We took full advantage of the outdoor lounge area, the shimmering hotel pool, and the breezy restaurant terrace overlooking the gardens. The whole space gave off a luxurious but relaxed feel – perfectly balancing the nerves and excitement that filled the air.

Nicole and Arlen’s ceremony was a beautiful example of less being more. Post-ceremony, we headed deeper into the gardens for glamour shots, and the light was just dreamy. That late-afternoon sun filtered through the trees in all the right ways. We made a beeline for some of my favourite spots – the iconic line of elm trees leading up to the Friendship Gates is always a must. The couple strolled hand-in-hand, their silhouettes dancing across the path as golden light kissed the edges of the frame.
Of course, we couldn’t resist a stop by what I affectionately call the “Dr. Seuss tree” near the heritage-listed glasshouse – it always brings a bit of whimsy and quirk to the gallery. Nicole’s veil caught the breeze perfectly, and Arlen, ever the gentleman, helped guide it back down between laughs. The couple had such an easy, affectionate way with each other – nothing forced, just genuine chemistry captured against a fairytale backdrop.

As the sun dipped lower, it was time to shift gears from serene to celebratory. Nicole and Arlen chose The Herringbone in the city for their reception – and what an inspired choice it was. The venue oozes charm with its intimate courtyard, complete with a gorgeous tree growing right in the centre. Fairy lights wound around its trunk, casting a warm glow that made everything feel effortlessly romantic.
I didn’t stay too long into the evening, so I missed out on any formalities like speeches or a first dance. The vibe was beautifully understated, almost like a relaxed dinner party shared with close friends. Guests chatted freely, enjoying good company and great food in the intimate courtyard. The setting itself, with its cosy ambiance, carried the mood effortlessly. It was calm, genuine, and perfectly in tune with Nicole and Arlen’s laid-back style.

There’s no bigger compliment in this line of work than being chosen by someone who truly understands the wedding world inside and out.
Preparation
Both Sharon and Mark began their morning in serene style at the luxurious Sequoia Lodge, right next door to Mt Lofty House. Their suite overlooked the misty valleys below, and they were treated to a sunrise that painted the hills in soft pinks and oranges—pure early-morning magic. There’s something so peaceful about getting ready in the same space, especially when you’re sharing coffee and pre-wedding giggles rather than nervous pacing in separate rooms.
Of course, no wedding day goes entirely to plan. Overnight, Sharon had received some concerning news about her dad’s health, and understandably, there were some anxious moments. But she handled it with the poise and grace that only someone who’s seen behind the curtain of weddings can manage. “It is what it is,” she said with a deep breath and a smile, determined to focus on the joy of the day ahead. That mindset set the tone for everything that followed.

Before heading to the venue, we used the front of the iconic Mt Lofty House for a few photos. The dappled light streamed through the tall trees surrounding the estate, and the soft shadows played beautifully on Sharon’s dress and Mark’s sharp suit. They’d opted for a first look—a quiet moment shared between the two of them before the official events kicked off.
It was intimate and emotional, the kind of moment that melts any remaining nerves. Sharon’s expression as she turned and saw Mark was pure sunshine. There’s something about first looks that adds a gentle pause in an otherwise high-energy day. Arriving at Pike and Joyce, we were greeted with that iconic view over the vines. Rows upon rows of grape-laden greenery stretched out below, kissed by the afternoon sun. The setting was perfect—but, as weddings sometimes go, there was a little hiccup. Sharon, who had been keeping the rings safe, had accidentally left them behind.
Luckily, as a wedding photographer, I’ve seen my fair share of last-minute scrambles, and always come prepared. I offered up my own wedding band as a stand-in, and a ladies ring was sourced quickly for Sharon. It ended up being a touching, funny twist that lightened the mood—and one that struck an uncanny resemblance to my own wedding story with my wife Luisa. Talk about serendipity.
The ceremony itself was heartfelt and full of personal touches. A family band provided live music that carried softly on the breeze, and the vows were filled with gentle humour and raw emotion. During the ceremony, guests learned that Sharon had met Mark at his mother’s funeral—a service she had officiated. And later, he’d proposed at Windy Point, where sweeping views set the stage for a new chapter. Poetic, powerful, and unexpectedly romantic.

Following the ceremony, we wandered into the vineyard, letting the vines and golden light lead us. The way Sharon’s veil danced on the breeze through the rows of grapes was effortlessly elegant. These were the kind of portraits that feel completely natural—where the couple just sinks into the moment, forgetting the camera’s even there.
As the sun began to dip lower, we headed into a nearby pocket of native gum trees for some sunset shots. The tall trunks, the earthy scent of eucalyptus, and that gentle amber glow made for an unforgettable atmosphere. Sharon’s dress caught the light like it was spun from thread dipped in sunlight, and Mark couldn’t stop grinning at her. Meg and Tim’s wedding was the kind of joyful, offbeat day I love capturing—one full of personality, laughter, and a few surprises (including one very memorable helicopter arrival!).
Tim’s Preparation
Tim started his day in relaxed, rowdy style at a nearby Barossa B&B. If there was a theme for the morning, it was unfiltered fun. Shirtless board game chaos, mock rage-quits, and a steady stream of banter filled the space. His groomsmen made it their mission to keep the energy light and slightly ridiculous—which, judging by the constant grin on Tim’s face, worked like a charm.

