Botanic Park Wedding – Rose & Simon

  • Rose & Simon

    Botanic Park Wedding

bride and groom at Adelaide University

Rose and Simon chose to hold their wedding in the wonderful surrounds of the Adelaide Botanic Park – right next to the gates of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. The appeal of the Botanic park is that it’s wide and open, complete with magnificent Moreton Bay Fig trees that provide for marvellous backdrops to photos. It was a lovely sunny day, which unfortunately meant that plenty of other people had the same idea to head to the Botanic Park for picnics and family gatherings, but we worked around it as best we could 🙂

Preparation

Simon was being prepared in a room in the Holiday Inn Express Hotel, on Hindley street, which allowed us to go for a little walk once all the boys were dressed along Hindley and also the front of Parliament house for some photos. I think the walk was a little theraputic for Simon, to get over his nerves a little better, and loosen him up a bit for his big day 🙂

Rose and her bridal party was being prepared at their house north of the city. When I arrived the first thing I saw was an enourmous cheese and finger food platter that I was amazed to hear that Rose had just ‘whipped up’ for the occasion. It was honestly very impressive! The atmosphere was fairly jovial, with not too many nerves showing, all the girls were in good spirits!

Botanic Park Wedding Ceremony

Due to the fact that the Botanic Park had become a fairly popular spot on their day, unfortunately they had to make the snap decision to set up their ceremony in a different position so as to not get any picnicing families in the background of their photos. This also meant that the glaring sun was right in front of them for their whole ceremony, which wasnt ideal – but other than that their ceremony went off very well with Rose’s son walking her down the aisle and emotion showing on Simon’s face 🙂

Botanic Park Glamour Photos

Rose had unfortunately hurt her foot a few weeks prior to their wedding day so as it was encased in a moonboot under her dress, I was mindful of the fact that she wouldn’t want to walk too far for photos, so we made use of the Moreton Bay fig trees directly surrounding where they held their ceremony, and it also allowed Rose and Simon to maintain social contact with their guests while we were taking photos. The group family photos were also quite easy to organise because of this. We diddn’t spend too long walking about for photos – just enough time to grab a few nice shots before heading back to the expresso martini van they had set up for their guests! On the way back tot he Intercontinental Hotel for their wedding reception, we stopped off at the famed pillared walkway in the Adelaide University for a few photos there too.

Intercontinental Hotel Wedding Reception

The main ballroom within the Adelaide Intercontinental Hotel was the setting for Rose and Simon’s opulent wedding reception, with an incredible vista set up for their huge wedding cake! Their head table was backdropped with a lovely white sheet sparkling with led lights, while their table settings were complete with a little bottle of port for each guest. With a live band playing, and a laid back atmosphere, the night was fun to be a part of and the jovial guests made my job easy 🙂

Mt Lofty House Wedding – Naomi & Neil

  • Naomi & Neil

    Mt Lofty House Wedding

    Mt Lofty House Garden

Naomi and Neil held their lovely intimate Mt Lofty House wedding on a lovely day in late September. Unfortunately they could not hold their ceremony out on the house’s lawn, overlooking the Mt Lofty botanic gardens, due to it being a little chilly, but the great thing about a  Mt Lofty House wedding is that there’s always a backup spot for a ceremony inside, just in case! I was asked to be their wedding photographer for 3 hours on their big day, and I was so pleased to be a part of their lovely day!

Preparation

My day started with Naomi being prepared on site inside one of the private cottages surrounding Mt Lofty House. Neil was also getting ready there, but left before Naomi had her dress put on, allowing for the traditional ‘first look’ of the dress as Naomi walked down the aisle.

The atmosphere within the house with Naomi and the girls getting ready there was upbeat and quite laid back, punctuated just before leaving for the ceremony with a little emotion as Mum and Dad came in just before she left. It’s always nice to capture the smiles and/or tear of the parents as they witness their little one all ready to be married! 😀 One of the reasons why I love being a wedding photographer, you never know how people will react, and it’s wonderful to share in the emotion of wedding days!

Mt Lofty House Wedding Ceremony

As I mentioned earlier, Naomi and Neil’s Mt Lofty House wedding took place inside the hotel’s restaurant instead of the previously planned lawns overlooking the valley due to being a little cold. The space provided by Mt Lofty House in these cases has ample space for medium to large sized congregations, and it fit all of Neil and Naomi’s guests nicely. The space as they had it set up has huge windows overlooking the valley as if they were outside on the lawns anyway, while having the added confort of being inside. It was the second time in a row I’ve been the wedding photographer at a Mt Lofty House wedding inside.

Glamour Photos

After some family photos which we took outside on the lawns, we used the gardens surrounding Mt Lofty House and the interior spaces of the house itself for some glamour photos. As the sky was rather overcast, walking about the gardens and taking photos there were an absolute dream and made the task of making pretty photos that much easier! The inside of Mt Lofty House was as always a super stately affair, and as Naomi and Neil were keen wine drinkers they were excited to head down to the well stocked wine cellar located below the house itself. Some very expensive wine bottles down there!

Mt Lofty House Wedding Reception

Naomi and Neil’s reception took place in the newly rennovated add-on room nearby the Mt Lofty House restaurant, which is a lovely airy space, adjacent to the gardens. They held a simple lunch time reception which allowed me to capture their cake and it’s cutting, and a photo of pretty much everyone there before I had to leave. I’ve noticed this before, but Naomi and Neil also opted to have a non-traditional wedding cake – which was actually several cheese wheels stacked upon one another. This is feel is a wonderful alternative for those of us who aren’t real cake eaters. Looks great too! I believe they had it cut up and distributed as part of their bonboneire gifts for their guests!

