his suit, and his excitement was palpable as he eagerly awaited the moment he would see his beautiful bride walking down the aisle.

The Manor Basket Range Wedding Ceremony

Their ceremony took place in front of the main castle keep, and it was an awe-inspiring sight. The love between Lisandra and Andrew was so evident as they exchanged their heartfelt vows in the presence of their closest family and friends.

Their ceremony included numerous, meaningful moments, including a welcome to country performed by a member of the family, the bridal party being lead by Andrew’s best man – (who really took his job seriously!), the offering of mead and a hand fasting ceremony.

Even after covering numerous weddings at the Manor, this was the first time the ceremony took place not in front of the little chapel, and it was a refreshing change! The grand castle provided a majestic backdrop that elevated the entire experience to a whole new level of romance.

Glamour Photos

After the heartwarming ceremony and a round of group photos, it was time for some glamour shots! We took full advantage of the castle grounds, and the bridal party was an absolute blast to work with. They were all game for some fun and adventurous poses, and the photos turned out to be nothing short of stunning!

The nearby orchard and gardens added a touch of natural beauty to the pictures. Lisandra and Andrew’s love shone through in every shot, making my job as their photographer an absolute joy.

The Manor Basket Range Wedding Reception

As the sun set, and the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, it was time to head indoors for the reception in the lower reception area of the castle. The rain made a fashionable appearance, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the guests one bit! It turned into a cozy and intimate affair, perfect for celebrating the newlyweds.

The night was filled with impromptu speeches, laughter, and non-stop dancing. Lisandra and Andrew’s friends and family knew how to have a good time, and the energy was infectious! It was truly a night to remember, and I felt so fortunate to capture every moment of their special day.

Belair Train Station Engagement shoot – Melody & Chris

Melody and Chris had an unforgettable engagement shoot at the picturesque Belair Train Station, nestled in the heart of the mesmerizing Adelaide Hills. With the sun just starting to rise, casting a golden glow on everything it touched, the couple was ready to capture their love story in the most dreamy and picturesque way possible.

Belair Train Station Engagement shoot

Picture this: a crisp, golden sunrise casting its magic over the serene Adelaide Hills, and a couple so in love, they couldn’t stop beaming! Melody and Chris were all set to capture their love story in the most dreamy and picturesque way possible. I had suggested either the soft, romantic light just before sunset or the breathtaking glow of sunrise, and to my delight, Melody chose the latter! And let me tell you, it was the perfect decision!

As the first rays of the sun painted the sky in shades of pink and orange, we found ourselves at the Belair Train Station, and the scene was straight out of a fairytale! There was a group of passionate volunteers gathering to restore a piece of history, and their presence added a touch of rustic charm to the backdrop. We couldn’t resist taking a few shots in front of the station, with the old-world architecture adding a vintage vibe to the photos.

But wait, the adventure didn’t stop there! Just a stone’s throw away from the station lies the enchanting Belair National Park, and it’s a little-known hidden gem entrance to the national park that I love heading into. The misty morning in the park created an almost ethereal atmosphere, with sunlight filtering through the majestic gum trees. It felt like stepping into a magical wonderland!

Amongst the gum trees, Melody and Chris shared heartfelt moments, their love shining brighter than the sun itself. The beauty of nature seemed to mirror their connection, and every snapshot we took was filled with pure joy and affection. With each click of the camera, their love story unfolded beautifully, leaving us all in awe.

Unexpected Adventures

As we were wrapping up our shoot and bidding farewell to the restoration volunteers, one of them extended a warm invitation to explore the old train station’s control room. And that was quite exciting! The control room was like a time machine, filled with fascinating knobs and levers, preserving the heritage of the railways.

As the shoot came to a close, Melody and Chris were radiant with happiness. Their engagement shoot at the Belair Train Station and Belair National Park had been an adventure of love, laughter, and unexpected surprises. The couple’s decision to embrace the sunrise light had paid off big time, as the photos radiated with a golden glow that matched their love-filled spirits.

Love is a beautiful journey, and this engagement shoot was a perfect reminder of that. It’s about finding joy in the little things, the unexpected moments, and the unbreakable bond that two souls share. Melody and Chris had embarked on a wonderful journey together, and we were lucky enough to capture a glimpse of their everlasting love.

Good luck to Melody and Chris for their marriage in Hong Kong! and thankyou for having me shoot your Belair Train Station Engagement shoot! I’d me more than willing to put my hand up and come along as your destination wedding photographer! Just let me know and I’ll be there!

Mt Lofty House Wedding – Regan & Adam

Regan and Adam’s Adelaide Hills wedding was truly a day to remember, filled with stunning views, aviation-themed puns, and lots of love. As their chosen Adelaide wedding videographers and photographers, we had the pleasure of capturing every magical moment of this special day. But as a bit of fun, we also added a touch of vintage charm with a super 8 camera to create a unique wedding video experience. Let’s dive into the delightful details of Regan and Adam’s wedding celebration!