Over at St Hugo’s, Meg was tucked away in one of the estate’s charming stone cottages, preparing for the day in a soft, glowing room that felt like it had been plucked from a fairytale. Tim’s Big Entrance
You don’t often get helicopters at weddings—but Tim made sure this one had a movie-worthy moment. He and his groomsmen soared in, landing on the field with all the drama of a blockbuster entrance. What came next was even better—the groomsmen leapt out first and fell into formation, full-on Secret Service style, flanking Tim as if he were a head of state walking into the ceremony.
It was theatrical, cheeky, and perfectly Tim. Guests roared with laughter and whipped out phones in a frenzy. That walk through the courtyard, flanked by his personal (and very sweaty) bodyguards, set the tone for a ceremony that was stylish, humorous, and totally them.

Nestled in the old brick courtyard under the shade of the vines growing along it’s sides, the ceremony offered just enough reprieve from the sun to keep everyone upright—though just barely. Even the livestream and video gear needed constant cooling to keep functioning in the sweltering heat. And yet, not a single smile wavered.
Just before Meg was set to walk down the aisle, a little hiccup—her bouquet had been left behind. Without skipping a beat, her dad sprinted back to retrieve it, returning just in time for a bouquet-in-hand entrance. It’s those real, spontaneous moments that give a ceremony its personality. After a round of joyful hugs and a few group snaps just outside the courtyard, we set off for portraits. First stop: the long driveway that winds between the stone cottages and cellar doors. It’s a dream location for natural light shots, and the bridal party made the most of it, laughing through each frame as we moved quickly to beat the heat.
We ventured briefly to a stunning clearing between vineyard rows for some classic bridal party shots, letting the group head back to cool down while Meg and Tim stayed for some quieter portraits. Back under the grand old tree, they shared a few private smiles and slow, whispered moments. There’s something poetic about the way vines and trees frame a couple—timeless, strong, grounded. St Hugo Wines Wedding Reception
The reception space at St Hugo Wines was a welcome escape from the heat, with chilled drinks flowing freely and guests sinking into the relaxed rhythm of the evening. The styling was next-level, particularly for the Harry Potter fans in the room. From floating candles to magical nods woven throughout the decor, the theme was tastefully layered and full of delightful surprises.
The biggest surprise came at the very end of the night—each guest’s bonbonniere was a sealed wand box they were instructed not to open until the final send-off. As Meg and Tim made their exit, guests lined the pathway, wands aloft like sparklers, creating a whimsical tunnel of raised arms and laughter. It was cinematic and charming—a little touch of Hogwarts magic to cap off a day already brimming with enchantment.
Heartfelt speeches brought tears and belly laughs, especially once the sound system decided to cooperate. And when the dance floor kicked off, it was packed in seconds. From the first spin to the final beat, it was a joyful, sweaty blur of dancing, hugs, and clinking glasses.

A St Hugo Wines wedding is always something special, but Meg and Tim elevated it with their incredible energy and flair. The golden sunlight filtered through gum trees as I arrived for Sophia and Sam’s gorgeous wedding at Kuitpo Hall. That kind of energy is the dream for a photographer – it lets the genuine connection between mates shine. Plus, the location gave us that mix of rustic charm and open greenery that worked so well in the lead-up to the ceremony.

As guests gathered on the grassy clearing beside Kuitpo Hall, everything felt calm and serene. The hall itself – with its weathered charm and history – added a lovely contrast to the lush greens all around. I’d photographed weddings here before, but this ceremony layout, with chairs facing the open field to the right of the building, felt fresh and inviting.
Sophia made her entrance from the right side of the hall – a bit of a surprise! Both myself and the videographer had assumed she’d come through the side door, so we had a little dash to reposition. Totally worth it though – her walk down the aisle was radiant. Their ceremony was faith-filled and moving. They made heartfelt vows promising to walk in their faith together, and there was this gorgeous stillness as they stood hand-in-hand, bathed in afternoon light, surrounded by beaming faces.

Glamour Photos in Kuitpo Forest
Once the confetti had settled and the hugs were done, we headed to one of my absolute favourite spots in all of South Australia – the Woodcutter’s Cottage area in Kuitpo Forest. This place holds a special place in my heart. In fact, I loved it so much I chose kuitpo for my own wedding photos – albeit a short drive away at Burbrook Forest. The soaring pines, dappled light, and fresh forest air make it magical no matter the season.
We took a few relaxed portraits in front of the rustic log cabin before wandering into the forest. As the sun dipped lower, golden rays poured through the trees, wrapping Sophia and Sam in the most flattering, dreamy light. It was romantic without feeling staged – just two people in love, surrounded by nature and their closest friends. The bridal party kept things lively, cracking jokes and throwing in the odd goofy pose to keep spirits high. Every frame captured here felt timeless.