Karkoo Nursery Wedding – Kirsty & Jason

  • Naomi & Neil

    Mt Lofty House Wedding

    Mt Lofty House Garden

The Karkoo Nursery in Blackwood, Adelaide Hills was the rather unlikely backdrop for Kirsty and Jason’s wedding! They had never hosted a wedding there before, but it made for the perfectly eclectic backdrop for Kirsty’s keeness to keep things simple and do as much as she could herself. This allowed for a lovely aesthetic that spoke perfectly of Kirsty and Jason’s personality while focussing on the important stuff! I was asked to be their wedding photographer for 3 hours which saw me with them for the ceremony, glamour photos at the nearby heritage listed Gamble Cottage, then a short time at Eire Cafe for an early dinner reception.

Karkoo Nursery Wedding Ceremony

This Blackwood Nursery regularly hosts live music events in this space, so it’s not as if the store had no experience in holding events, and there was ample numbers of chairs for guests and room to move about. It was the eclectic nature of the backdrop and surrounds that drew Kirsty and Jason to hold their wedding ceremony here. Every chair was different, and the surrounding merchandise was as random as any antique furniture store, but it suited very well!

Kirsty did a lot of work herself leading up to the day, hand making a delightful bouquet and lapel pins out of scavenged knick-knaks, and sourced some delightful hollowed out ring ‘books’ that held their rings in a lovely unique way. They had close friends be wedding singers and copnduct readings which made for a wonderful friendly atmosphere.

After the family photos and the mandatory ‘breakfast club’ recreation photos in amongst the indoor plants and eclectic garden art, we head over to a new location in the nearby heritage listed Gamble Cottage to use the delightful small garden there for photos. As the day was fairly overcast we were very lucky to see a little bit of sun poking out through the clouds while we were there which made for wonderful ‘fairytale’ lighting.

Finally, after the glamour photos in Blackwood in the delightful Adelaide Hills, we head down the hill a bit to Eire Cafe which is a small little cafe suitable for smaller congregations just like Kirsty and Jason’s family-oriented reception!

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding – Mai & Kevin

  • Mai & Kevin

    Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding - Mai & Kevin 1

The shade and wonderful backdrop of the tall pine trees at the center of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens were the backdrop to Mai and Kevin’s wedding on a lovely late – April day. I was  sourced by Kevin’s father as Mai and Kevin’s wedding photographer as he enjoyed the wedding photos I put together for Vivian and Rohan back in 2016! It’s always nice to hear that people enjoy my work and want the same for their weddings! 😀

Preparation

I started my short 3 hour coverage with Mai in her hotel room at the Stamford Plaza hotel, which had a magnificent view of the river torrens precinct with Adelaide oval in the background. The preparation was fairly cruisey with Mai and her friends, and mother flitting about getting everything ready. If Mai was feeling any nerves in the morning, she was hiding it well! I also got to practice some of my Japanese also as some of Mai’s friends were Japanese! 😛

Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding Ceremony

Mai and Kevin held their ceremony at the top of the hill with the pine trees the center of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens known as the Araucaria Avenue. It’s a wonderful spot where the sun is able to shine through the backdrop of the trees to create a wonderful golden glow at this time of year.

After the ceremony and family photos we spent a short while walking about the Adelaide Botanic Gardens for some glamour photos, starting from the lake near North Terrace, through to the bamboo forest and finally the lovely trees in Botanic Park. The sun was fading quite quickly at this time of day allowing for some wonderful golden light shining through as a backdrop.

Silvestris of Clarendon Wedding – Natasha & Sean

  • Naomi & Neil

    Mt Lofty House Wedding

    Mt Lofty House Garden

It was a stunning April day for Natasha and Sean’s wedding at the beautiful Silvestris of Clarendon garden! The day was filled with family joy, wonderful weather and even a cake that was flown on from interstate! Natasha and Sean opted to hold their wedding ceremony in the lovely little garden on site, then heading off to the nearby Riverbend reserve for photos before heading back to the Silvestris of Clarendon restaurant for their reception. I was asked to be their wedding photographer for their entire day, and I had a great time! 🙂

Preparation

Sean was being prepared at a house in Morphett Vale, with his groomsmen and  mother watching on. His heritage was on display for all to see with his Celtic cufflinks, and of course the wonderful kilts he and his groomsmen were wearing! It was quite a coincidence that apparently my mother had spent her youth highland dancing with Sean’s mother – which just goes to show how small Adelaide is!

Natasha was being prepared at the couple’s house nearby with her favorite movie of ‘Beauty and Beast’ playing in the background. The entire morning went very smoothly with only a slight delay with the bridal party leaving a little late due to Natasha’s hair taking a little longer than expected, but that’s the bride’s prerogative to be late! 🙂 Somehow they still beat me to Silvestris of Clarendon though, despite me leaving before them..

Silvestris of Clarendon Wedding Ceremony

The gardens of Silvestris of Clarendon were bursting with Autumnal colours which made the already wonderful garden that much more special. The famed dome made for an awesome backdrop to where Natasha and Sean chose to hold their ceremony, and the sun was in a great spot for some amazing lens flare 🙂

Silvestris of Clarendon Wedding Reception

While I had been to Silvestris of Clarendon before to cover a wedding, I had not set foot in the wonderful restaurant that is also on site. It’s a wonderfully modern function room and restaurant with adjacent courtyard suitable for cocktails. The setting was resplendent and the service immaculate. A wonderful place to celebrate a wedding!
