St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding – Sash & Dan

Sash and Dan’s St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding was the last wedding of 2022 for me, and what a wedding it was too! taking place in one of the more beautiful Cathedrals the city of churches has to offer the weatehr was wonderful and the people involved even more so!

Preparation

Sash and Dan had organised their wedding very well, choosing accomodation nearby their reception venue of Ayers House so that they have a short walk back to their hotel after their big day – it also meant that we were able to set up their photobooth before heading for their preparation photos quite easily! It was also good as we had quite a bit of video gear to cart around too, and being in the city it can be tricky – but not at Sash and Dan’s wedding!

The rooms in the Crown Plaza are lined by beautiful floor to ceiling windows lined with white skim curtains which makes for a nice backdrop to preparation wedding photos, along with letting in plenty of natural light.

We started by heading up to Dan’s room, only to find that his groomsmen werent coming until a bit later, so we head over to Sash’s room where she was finishing up her makeup.

The whole morning was laid back and fun to be a part of!

St Francis Xaviers Cathedral Wedding Ceremony

The St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, just off of Victoria square is a very impressive building both inside and out with a beautifully gothic aesthetic which sets for an impressive backdrop for a wedding.

One thing that really ‘wowed’ me was the entrance of Sash in the huge double doors at the head of the Cathedral following the procession of her bridal aprty and family members. The doors flew open to reveal her stunning visage which was certainly enough to make Dan shed a tear or two!

Sash and Dan’s St Francis Xaviers Cathedral wedding was a traditional catholic affair with heartfelt vows and family members joining in as sponsors throughout for various reasons such as the laying of a veil over their heads and a wedding lasso rosary.

Something a bit different at Sash and Dan’s wedding was that during the ceremony we had group photos at the altar of the Cathedral, which allowed me to do some fun stuff with a very long pole acting like a drone throughout the Cathedral – its a rather rare thing to be able to do!

Glamour Photos

The original plan was to take some glamour photos around Victoria Square so we could have the Cathedral in the backdrop of the photos – however their ceremony took a little longer than expected, and we spent a bit of time having a group photo in front of the Cathedral.

We spent a little time inside the Cathedral itself using the wonderful architecture, and also recreating their first kiss as their original kiss was unfortunately behind their two chairs they sat in during their ceremony.

Sash then retired to her room at their hotel, but not before shooting a bit in front of some rustic walls in a nearby allyway. This allowed me to get a start on their same day edit video, which they specially requested to be played during their reception. Putting these together can be a bit stressful, but are always very rewarding considering the glowing feedback you get from guests throughout the night!

Once Sasha and Dan made it to Ayer’s House we used the gardens and historic scenes around the manor for a few shots before entering their reception.

2022 SA ABIA Awards results

It’s that time of year again, all the wedding industry awards are being held, and the ABIA awards are the one I put most stock in. The 2022 SA ABIA Awards saw SvenStudios once again rise to the top of the best wedding suppliers available in South Australia in all that we offer – Wedding Photography, Videography and Photobooth Hire. But the competition in this great state of ours is always super tight, which means we still have not achieved a winning gold star, despite getting close once again!

I managed to come away with a runner-up star with my photobooth hire service, while being a finalist in the wedding photographer and Videographer categories.

The way the ABIA Wedding Awards work is unique in that the awards are soley decided on the reviews recieved from previous wedding couples who have reviewd your services. Each couple give a score out of 100 in varying fields and it culminates into your final score.

In order to qualify as a finalist in the yearly awards, a wedding supplier must earn an overall score of over 95%, so just managing to be a finalist means that your couples have been absolutely estatic with your work – it merely comes down to some scores in the 99, and 98 range that decides the winner in each category.

It’s actually a little frustrating recieving an overall score of 98.69% for wedding photography, and 98.73% for wedding videography and still not winning the gold star in the 2022 SA ABIA Awards! But it just goes to show the amount of fantastic suppliers and competition out there in South Australia, and these scores mean that all my couples in the last year that voted are very pleased with my work! Which is the greatest award really.

Thankyou to all those who took the time to fill out the review form after every wedding – it’s the best thing in the world to hear such positive feedback from my couples and it keeps me going!

Particulary over the last few months where I’ve lost all my social media accounts due to identity theft and Facebook being Facebook. If you diddn’t know about that please do refollow me on my new social accounts! Means a lot!

