The House on Haines Wedding – Emily & Andrew

Emily and Andrew celebrated their love at The House on Haines, nestled at the base of the Adelaide Hills. Although the day was a bit wet and gloomy, it didn’t dampen the spirits of this lovely couple and their guests!

Emily and Andrew chose to embrace the weather and make it a part of their memorable day. So, grab your favorite drink, get cozy, and let’s dive into all the fantastic moments of this gorgeous Adelaide Hills wedding!

Andrew’s Preparation

The morning was filled with anticipation as Andrew and his groomsmen got ready at the couple’s home. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, and even the two fur babies of the house were caught up in the enthusiasm. After all, it’s not every day that their parents get married!

While there were many memorable moments, one light-hearted one was when a groomsman brought out a dozen different watches, unsure of which one to wear. It was a funny moment amidst the hustle and bustle of the morning. After getting ready, the groomsmen went for a short walk in a nearby park for some group shots before heading to the girls.

Emily’s Preparation at the Yatahlia Manor

Emily prepared for her big day at the stunning Yatahlia Manor, a beautiful house set amongst breathtaking grounds, complete with separate wings for all kinds of different photo shoots. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t allow us to use the grounds much, but we certainly made the most of the modern manor in all its glory. This included a tear-jerking first look with Emily’s father under the eaves of the main courtyard.

The Yatahlia Manor was the perfect backdrop for Emily’s preparation. The excitement in the air was palpable as Emily got ready with the help of her bridesmaids and family. Every detail, from her dress to her shoes, was carefully chosen and looked absolutely perfect.

Emily’s bridal bouquet was adorned with special charms that we had the honor of making for her. They were made of silver and surrounded by sparkling rhinestones, adding a touch of elegance and personalization to her bouquet. It was one of the first sets of bouquet charms we had made, and seeing them in Emily’s bouquet was incredibly rewarding. It’s always special to contribute to a bride’s big day in such a meaningful way.

The House on Haines Wedding Ceremony

The House on Haines wedding ceremony took place under a sea of umbrellas as the weather threatened to rain heavily throughout the event. Fortunately, it didn’t too much! Emily and Andrew decided to hold their ceremony outside on the grassy area near the house, regardless of the weather. Their celebrants made the ceremony a lot of fun by drawing their guests into the festivities in an interactive way.

Their dogs made a special appearance as ring bearers, eagerly making their way towards their parents. It was a sweet and touching moment that added a personal touch to the ceremony.

Anstey Hill Glamour Photos

For the glamour photos, we headed to Anstey Hill, just across the road. The space allowed for beautiful scenes shot through the foliage of gum trees, and the occasional spark of the sun making an appearance through the clouds. The bridal party was quite cold, so it wasn’t uncommon for the groomsmen to share their suit jackets with the bridesmaids.

The rain started to get quite heavy just as we left for the reception, but we managed to capture some beautiful moments amidst the natural beauty of Anstey Hill.

The House on Haines Wedding Reception

Emily and Andrew’s reception at The House on Haines was a blast! Guests were super keen on having a good time, and there were short but sweet speeches and a game of ‘shoe game‘ that made everyone laugh. Emily and Andrew had a large lit sign out on the decking as a backdrop to the night.

The only distraction was the Matildas game against France in the Women’s World Cup. The penalty shootout was tense, but it added an extra layer of excitement to the reception! At least one table was super excited bout it!

Ekhidna Winery Wedding – Chami & Bryce

While I’m sure Chami and Bryce planned their Ekhidna Winery wedding to be memorable and something that their friends and family would talk about for a long time afterwards – whatever they planned to do paled in comparison to what mother nature had in store for their big day!

Despite the unfortunate weather that had Bryce and his groomsmen running all over Mclaren Vale looking for umbrellas in the morning, Chami and Bryce refused to let it hampen their day, and they were certainly rewarded for their optimism with a stunning afternoon and evening after the freak mini cyclone had hit!

Chami’s Preparation

Chami was being prepared with her family and bridesmaids in a bed and breakfast I had visited before for another Ekhidna Wines wedding – but this time unfortunately I could not make much use of it’s pretty gardens due to the weather, so we made dow ith the interior as best we could after having moved some furniture around! 🙂

Bryce’s Preparation

Bryce and his groomsmen were being prepared in an older bed and breakfast nearby with easy access to vineyards, some trees and some nice scenery we tried to make use of inbetween rain spells.

Bryce was nervous, but kept his spirits up thanks to the antics of his groomsmen complaining about the workmanship of some odd design details about the house.

First Look Photoshoot

Chami and Bryce’s plan was that before their cermeony they were to have a first look on the beach at Pt Willunga. Of course with the weather how it was, that would have been quite silly, so instead we made use of the verandah at the ebd and breakfast that Bryce and his groomsmen had been prepared at.

