The reception was exactly what Francesca and Gian had hoped for—a chance to celebrate with the people they loved most. From the moment the day began, everything seemed to align beautifully – the weather, the mood, and the setting all working together in harmony.

As a wedding photographer, Ayers House is one of those venues that never disappoints. Every corner offers a new creative opportunity, from the ornate architecture to the moody interiors. For Rachel and Ivan, it was the grandeur of the Old Ballroom and the stately charm of the house that set the tone for their day. Surrounded by family, friends, and a touch of history, their wedding was the perfect blend of romance and sophistication.

Pre-Ceremony

The day began with quiet anticipation as we arrived early to capture a few portraits before the ceremony. Glamour Photos

Following the ceremony, we gathered everyone on the front lawn for a joyful group photo in front of Ayers House. The historic facade made for a stately backdrop, and the laughter and smiles of the guests radiated in the late afternoon light. It was the perfect way to capture the energy of the day before heading off to another favourite Adelaide location.

From there, we ventured to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. In the fading sunlight, the gardens were practically empty, giving us space to create some truly breathtaking images. The golden hour light streamed through the trees, catching Rachel’s veil and illuminating Ivan’s smile as they strolled hand in hand. Sunset in the Botanic Gardens is always a gift, and this day was no exception. The combination of natural beauty and the couple’s connection produced images that felt both romantic and timeless.

Ayers House Wedding Reception

Returning to Ayers House, Rachel and Ivan began their reception with a first dance back in the grandeur of the Old Ballroom. There’s something spectacular about seeing a couple move beneath the sparkling chandelier, surrounded by their loved ones cheering them on. The ballroom’s scale gave the dance an almost cinematic quality, and the photographs captured that magic effortlessly.

Afterward, the celebration shifted to the more intimate Henry’s Table and Bar within the mansion. Guests settled in for heartfelt speeches that ranged from tear-jerking to hilarious, all reflecting the love and warmth felt throughout the day. The setting offered a cosy, inviting space to wrap up an evening filled with joy. As the night came to a close, Rachel and Ivan’s smiles said it all – their Ayers House wedding had been everything they dreamed of and more, and I was honoured to capture every unforgettable moment.

Weddell Wedding – South of Darwin – Julie & Rafael

Covering weddings often means juggling travel, timelines, and wildly different climates, and this one was no exception. One day I was wandering through the romantic autumn tones of the Adelaide Hills, and the next I was swapping my jacket for sunscreen as I flew into Darwin. Julie and Rafael’s Weddell wedding was pure Northern Territory charm — lush greenery, warm sunlight, and that effortless tropical vibe that makes every photo pop with vibrancy.

Their wedding took place on a sprawling private property that felt like a hidden oasis. It wasn’t just any backyard — Julie and Rafael had poured love, energy, and plenty of sweat into landscaping it themselves. Everywhere you looked, there was manicured grass rolling out like a green carpet, dotted with palms and perfectly placed gardens. From one side, your eyes could wander right to the horizon; from another, you were met with the bold silhouette of a giant helicopter hangar. This wasn’t just a backdrop — it doubled as a jaw-dropping reception space, with a DJ setup that could rival a festival stage, complete with dazzling lights and a sound system that promised a night of non-stop fun.

Pre-Ceremony

The excitement started long before the vows. Julie arrived in serious style — a stretch white limousine, gleaming under the Darwin sun. There’s something about a limo arrival that just sets the tone for glamour, and it made the moment with her dad even more touching. Their first look outside was heart-melting — a mix of pride, joy, and those few happy tears that always sneak in before walking down the aisle. As a photographer, I live for these emotional snapshots; you can see decades of love in a single expression.

Guests began gathering on the lush lower lawn, buzzing with anticipation. The ceremony space was tucked just before a quaint little footbridge, creating an intimate feel despite the wide-open surroundings. Soft breezes rustled the greenery, and the tropical light filtered through just right — that kind of dreamy glow you can’t plan for but hope every wedding gets. It was the perfect lead-up to what was about to unfold.

Weddell Wedding Ceremony

Their Catholic ceremony felt both sacred and deeply personal. The space, framed by nature and love, created an atmosphere that was relaxed yet full of meaning. Julie’s entrance down the grassy aisle had every eye fixed on her, the train of her dress flowing effortlessly behind. The couple exchanged vows with genuine warmth, and you could hear the joy in every word.

One of the standout moments came right at the end — instead of traditional confetti or petals, guests let loose with bubbles. Not just the little hand-blown kind, either — there were bubble guns firing streams of them into the air. Kids darted around, chasing the shimmering orbs while Julie and Rafael walked hand in hand through the cascade. It was pure joy in motion, and the camera loved every second of it.

Glamour Photos

Post-ceremony, we didn’t have to venture far to find stunning backdrops. The property’s landscape was a photographer’s dream — endless lawns, tree-lined paths, and that open-sky Northern Territory magic. But the highlight? A full-sized white bouncing castle. Julie had organised it especially for the wedding, and it was one of those wonderfully unexpected additions that make a celebration truly unique. We had so much fun incorporating it into portraits, and it added a playful energy that perfectly matched the couple’s personalities.

We strolled down the long driveway, stopping at a rather unusual photo spot — a towering ant nest. It’s not every day you see one of these at a wedding, and it was a quirky, very Territorian touch to their gallery. As the day began to mellow, the light turned golden, casting that perfect end-of-day glow. Just as the sun dipped beyond the horizon, we wrapped up, ready for the evening’s festivities.

Weddell Wedding Reception

The reception setup was nothing short of spectacular. The helicopter hangar had been transformed into a party haven, with vibrant lighting, pumping music, and a dance floor that was impossible to ignore. Guests were already laughing and mingling when I arrived, and the energy was infectious. A variety of games kept everyone entertained, but the standout had to be the one where guests competed to hammer a nail into a log. It was chaotic, loud, and hilarious — exactly the kind of lighthearted fun that gets everyone involved.

Once the formalities wrapped up, the dance floor came alive. Between the smoke machines and the massive light rig, it felt like photographing a live concert. Julie and Rafael were right in the thick of it, surrounded by friends and family letting loose. The music didn’t just fill the space — it vibrated through the floor, the kind of bass you can feel in your chest.

To end the night, guests gathered outside for a sparkler exit. The glow from the sparklers lit up the couple’s faces as they made their way through the cheering crowd. It was a magical, glittering finale to a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. For me, hopping between states to capture such unique celebrations is part of the adventure — and this one will stay with me for a long time.
