Every now and then, a couple’s story takes me somewhere that feels both familiar and completely new at the same time. Sarah and Major had travelled all the way from Texas, USA, to South Australia for a friend’s wedding, and while here they wanted to capture their own milestone in a setting that felt truly unforgettable. A Pt Willunga beach engagement shoot was the perfect choice. It’s an iconic location, instantly recognisable for its weathered jetty ruins, golden sand, and dramatic cliffs. Although I’ve spent plenty of time with my camera in this part of Adelaide, every shoot takes on a different personality depending on the couple in front of the lens.
The two of them were eager to experience something that felt uniquely Australian. For me, that meant pointing them in the direction of Pt Willunga beach and the nearby Blanche Point cliffs. Both spots bring together the wild, untamed beauty of South Australia’s coastline with an atmosphere that can swing from playful to romantic depending on the light and the tide. For Sarah and Major, it became the perfect stage to showcase their personalities – adventurous, affectionate, and a little cheeky.
Pt Willunga Beach Engagement Shoot
We kicked things off at the Star of Greece carpark, a spot that overlooks the beach and offers one of the best vantage points in the area. The original idea was to stroll down along the sand, making use of the sheer cliffs and ending at the famous jetty ruins. Only, as it happens with the sea, it had other plans. The tide was unusually high, so high that it seemed to almost lick the cliff base, leaving hardly any sand to walk on. What was meant to be a casual beach wander turned into a bit of a challenge.
Adding to the unexpected mix was the algal bloom that had been affecting the coast at the time. With it came a scattering of sea foam and some unfortunate wildlife along the shoreline. It wasn’t the pristine backdrop most couples dream of, but Sarah and Major weren’t fazed. Their positive energy carried us through. Instead of focusing on what couldn’t be done, they leaned into the fun of making the most of what we had. That resilience shone through in the images, giving the photographs a sense of adventure that can’t be staged.

Once we found the sections of beach that were still accessible, Sarah and Major’s personalities came alive. They were quick to splash around, tease one another, and laugh at the quirks of the day. Engagement shoots are at their best when couples forget about the camera and simply enjoy themselves. These two did just that. Exploring the Famous Caves
As keen rock climbers, Sarah and Major weren’t about to shy away from a little challenge. Even with the waves lapping at the base of the cliffs, they were excited to explore the caves carved into the rock face. These caves are part of what makes Pt Willunga beach such a favourite among photographers. They carry echoes of history and mystery, while also offering striking natural framing for portraits.
Watching them climb around with confidence reminded me of why I love photographing couples who embrace adventure. The caves became a canvas where their closeness could shine. After spending time at Pt Willunga beach, we drove a short distance to Blanche Point. Known for its sweeping cliffs and panoramic ocean views, it’s a place that never fails to deliver breathtaking light at sunset. The timing couldn’t have been better. As the sun began to sink, the sky turned golden, then painted itself in soft pinks and fiery oranges. It was the kind of natural spectacle that makes Adelaide’s coast world-famous for photography.
What made it even more special was that the area was deserted. Often, photographers have to share this spot with other couples or groups keen to grab the same view. On this day, it was just us. Sarah and Major embraced the moment fully, leaning into the romance of the scenery. One big request the couple gave me was to take as many photos of their flower girl and page boy as they managed to avoid the camera at their wedding in Italy. Unfortunately the occasion was a bit much for them, but we managed to get a few smiles throughout the day 🙂

The ceremony was short, heartfelt, and completely centred on love. A harpist played gently, filling the Old Ballroom with a melody that instantly made the room feel magical. As Francesca and Gian reaffirmed their vows, guests smiled through misty eyes, and the joy was infectious. Once the final words were spoken, cheers erupted. The newly reaffirmed couple made their way down the aisle and out through the grand front doors, where friends and family lined the steps to create a joyful walkout moment. This staged walkout was one of the highlights—it felt celebratory, natural, and incredibly photogenic.

Following the ceremony, we gathered everyone on the front lawn for a joyful group photo in front of Ayers House. The historic facade made for a stately backdrop, and the laughter and smiles of the guests radiated in the late afternoon light. It was the perfect way to capture the energy of the day before heading off to another favourite Adelaide location.
From there, we ventured to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. In the fading sunlight, the gardens were practically empty, giving us space to create some truly breathtaking images. The golden hour light streamed through the trees, catching Rachel’s veil and illuminating Ivan’s smile as they strolled hand in hand. Sunset in the Botanic Gardens is always a gift, and this day was no exception. The combination of natural beauty and the couple’s connection produced images that felt both romantic and timeless.

Ayers House Wedding Reception
Returning to Ayers House, Rachel and Ivan began their reception with a first dance back in the grandeur of the Old Ballroom. There’s something spectacular about seeing a couple move beneath the sparkling chandelier, surrounded by their loved ones cheering them on. The ballroom’s scale gave the dance an almost cinematic quality, and the photographs captured that magic effortlessly.
Afterward, the celebration shifted to the more intimate Henry’s Table and Bar within the mansion. Guests settled in for heartfelt speeches that ranged from tear-jerking to hilarious, all reflecting the love and warmth felt throughout the day. The setting offered a cosy, inviting space to wrap up an evening filled with joy. As the night came to a close, Rachel and Ivan’s smiles said it all – their Ayers House wedding had been everything they dreamed of and more, and I was honoured to capture every unforgettable moment.

