Relive your Wedding with Virtual Reality Videography

Wedding videography has come a long way since its inception. In the past, couples relied on photographs to capture their special day, but with the advancement of technology, wedding videography has become an essential part of the wedding industry. The rise of technology has allowed for the evolution of wedding videography, with virtual reality (VR) videography being the latest trend.

SvenStudios has always been at the forefront of Virtual Reality Videography having made VR videos for our bridal couples at every wedding we’ve attended for about 5 years now, and we do it for no extra charge when also covering their photography or videography – we just do it for fun as we think it’s neat! Below is an example of a VR video made for a destination wedding we covered in Santorini, Greece.

What is Virtual Reality Videography?

Virtual reality videography is a new and innovative way to capture and relive wedding memories. It involves using VR technology to create a 360-degree video experience that allows viewers to feel like they are actually present at the wedding. Unlike traditional videography, which captures moments from a fixed perspective, VR videography immerses viewers in the scene, giving them a more interactive and immersive experience.

Benefits of VR Wedding Video

One of the main benefits of VR wedding video is the enhanced viewing experience it provides. With traditional videography, viewers are limited to watching the video from a fixed perspective. However, with VR videography, viewers can move their head and explore the scene as if they were actually there. This adds a whole new level of engagement and excitement to watching the wedding video.

Another benefit of VR wedding video is that it creates immersive memories. Traditional videography captures moments as they happen, but VR videography allows viewers to relive those moments in a more immersive way. They can feel like they are actually there, experiencing the emotions and atmosphere of the wedding all over again, or in the case of guests who could not attend the first time.

Bridal hugs in the vineyard

Additionally, VR wedding video captures every moment of the wedding. Traditional videography may miss certain moments or only capture them from one angle. With VR videography, every moment is captured from multiple angles, allowing viewers to see different perspectives and details that they may have missed during the actual event. Normally wedding videos are focused on the couple, now you’re also able to enjoy the reactions of your guests!

Inviting guests who could not attend your wedding due to some reason is by far the most satisfying reason to have a virtual reality video made of your wedding – be it loved ones in the hospital, or you’re eloping overseas, makes it a heartfelt gesture to think about your family by at least having this option for them.

How does Virtual Reality Videography work?

VR videography works by using a combination of cameras and software to capture and stitch together multiple video feeds into a seamless 360-degree video. This video can then be viewed using a VR headset, which allows viewers to feel like they are actually present at the wedding. Or simply on a device with a gyroscope built-in, like any modern smart phone. The way I like to explain it is it’s like a scene from Google Earth, only video.

The immersive experience provided by VR videography enhances wedding memories in several ways. Firstly, it allows viewers to feel like they are actually there, experiencing the wedding from the perspective of the couple and their guests. This creates a more emotional and personal connection to the memories captured in the video.

Destination Wedding Photographers

Secondly, VR videography captures the atmosphere and ambiance of the wedding in a way that traditional videography cannot. Viewers can see and hear everything that was happening around them, from the laughter and applause to the music and speeches. This adds an extra layer of depth to the memories captured in the video.

Lastly, VR videography allows viewers to explore the scene and relive specific moments in a more interactive way. They can look in any direction, allowing them to focus on different details or relive their favorite moments from different angles. This level of interactivity adds a whole new dimension to the wedding memories captured in the video.

Capturing Every Moment: VR Wedding Video vs Traditional Videography

VR videography offers several advantages over traditional videography, especially in capturing the essence of a wedding. One of its primary benefits is the ability to record moments from multiple perspectives, enabling viewers to see details and angles that might have been missed during the live event, ensuring every moment is captured without being overlooked.

Furthermore, VR videography enhances creative storytelling. Unlike traditional methods that record events linearly, VR allows videographers to experiment with various angles and perspectives. This flexibility facilitates the creation of a dynamic and captivating narrative, uniquely encapsulating the spirit of the wedding.

Lastly, VR videography introduces a higher level of viewer interaction. It enables viewers to navigate and explore the scene, focusing on different aspects or revisiting their favorite moments from various viewpoints. This interactive experience significantly elevates the engagement and enjoyment of watching the wedding video, making it a more immersive experience.