We had the pleasure of creating a vintage wedding video for Regan and Adam. With the nostalgic charm of a super 8 camera, we added a touch of whimsy and enchantment to their wedding memories. It was an exciting departure from the ordinary, resulting in a one-of-a-kind wedding video that perfectly complemented their special day.

Preparation

The day began with Adam and his groomsmen getting ready in their room at the wonderful Mt Lofty House, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Adelaide Hills. Both the groomsmen and the bridal party were being perpared along the same wing of the hotel, so we made the use of the situation by sticking the drone up for a quick photo of the two groups during their preparation!

As an aviation enthusiast, Adam’s preparation was filled with playful pilot jokes and puns, adding a fun and light-hearted atmosphere to the morning. The excitement was palpable as the groomsmen made sure Adam looked his absolute best, ensuring every tie was perfectly straight and every hair was in place.

Amidst the laughter and camaraderie, Adam took a moment to reflect on the significance of the day. His nerves mingled with anticipation as he prepared to marry the love of his life. It was a truly special and heartwarming scene, capturing the essence of love and friendship that would permeate the entire day.

Canadian Great Lakes Couples Shoot – Maria & Nick

As a destination wedding photographer, capturing the beauty of love in the great outdoors is always an incredible experience. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph Maria and Nick, a lovely couple, amidst the stunning Canadian Rockies. The great lakes region of Canada offers some of the most breathtaking backdrops for couples’ photoshoots. We made use of a few locations that showcased the natural beauty of the area.

Canadian Great Lakes Couples Shoot Locations

First, we headed to a lake in front of the Three Sisters mountains, which are a trio of peaks in the Canadian Rockies. Our aim was to use the Three Sisters as the backdrop for the photoshoot, however, the weather had other plans, and the clouds covered the mountains when we arrived.

Instead, we decided to focus on a nearby forest and field. We captured some amazing photos of Maria and Nick amidst the natural surroundings. But, just when we thought the weather wouldn’t clear up, the clouds opened up to reveal the stunning vista of the Three Sisters. We quickly got Maria and Nick to run through the grassy fields again, and we were able to capture some incredible shots with the mountains in the background.

Next, we headed to the Canmore Grand Rockies Hotel for lunch. The hotel is an architectural masterpiece nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. We couldn’t resist having Maria put on her wedding dress for a few photos in front of an intricately designed floral arrangement. The hotel’s elegant ambiance and stunning architecture provided a perfect backdrop for the photoshoot. Maria and Nick looked breathtaking, and we were able to capture some beautiful moments.

Our final destination was the picturesque Lake Louise, known for its turquoise blue waters and stunning views. As we were taking photos, it was not uncommon for passersby to ask if we were photographing someone famous, as Maria and Nick certainly looked the part. The highlight of the day was when Nick burst open a bottle of champagne in front of the incredible Lake Louise vista. It was the perfect way to end the day and celebrate their love.

Three Sisters

The Three Sisters mountains are a majestic sight to behold. Maria and Nick’s photoshoot in front of the Three Sisters was nothing short of incredible. The weather added an element of surprise to the photoshoot, just as is was with Sydney and Dan’s photoshoot, the clouds covered the mountains when we arrived.

However, we were able to capture some stunning photos of the couple amidst the natural surroundings of the forest and field nearby. When the clouds finally cleared, we were able to get some amazing shots with the Three Sisters in the background. The Three Sisters provided a breathtaking backdrop for the photoshoot, and the photos turned out stunning.

Lake Louise

Lake Louise is one of the most stunning locations in the Canadian Rockies. The turquoise blue waters of the lake and the surrounding mountains provided a perfect backdrop for Maria and Nick’s photoshoot. As we were taking photos, it was not uncommon for passersby to ask if we were photographing someone famous, as Maria and Nick certainly looked the part. We were able to capture some stunning shots of the couple in front of the lake and the mountains.

The highlight of our Canadian Great Lakes Couples Shoot was undoubtedly our visit to Lake Louise. The lake is known for its mesmerizing turquoise waters that reflect the surrounding mountains, creating a stunning view that leaves you speechless. When Maria and Nick stepped out in their perfectly coordinated outfits, it was a sight to behold. It wasn’t uncommon for passing tourists to ask us if we were photographing someone famous. They certainly looked the part!

We started by walking around the lake and taking some photos on the lakeshore, where the water was so clear that you could see the rocks at the bottom. Maria and Nick were naturals in front of the camera, and their love for each other was palpable. The light was perfect, and the couple looked absolutely radiant. I took a few photos from different angles, and Nick surprised us all by bursting open a bottle of champagne. It was a magical moment, and I captured it all on camera.

As we wrapped up the shoot, we all stood in awe of the natural beauty that surrounded us.

Looking back on the photoshoots, I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a wonderful couple in such breathtaking locations. The Three Sisters, Canmore Grand Rockies Hotel, and Lake Louise provided the perfect backdrop for Maria and Nick’s Canadian Great Lakes Couples Shoot, and I’m thrilled to have been able to capture it all on camera. I hope these photos will serve as a lasting reminder of their love and the incredible scenery that they were able to experience together.