Glamour Photos
Post-ceremony, we didn’t have to venture far to find stunning backdrops. The property’s landscape was a photographer’s dream — endless lawns, tree-lined paths, and that open-sky Northern Territory magic. But the highlight? A full-sized white bouncing castle. Julie had organised it especially for the wedding, and it was one of those wonderfully unexpected additions that make a celebration truly unique. We had so much fun incorporating it into portraits, and it added a playful energy that perfectly matched the couple’s personalities.
We strolled down the long driveway, stopping at a rather unusual photo spot — a towering ant nest. It’s not every day you see one of these at a wedding, and it was a quirky, very Territorian touch to their gallery. As the day began to mellow, the light turned golden, casting that perfect end-of-day glow. Just as the sun dipped beyond the horizon, we wrapped up, ready for the evening’s festivities.

Weddell Wedding Reception
The reception setup was nothing short of spectacular. The helicopter hangar had been transformed into a party haven, with vibrant lighting, pumping music, and a dance floor that was impossible to ignore. Guests were already laughing and mingling when I arrived, and the energy was infectious. A variety of games kept everyone entertained, but the standout had to be the one where guests competed to hammer a nail into a log. It was chaotic, loud, and hilarious — exactly the kind of lighthearted fun that gets everyone involved.
Once the formalities wrapped up, the dance floor came alive. Between the smoke machines and the massive light rig, it felt like photographing a live concert. Julie and Rafael were right in the thick of it, surrounded by friends and family letting loose. The music didn’t just fill the space — it vibrated through the floor, the kind of bass you can feel in your chest.

As a Darwin wedding photographer, being part of Julie and Rafael’s celebration was an absolute privilege. A crisp winter breeze, golden light filtering through bare branches, and a castle-like venue tucked into the Adelaide Hills—it all came together for Grace and Tyler’s unforgettable Manor Basket Range wedding. Preparation
Tyler and his groomsmen set the tone early in the day with chilled-out vibes and a soundtrack of easy-going banter. They were tucked away in one of the lower suites of The Manor, where the sandstone walls kept things cosy and calm. And then there was their adorable little pup – who diddnt seem to like me much – trotting from room to room like he was checking the place was ready for the big event.
Now let’s talk about those luscious locks. Tyler’s hair had a whole moment of its own. The way it caught the light pouring in from the window… iconic. Honestly, every time he turned his head, it shimmered like a Pantene commercial. He might have been there to get married, but his hair was absolutely guest-starring. With cufflinks clicked into place and his suit sitting just right, the whole vibe was elegant-meets-effortless.

Upstairs in the bridal enclave, Grace was surrounded by all the warm fuzzies of pre-ceremony excitement. This veil wasn’t just a bridal accessory—it was a moment. Floor-sweeping, light-catching, and practically begging to be in every photo. And with Grace’s natural glow and megawatt smile, the entire look came together with effortless elegance. A quiet moment with her mum while getting into her dress gave us one of the most touching snapshots of the day, followed by a beautiful first look with her dad. Their emotional exchange had everyone misty-eyed, even before we’d made it to the ceremony.

The Manor Basket Range Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony was held in the open-air courtyard, witht eh small chapel as the backdrop – one of my favourite spots at The Manor Basket Range. With ivy-draped walls, towering trees in the background, and guests seated beneath the crisp winter sky, it felt intimate and grand all at once. Grace and Tyler took turns walking down the aisle, creating this beautiful rhythm of anticipation and excitement. No one could wipe the smiles off their faces—including me behind the lens.
The ceremony balanced heart and humour perfectly. Tyler and Grace shared some light-hearted banter, and then followed it up with vows that tugged hard at the heartstrings.
A standout moment? Their request for a behind-the-first-kiss shot. We paused the ceremony right before the smooch so I could duck behind them and snap a photo with all their guests smiling (or crying!) in the background. It was such a sweet, inclusive touch that gave their ceremony something a little extra special. The petal toss during their walk back up the aisle added the final flourish.

With the ceremony wrapped, we stepped straight into the soft afternoon glow—photographer heaven. A Manor Basket Range wedding offers so many gorgeous backdrops, from fairytale staircases to dreamy forest corners. Grace and Tyler didn’t have a full bridal party, so it meant we had more time to wander the grounds together, making the most of every nook.
One of the absolute highlights? A cheeky photoshoot with a giant cutout of their dog “chasing” them around the castle. Yes, it was hilarious. Yes, it worked perfectly. There’s something so refreshing about couples who bring in personal touches like that—it turns formal portraits into something joyfully unique. As the sun dipped behind the hills, guests moved into the reception hall for a cosy evening filled with laughter, stories, and a whole lot of dancing. The stone walls and chandeliers gave everything a romantic glow, and the long tables were dressed to perfection. I had my photobooth set up and ready to go—and let me tell you, it was an absolute hit. Feather boas, silly hats, giant glasses—you name it, someone wore it.

Later in the evening, we headed outside for a sparkling send-off.