The Future of Wedding Videography: VR Technology

The future of wedding videography lies in VR technology. As VR technology continues to advance and become more accessible, we can expect to see more couples opting for VR wedding videos. The potential of VR technology in wedding videography is vast, with the ability to create even more immersive and interactive experiences for viewers.

One potential future development is the integration of virtual reality into live streaming. Imagine being able to attend a wedding virtually, from the comfort of your own home. With VR technology, this could become a reality, allowing friends and family who are unable to attend the wedding in person to still be a part of the experience.

Another potential development is the use of augmented reality (AR) in wedding videography. AR overlays digital elements onto the real world, creating a mixed reality experience. This could allow couples to add special effects or personalized messages to their wedding videos, creating a truly unique and memorable experience for viewers.

Choosing the Right VR Wedding Videographer

When choosing a VR wedding videographer, there are several factors to consider. Firstly, look for a videographer who has experience with VR technology. VR videography requires specialized knowledge and equipment, so make sure the videographer is familiar with the technology and has a portfolio of VR wedding videos to showcase their work.

Aask questions before hiring a VR wedding videographer. Find out about their process, what equipment they use, and how they handle post-production. Make sure you are comfortable with their approach and that they can deliver the final product you envision.

Cost of VR Wedding Videography: Is it Worth It?

The cost of VR wedding videography can vary depending on several factors, including the location, duration of the shoot, and complexity of the project. On average, VR wedding videography can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.

As I mentioned earlier however, we actually offer virtual reality recording of your wedding ceremony absolutely free, while using industry-leading equipment just because we believe as wedding photographers and videogrpahers ourt job is to document your day in the most realistic, and best possible way for you to look back on and reminisce. There is no better way to do that than using this technology.

VR offers a unique and immersive experience that cannot be replicated with traditional methods. It allows you to relive your wedding memories in a way that makes you feel like you are actually there, experiencing the emotions and atmosphere all over again. If capturing every moment and creating an immersive and interactive experience is important to you, then VR wedding videography may be worth the cost.

Embrace the Future of Wedding Memories with Virtual Reality Videography

VR videography is the future of wedding memories. It offers an enhanced viewing experience, immersive memories, and the ability to capture every moment from multiple angles. With the advancement of VR technology, we can expect to see more couples embracing this innovative way of capturing and reliving their special day.

While not everyone has a headset in their homes yet, the technology is becoming more prevalent and it’s certainly making waves!

If you are considering having a VR wedding video, make sure to prepare for the shoot and choose the right videographer who has experience with VR technology like us! While VR wedding videography may be more expensive than traditional videography, it offers a unique and immersive experience that cannot be replicated with traditional methods.

Botanic Gardens Palm House Wedding – Kelly & David

As an Adelaide photographer, I’ve had the joy of capturing many beautiful weddings, and Kelly and David’s Palm House wedding at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens was a dream come true. Nestled under a majestic gum tree in the northern part of the gardens, their ceremony space was nothing short of enchanting. The sun graced us with its presence, bathing the entire area in a warm, golden light. Thankfully, Kelly and David had thoughtfully arranged large umbrellas to shield their guests from the sun’s intensity, adding a touch of elegance and comfort to the setting.

David’s anticipation was almost palpable as he waited for Kelly, his eyes occasionally darting towards the white carpet (a color he was initially unsure of, but which turned out to be perfect!). When Kelly made her entrance to their Palm House Wedding, fashionably late, the atmosphere was electric. The ceremony was filled with laughter and heartfelt moments, especially during the humorous retelling of their initial Facebook exchanges. It was a privilege to witness and capture these moments, making sure each photograph reflected the joy and uniqueness of their special day.

Glamour Photos

Post-ceremony, the bridal party and I embarked on an exploratory photo session around the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. The gardens, with their diverse landscapes and stunning backdrops, provided the perfect canvas for our glamour shots. We journeyed through lush greenery, pausing at picturesque spots to capture the essence of the day. The light was soft and flattering, ideal for highlighting Kelly’s radiant beauty and the couple’s palpable love.

As the day progressed, the air grew slightly cooler, bringing a refreshing change to the atmosphere. This shift in weather added a dynamic element to our photo session, as we played with different settings and moods. The bridal party was a joy to work with, their energy and enthusiasm infusing each photo with a sense of fun and spontaneity. By the end of the session, we had an array of stunning photographs that truly encapsulated the essence of Kelly and David’s love story.