Wasn;t quite as scenic as the beach, but the moment was no less sweet between these two lovely people, which by the way the horrid weather still had not wiped either of their smiles off their faces or excitement in their eyes.

We even had a bit of fun running about in the rain amongst the olive grove on Mclaren vale’s main street before heading back to Ekhidna Winery before guests started arriving.

Ekhidna Winery Wedding Ceremony

Just before Chami arrived to the ceremony – that had been set up inside the Ekhidna Wines retaurant area the brunt of the incredible weather system hit, causing sidewards rain – trees falling which waya dn that, and thousands of houses across Adelaide to lose power for multiple days!

Not to mention the reception area of Ekhidna winery flooded significantly – to the point that the head table needed to be re-positioned on the opposite end of the room. Credit goes to the staff though, as once the storm had passed, and the ceremony was over they were out there with brooms and a water pump to dry out the courtyard and towards the end of the night you wouldnt have known it was wet at all.

Chami and Bryce’s ceremony took place with the wide panoramic windows overlooking the vineyards as their background – not that we could see much through the rain, but it made for a nice airy backdrop for their photos none-the-less.

Glamour Shoot

Pretty much directly after the ceremony was over, the rain waned and we were able to venture outside to make use of the stunning surrounds that make up the reason why I love heading to Ekhidna Winery – not only for their stellar ginger beer!

We first made use of the road out front for some group shots with the bridal party, then walked down the road a little for the amazing grove of gum trees a short walk away. We then used the vineyard a bit while we were sure we could as we diddnt know what to expect later in the evening in regards to more rain.

Thanksfully that rain never came, and the weather actually cleared up completely, allowing for an amazing sunset and we even had Chami and Bryce’s guests outside to enjoy the nice weather!

I was so happy for them as one of the reasons whey they had chosen me as their wedding photographer was the nice sunset shots I usually take over the vineyards during sunset – so I was happy to capture that for them! I even tried some new shot too which I hope they enjoy 🙂

Ekhidna Winery Wedding Reception

Chami and Bryce’s wedding reception was just like any other – with the unique location of their head table which I had never seen set up that way before at Ekhidna wines due to the earlier weather – but it was pretty enat as there they were able to make use of their arbour as a backdrop to their table!

My photobooth was running all night, and everyone had an absolute blast with their live band playing all night long! Was a fun night!

3 Tips to Prepare Your Wedding Day for Possible Rain

  • Under the jetty

Prepare Your Wedding Day for Possible Rain

When planning a wedding, especially outdoors, the one thing you hope will never happen is for it to start raining. Unfortunately, no one can control the weather, and even the world’s best forecasters are not 100% right. So what happens if it does rain on your wedding day? Well, that will entirely depend on how well you prepared for it! The keyword here is “prepare,” something we will help you to do in this article!

Just before we start though, it might interest you to know that the tradition of it being good luck for it to rain on your wedding day dates back hundreds of years and has it’s roots in biblical gospel! So theres that going for you 😀

3 Tips to Prepare Your Wedding Day for Possible Rain

Here are some tips on you can prepare your wedding day for possible rain –

  1. Plan with your vendors

You will have vendors helping you out on your wedding day, from photographers to designers, even candlestick makers 😛 . Whoever it is you are working with, communicate to them thoroughly about your concerns. For example, during your wedding photo-taking session, you will want to talk to your wedding photographers about what to do if the weather changes.

We recommend talking about bringing umbrellas for light rain and picking a new location for heavier downpours. That said, your vendors will likely have plenty of experience for such situations, so it does not hurt to ask them what they think you should do. Work together, and you will be able to come up with a solid plan.

Wedding photographs in the rain can make for some magical shots! Particularly in Adelaide as it doesnt tend to rain too often here – but heading out for some monsoonal weather during Darwin’s wet season will get everyone pretty wet but can make for some great shots!

  1. Have a solid backup plan

Speaking of a solid plan, you will need to be quite thorough with how you organise the event. Merely telling your organizers to “bring umbrellas” is not going to cut it. Umbrellas can be useful in light rain, but they are not going to do anything if it starts to rain hard. An umbrella is not going to stop the ground from pooling up with water, nor protect everyone from getting drenched.

Once again, remember to thoroughly plan with your vendors to create a solid backup plan. Make sure you include details on what to do in case the weather does not cooperate. Have a list of backup locations or venues, and account for tents and other types of protection to keep your guests and equipment dry.

A big plus on any wedding venue you might be looking out for would be a built-in inclement weather plan. For example the Mt Lofty House wedding venue usually holds their ceremonies out on the lawns overlooking the velley, but can be held in the reception area at short notice.

  1. Be flexible and adaptable

No one can control the weather, so make sure that you take it into account when planning your wedding. You have to be flexible and adaptable, as there is no point in trying to work against it.

