My job for the first part of this mission was to blend in. If you happened to stroll past that morning, you’d have seen me hunched over my camera near the turtles, pretending to be just another early riser enamoured with the peaceful vibe and blooming flora. As guests gathered on the grassy clearing beside Kuitpo Hall, everything felt calm and serene. The hall itself – with its weathered charm and history – added a lovely contrast to the lush greens all around. I’d photographed weddings here before, but this ceremony layout, with chairs facing the open field to the right of the building, felt fresh and inviting.
Sophia made her entrance from the right side of the hall – a bit of a surprise! Both myself and the videographer had assumed she’d come through the side door, so we had a little dash to reposition. Totally worth it though – her walk down the aisle was radiant. Their ceremony was faith-filled and moving. They made heartfelt vows promising to walk in their faith together, and there was this gorgeous stillness as they stood hand-in-hand, bathed in afternoon light, surrounded by beaming faces.

Once the confetti had settled and the hugs were done, we headed to one of my absolute favourite spots in all of South Australia – the Woodcutter’s Cottage area in Kuitpo Forest. This place holds a special place in my heart. In fact, I loved it so much I chose kuitpo for my own wedding photos – albeit a short drive away at Burbrook Forest. The soaring pines, dappled light, and fresh forest air make it magical no matter the season.
We took a few relaxed portraits in front of the rustic log cabin before wandering into the forest. As the sun dipped lower, golden rays poured through the trees, wrapping Sophia and Sam in the most flattering, dreamy light. It was romantic without feeling staged – just two people in love, surrounded by nature and their closest friends. The bridal party kept things lively, cracking jokes and throwing in the odd goofy pose to keep spirits high. Every frame captured here felt timeless.

Adelaide’s afternoon sun was in full cooperation during our Veale Gardens family photoshoot. As it filtered through the trees, it added a magical touch to everything it touched – from the shimmer on the water to the golden hues in our little one’s hair. Even when we tried to pause for “formal” shots, someone would crack a joke or sneak a tickle, and the structured moment would dissolve into authentic joy. It’s those real, unrehearsed reactions that make for the most meaningful photos – especially in a location as naturally vibrant as Veale Gardens.

And with family and friends arriving in black and white hummers, and a reception that featured a live serenade and a bit of surprise silly string, they absolutely nailed it. This wasn’t about the traditions – no first dance, no bouquet toss – it was about connection, celebration, and creating a day that was unmistakably them.
Mel’s Preparation
Mel’s morning unfolded in a picture-perfect bed and breakfast with views that could have been pulled straight from a postcard. After the ceremony, we took a wander around Longview’s beautiful grounds with the bridal party. From the iconic tree-lined driveway that sweeps into the estate to the golden grass-covered hills and neat rows of vines, it was a photographer’s dream. The lighting was divine, and the wind added a little extra drama to every dress swish and jacket flick.
The bridal party brought the energy. There was dancing in the vineyard rows, playful cuddless on the gravel paths, and plenty of cheeky banter between shots. Mel and Ryan were effortlessly affectionate – their comfort with each other was a dream to document. Back at the reception space, Longview transformed into a cosy gathering spot with fairy lights, rustic charm, and laughter echoing through the halls. The couple kept the styling simple – letting the natural beauty of the venue shine through – and focused more on the vibe than the frills. And wow, did the vibe deliver.
Our photobooth was up and running all night, packed with guests donning ridiculous props and pulling faces. The audio guestbook added a sentimental twist – heartfelt messages and hilarious advice recorded for Mel and Ryan to replay in years to come. But the real showstopper? One of Mel’s bridesmaids surprised everyone by singing a tear-inducing tribute to the newlyweds. The room went from wild to silent in an instant, every guest holding their breath as her voice filled the space with love.
Then came a surprise no one was ready for – a cheeky South African tradition courtesy of Ryan’s side. Mid-speech, just as he was getting all sentimental, he was ambushed with a barrage of silly string. Cue uproarious laughter and a very sticky groom.