The Lion Hotel Wedding Reception

The day’s festivities continued at The Lion Hotel, where Kelly and David had planned their reception. Situated in the heart of North Adelaide, The Lion Hotel boasts a unique charm, blending historical elegance with a modern twist. The cellar, where the reception was held, provided a cozy and intimate setting. Its rustic ambience was the perfect backdrop for the evening’s celebrations, creating an atmosphere of warmth and familiarity.

As the evening unfolded, the cellar came alive with laughter, music, and dancing. The joy and love in the room were almost tangible, making it a delight to photograph. Guests mingled, shared stories, and celebrated the newlyweds in a setting that felt both grand and intimate. The night was filled with memorable moments, from heartfelt toasts to lively dance moves, each one a testament to the couple’s journey and the bonds they share with their loved ones.

As a photographer, capturing these moments in a way that felt true to the spirit of the day was both a challenge and a privilege, resulting in a collection of images that Kelly and David will cherish for years to come.

Lake Breeze Winery Wedding – Charlotte & Jake

Charlotte and Jake’s Lake Breeze Winery wedding was one of family, love and a wonderful couple in the center of it all!

Charlotte and Jake were keen to follow me about during Golden Hour and fended off all the bugs to get the most awesome photos in amongst the stunning surrounds that is Lake Breeze Winery.

Preparation

My wife and I began the day at Charlotte’s place of preparation in order to capture some of the early morning while the girls were getting ready.

Alice’s B&B was where Charlotte had chosen for the bridal party to get ready, and it featured a pretty amazing upper level with a neat triangular window overlooking the long, spacious grassy area out the back of the house. This allowed for some neat opportunities for both their makeup artist for natural light, and also to hang Charlotte’s dress in.

After a few shots of Charlotte and her bridal party getting ready, we head over to Jake and the boy’s place of preparation, then head back to Alice’s B&B again for the finishing touches.

Bit of a fun end to Charlotte’s preparation was a silly adaptation of a scene from Princess Diaries where Charlotte hid behind two images of her before her makeup, then has a reveal. Bit silly, but lot’s of fun!

Jake and his groomsmen were prepared nearby in another bed and breakfast, The Creek Cottage.

Bit of a different ambiance to where Charlotte was being prepared, this little cottage was covered in vines, and had an old, rustic vibe which was very cozy. The boys were keen on having a bit of a laugh throughout the preparation process and it was lovely to have Jake’s parents pitch in a bit too!

Lake Breeze Winery Wedding Ceremony

Having only one wedding car to transport all of the bridal party to Lake Breeze Wines meant that the car had to do multiple trips both to and from their bed and breakfasts, and then to and from the ceremony location, out the back with the permanent arbour set up on the large grassy area out the back of the winery.

This resulted in a bit of an anxious wait for Jake, which was very cute having his pacing the front of their congregation and staring off into the distance – along with a few cuddles from their son.

Once Charlotte arrived, then their ceremony was nice and simple, with a short Disney themed reading from a family member, before reciting heartfelt personal vows involving a lot of good natured jabs at each other’s favourite football teams. That’s real football, not AFL.

They also had my live streaming service set up for guests who could not attend overseas!

After the ceremony, their car was about to leave, so I made sure to use it while we still had it available, so we first took some bridal party photos with it, before using the drone to take a big group photo.

We then spent a little bit of time taking a few more group photos of the bridal party together before heading into the reception.

During the reception, I had Charlotte and Jake follow us around the grounds a bit during the best light for photos, and boy did the sun turn it on for us when I wanted it to! The day was otherwise overcast all day, expect for the time we were out for photos, and I’m so thankful it did!

The great thing about hosting a Lake Breeze Winery wedding is the variety of scenes one can get – from the usual vineyards shots from any winery, to little hidden footbridges, gum trees, long grass and old stone walls. you can spend hours taking photos here.

SvenStudios Rebrand – Modern and Greener

You may have noticed on my socials, or on my website a new logo popping up about the place? Well this is part of the SvenStudios Rebrand – a simple refresh on what SvenStudios is all about and how we go about things.

I have been shooting weddings for over 16 years now – I’ve shot over 350 in Australia and around the world and over this time I’ve developed a bit of a unique mentality when it comes to shooting weddings. More recently my wife, Luisa has joined me primarily shooting the videography while I’m taking the photos – which is a bit of a change on how I would otherwise operate.