We understand that you have probably meticulously planned your wedding day down to the tiniest details, but always be sure to keep an open mind. Do not let the rain ruin your day, and do not let it ruin your wedding. By being adaptable, you can ensure your wedding day runs smoothly despite any weather.

Remember that the most important thing about your wedding day is that you get to marry the love of your life, and that’s all that matters!

Walking on the disused train line
Walking on the disused train line

You can always just hope for the best and pray that it does not rain on your big day, but this is not the only thing you can do. Instead, follow the tips we have shared above. Being prepared, even by just a little, is better than not being prepared at all. Prepare your wedding day for possible rain as best you can and it can be the difference between a spectacular wedding day and one that leaves you and your guests disappointed.

How to Make the Most of a Rainy Wedding Day

  • Under the jetty

How to Make the Most of a Rainy Wedding Day

If rolling clouds and light showers are to stay on your Big Day, there is still room to get creative. The best wedding photographers will know how to play with shadows and make the most of a rainy wedding day amd get the best out of raindrops and puddles. Chances are, your wedding album will make a statement rather than be tucked away in the attic. A little bit of rain shouldn’t dampen the festive air around the soon-to-be-newlyweds, in fact it’s tradition that rain on a wedding day is actually good luck!

Tips to Make the Most of a Rainy Wedding Day

Tip 1 – Think Ahead

When selecting a venue, always account for inclement weather by falling back on covered spaces and indoor ballrooms. If you’re tying the knot in an area home to unpredictable weather, don’t take your chances—study reports ahead of time.

Thorngrove Manor
Thorngrove Manor

Tip 2 – Say Yes to the Wet

Is the prospect of a little mud on your dress a no-go or something playful to think about? Most wedding photos occur before dinner time—no one is going to pay attention to spots on your gown while you’re seated. While a muddy dress doesn’t typically pique anyone’s interest, it can make for an interesting character on the dance floor.

Tip 3 – Arm Yourself with the Right Rain Gear

No, we aren’t talking about a waterproof bridal gown or tuxedo. In case of rain, you want to have an umbrella handy. Avoid brightly-coloured or black products, instead opting for a simple white or transparent to add a touch of chic to your photos. Carry a set of matching umbrellas for you and your partner—your wedding portraits will thank you later.

A neat shot that a wedding photographer can shoot on a wet wedding day is having some background smoke, or umbrellas light up with an off-camera flash. Looks awesome!

A spare set of wedding shoes can become costly. While hitching up your dress or pants from location to location will certainly do, a pair of wellies or sneakers won’t hurt—especially if they’re invisible under your gown.

Smokey greenhouse

Tip 4 – Allow Some Time to Tidy Up

Always allow ample time to dust off or wash up your wedding attire before photos. Keep a stain stick handy in case you get spots on your gown.

As I mentioned earlier, don’t worry too much about a bit of mud on the hem of your dress, particularly if you’ve spent the last few hours traipsing through vineyards! People simply wont notice during your reception.

Tip 5 – Know When to Call it a Day

Shooting in the rain is all good fun if you aren’t fussy about it—but it’s best to know your limits. Torrential downpours and gale-force winds aren’t very forgiving, so you won’t want to be out for more than a couple of shots. If you’re worried about your outfit or are shivering in the cold, it’ll come through in your photos.

Bride and groom through the window

Tip 6 – Take Photos on a Different Day

There’s no reason you have to take your wedding photos on your actual wedding day – take for example what Sarah and Ricardo did for their wedding day. Allow the flexibility to reschedule your shoot if the weather doesn’t support it. Consult with your wedding photographer regarding pre or post-wedding shoots.

The only issue with doing this is that you’ll have to get ready twice, which may mean booking makeup artsists and hair dressers twice – but it’s very doable if you wish.

A little bit of rain isn’t the end of how you envision your wedding photographs. By preparing ahead of time, coming up with a contingency plan, or simply embracing the weather, the joy in your photos will shine through. Hopefully these tips on how to make the most of a rainy wedding day helps you realise this.

Adelaide Glamour Shoot – Jasmine & Mervyl

Jasmine and Mervyl were in Adelaide for a short while and while here they figured they’d use the time to have a bit of an Adelaide glamour shoot before their wedding next year back in Singapore. They are also planning on having photos taken in Canberra also a few days later, so they’ll have quite a bit of diversity to show on a big screen at the forefront of their wedding reception.

Himeji Hardens

We began our short shoot in the Himeji Gardens, on South Terrace. We were very lucky at this time of day as the weather surrounding the shoot, both before and after was pretty atrocious, with wind and heavy rainfall – so i was happy to make use of any sun we had! Unfortunately the hem of Jasmine’s white dress started to get muddy towards the end, but lucky she had a change in dress! 🙂
