Family photoshoots are always special, but there’s something uniquely charming about a session that takes place in the vibrant neighborhood of Bowden. Bowden, with its blend of urban edge and leafy surroundings, offers the perfect backdrop for capturing those cherished moments. When I was invited to photograph this lovely family, I knew that this shoot would be a beautiful blend of intimacy, love, and a touch of Bowden’s distinctive flair.
The family was celebrating a significant moment – the coming together of their tight-knit group for the celebration of the grandparent’s anniversary! What better way to commemorate this occasion than with a photoshoot that not only captures their bond but also showcases the eclectic beauty of Bowden?
As a photographer, it’s always a pleasure to work in such a diverse location, where every corner offers something unique. The plan was simple: start indoors to take advantage of the cozy apartment setting, then move outside to embrace the natural elements in front of Plant 4, a well-loved spot in Bowden.
Inside Photoshoot
Inside their Bowden apartment, we made the most of the environment. The grey curtains provided a soft, neutral backdrop, ideal for capturing the warmth of the family interactions without any distractions.
We rearranged the space a bit, moving the sofa to create an open area perfect for group shots. The children were at the heart of it all, their energy filling the room with laughter and playfulness. The grandparents, who were just as excited as the little ones, didn’t miss a beat. They were constantly picking up the children, playing games, and sharing sweet moments that were an absolute joy to capture. The indoor setting allowed for these interactions to shine, focusing on the familial bonds without any outside interference.

As the rain eased into a light sprinkle, we decided to brave the outdoors and head to the iconic Plant 4.
The children were thrilled to be outside, their excitement palpable as they ran around on the grassy area in front of Plant 4. This open space allowed them to be themselves – playful, carefree, and full of life. The grandparents, ever doting, joined in the fun, their laughter mixing with the children’s as they all enjoyed the moment together. The interaction between the generations was a joy to photograph, showcasing the deep bonds that hold this family together.
The cherry blossoms nearby added a touch of magic to the shoot. Their delicate pink petals contrasted beautifully with the industrial backdrop of Plant 4, creating a scene that was both urban and natural. Despite the less-than-perfect weather, the photoshoot turned out to be a wonderful experience. The drizzle added a soft, almost cinematic quality to the outdoor shots, while the indoor portion allowed us to capture the warmth and closeness of the family. Celebrating love amidst the enchanting backdrop of The Manor in Basket Range is always a magical experience. Jasmine and Rikki’s wedding day might have started with a bit of rain, but that only added to the charm and intimacy of their beautiful celebration. Jasmine and Rikki’s wedding was initially planned to take place in front of the charming little chapel on site. However, with the rain coming down, a last-minute change saw the ceremony moved to the undercover area in front of the smaller function room on the lower level. This adjustment didn’t dampen the spirits one bit; instead, it brought everyone closer together, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere that was simply perfect for such a special occasion.
Preparation
The day began with a buzz of excitement as both Jasmine and Rikki prepared on site. Rikki and his groomsmen occupied the small room at the end of the complex, exuding a laid-back vibe as they got ready. Their main focus was getting the photos done swiftly so they could relax and enjoy the day. Dressed to impress, they laughed and shared stories, setting a light-hearted tone for the day ahead.
Meanwhile, Jasmine and her entourage were upstairs above the main doors, filling the air with laughter and joy. With the rain looming, we set off on a quick tour of The Manor’s stunning grounds for the glamour photos. Jasmine and Rikki, along with their bridal party, navigated the gardens with ease, making the most of the beautiful surroundings. First Game – Capture the Magical Jerry Can
The first game was like stepping into an action movie set. Like a scene straight out of Stargate, with two teams battling to capture the magical jerry can from the central pyramid. The objective was simple yet challenging: seize control of the jerry can and transport it to the opponent’s spawning location without getting shot. Easier said than done! Both attempts at this game ended in a stalemate, but not without some intense and hilarious moments.
The girls seemed to dominate possession of the jerry can during the matches, showcasing their strategic prowess. I felt like a wartime reporter, sneaking around to capture the action without becoming a target myself. The challenge was real, and despite my high-vis gear, I couldn’t avoid getting hit a few times. But those action-packed shots of paintballs flying, determined faces, and triumphant cheers made it all worth it. The energy was contagious, and the competitive spirit was infectious.

Second Game – Barrel Run
The second game kicked off with a thrilling twist. The bride, groom, best man and maid of honour had to run a gauntlet while their friends unleashed a barrage of paintballs at them. It was a sight to behold, filled with laughter and a few dramatic dodges. The groom, in his valiant attempt, managed to hurt himself slightly, but his spirit remained unbroken. This initial fun set the stage for the main event: a classic push-and-pull game with barrels scattered throughout the field.
The objective was straightforward: push the opposing team off the map. The barrels provided cover and obstacles, turning the game into a strategic battle of wits and agility. The intensity was palpable as both teams maneuvered, trying to outsmart and overpower each other. Tthe action was non-stop, and the opportunities for dynamic, engaging shots were endless. The moments of triumph, frustration, and sheer determination were beautifully captured, making this game a highlight of the day.

Third Game – Protect the President
The final game was my favourite. The playing field was an elaborate setup with wooden tanks and a real helicopter, creating an immersive and exciting environment. The storyline added an extra layer of excitement: a helicopter had crashed, and the tanks were attacking, with the goal being to plant a slab of TNT within the helicopter. Both teams were determined, and the stakes were high with the girls needing to win both games in order to catch up with the boys on points.
Watching the boys and girls strategize, execute their plans, and fight for victory was exhilarating. Each team had a turn at being the attackers and defenders, showcasing their teamwork and tactical skills. The expressions of concentration, the triumphant yells, and the victorious smiles were priceless. Capturing these moments, where the players were wholly engrossed in the game, provided some of the best shots of the day. It was the perfect culmination of an action-packed, joy-filled event.

In the end, the Bucks vs Hens Paintball Party at Monarto Delta Force was more than just a pre-wedding celebration. We utilized various spots within the gardens, including the grassy areas, the majestic gum trees, and the stunning waterfall ponds, to capture a variety of shots.