With a clear vision on what SvenStudios is all about when it comes to wedding photography and videography, and the changes in our underlying business model, the ‘SvenStudios rebrand’ was born!

First up is the new SvenStudios Logo – our new logo is representative of all the things that SvenStudios believes in and gives an insight into our goals when shooting at a wedding in an abstract way.

Old Logo

SvenStudios Logo
OLD LOGO

The old SvenStudios logo was modelled on the typical ‘camera iris’ motif that was quite common to use as a photographer’s logo back when I made it about 16 years ago. Back then my primary focus was landscape and travel photography – so I transformed the iris into a bit of a landscape scene.

If you look closely you can see me on the lower right standing with a tripod on a beach. Directly behind is a lighthouse, then a bird makes up the top of the logo, and finally a wave crashing into the beach where I’m standing. This creates a bit of a narrative for the viewer based loosely on how the fibonacci spiral works in the composition of photography – telling a story within an image.

As you can see the logo has undergone a radical simplification – making it more modern and simplified – but hidden in it’s simplicity is still quite a bit of meaning, just a bit more abstract than my old logo.

New Logo

SvenStudios Logo
NEW LOGO

I wanted the new SvenStudios logo to represent our past, but also what we are all about now. The past is represented in the new logo by keeping the circular shape – representing the camera iris. The center of the new logo is also still white showing that the attention to detail and development of stunning works of art in our photography is paramount.

There are two major factors in what we focus most on when producing our work, and that is the landscape surrounding us, and the married couple. These two factors are represented by the top section and the bottom section of the logo, which come together to make an ‘S’ for SvenStudios.

Here’s a bit of an animation illustrating this thought process.

SvenStudios Rebrand – Greener

It’s the focus on the landscape and producing works of art within the context of a wedding that has caused the development of our unique style of wedding photography – it’s an important part of why we have been so successful.

To show our connection to our surrounds and show it respect, we realised that we needed to preserve what we have.

SvenStudios has always been carbon neutral by offsetting 3 tonnes of carbon per year while also donating to the Australian disaster relief fund, while also giving discounts to members of the CFS and emergency services – but now we have become a member of 1% for the Planet.

This means that a minimum of 1% of all sales through SvenStudios is to be donated to an Earth Friendly charity.

1% for the Planet
1% for the Planet

This amazing initiative is geared towards businesses of all sizes across the globe and it’s a small price to pay for preserving what we have, and what we use to make a living – ie our surrounds! To date, the initiative has given over US$435 million in environmental solutions, and now SvenStudios – with your help, will also be contributing.

Adelaide Marriages Registration Office Wedding – Skye & Lachlan

Skye and Lachlan held a simple, private ceremony with their two sets of parents at the Adelaide Births and Marriage registration office in the Adelaide CBD . The great thing about a Adelaide Marriages Registration office wedding is that  the ceremony is short, sharp and shiny, whithout costing a huge amount – and yet you still get to take advantage of all the amazing photo spots around Adelaide!

Adelaide Marriages Registration Office Wedding Ceremony

I was surprised to arrive after Skye and her family had – as, as many people know – I tend to arrive far to early to my weddings sometimes, and that’s usually the case for me at the registry office also! All that wer were missing before the ceremony was Lachlan!

Skye and Lachlan’s ceremony was nice and short, with the usual fussing over signing the documents that the resident celebrant takes great pride in having fun doing so, before doing a few family photos and heading out to hit the town!

I suggested we first head over the road to the Adelaide Arcade, which is always a nice way to break up the green photo deluge that usually occurs if you plan on just using the Botanic Gardens for wedding photos.

We head up stairs to use the long, straight passage the ornate space offers, while also using the huge arch window that overlooks Grenfell street for a bit of a dance 🙂

After driving over oto the Adelaide Btanic gardens, we parked along Plane Tree drive, which also allowed us to use the stunning trees in the adjacent Botanic Park. These moreton bay fig trees just have the most stunning roots which are easy to stand amongst and get some great shots!

As we had no bridal party to slow us down, we managed to use quite a bit of the Botanic gardens with a bit of a whirlwind tour, starting out by the friendship gates, zooming around to the famed Palm house, then the gardens in between, before finishing up in the Bicentennial Dome.