Relive your wedding day, your way with Wedding re-LIVE

I’m sure you’ve all heard stories of bridal couples who have had some small hiccup, or story from their big day in which they wish they could do something differently. Well, that need not be you for your own wedding!

The product development team at Svenstudios have been hard at work building upon our already impressive array of technologies developed in order to better enjoy the memories from your big day. From the developers of Instant wedding photography, robotic wedding ceremonies, a fan favourite odorgraphy and many more – comes ‘Wedding re-LIVE’.

Wedding re-LIVE

With the incredible Wedding re-LIVE service exclusively from SvenStudios, you are able to utilise the very latest in virtual reality and deep fake technologies to not only relive your wedding day – but actually interact with what happens on your day as if it were a computer game.

Using a Virtual Reality headset you basically take control of your own self as recorded on your wedding day, and walk around your wedding venue as if you were a marionette puppeteer. In this way you’re able to talk to your guests – visit areas you never did, or perhaps watch uncle Jim drunkenly meander out the gate as you had heard it was hilarious from your geusts but you missed it as you were busy with your first dance!

How does it work?

Before your day, I will dillegently scan your wedding venue using the latest in 360 degree cameras and mapping hardware in order to produce an intricately detailed 3D map of the entire space. This involves running about with a camera on a pole. The more I scan, the father you can walk around in virtual reality with your self as your ‘game’ character!

I then import all the data I created into the Unreal Engine – which is software that underpins many modern games to a degree that reality and gaming becomes blurred due to the realistic textures I captured while scanning your venue.

Unreal Ed
Unreal Ed

Finally all I need is to have you, as the bride and/or groom wear a discreet 360 camera on a pole that sticks out of your back, all day. You wont even know it’s there! This camera records your movements, speech patterns and personality in such a way that SvenStudios can now use that data to program how your guests interact with your virtual avatar when using the Wedding re-LIVE service!

The result being a completely immersive, and highly customiseable way to relive your day, in the way you want!

Perhaps you said something stupid to the wait staff? We’ve all been there – Enjoy your meal sir! “YOU TOO!” – god what an idiot! Relive your wedding with Wedding re-LIVE and that sort of thing won’t happen again!

Bride and groom through the pine trees

This service of course extends on the already ground breaking 360 degree filming of your wedding ceremony that we offer for free with any wedding we cover as either your wedding photograoher or videographer and we feel as though this is the next logical step in better recording your wedding day and your memories in the most realistic way possible.

Be sure to get in contact to have us utilise this pioneering new service at your own wedding day. You certainly will not regret it – just as long as you don’t look at the date and are willing to have a bit of a laugh at your own expense!

A Complete Guide to Hiring a Wedding Videographer

Some people say that if a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million. Wedding videography has allowed today’s brides and grooms to relive all the smiles and tears that happened on their special day.

In the age of social media, wedding videography has become a priority as it helps to retain the memory of the wedding celebration, and it can be shared with as many people as possible. But not in the way it once was! Back in the day, wedding videography would produce quite a boring video of everything that happened – today’s couples are looking for something a little more entertaining.

If you are close to tying the knot, here are some things you need to know about hiring a wedding videographer.

A Complete Guide to Hiring a Wedding Videographer

Your wedding is fast approaching, and you can’t wait to meet the person who will immortalise this special day. However, you may not know where to begin.

  • Ask Your Friends and Colleagues

Your married friends are your best resource when it comes to finding a professional wedding videographer. They have been through this process, so you get a bit of assurance that they had a good experience with whoever they will refer to you.

Aside from your friends, your work colleagues might also help you. failing all of this, be sure to browse reputable review sites such as that available at ABIA or Google reviews.

  • Go Beyond “Near Me” Options

It is ideal to employ local florists and caterers for your wedding, for practicality’s sake. When it comes to your wedding videographer, though, don’t be limited by geography and don’t be afraid to employ someone from another city or state. Videographers can easily carry their equipment on a plane or in a car and may even jump at the opportunity. My own personal favourite experience was covering a wedding in Santorini, Greece!

Every filmmaker has different travel policies and fees, but if you discover someone you admire who isn’t from your region, you should still reach out to them and talk about your options.

  • Look for Options Online

The internet is where most couples find their wedding videographers. A quick search on Google or social media will show you many options. The best thing about searching for a videographer online is that their portfolios are often readily available, and you can immediately reach out to them. Send them an email or call the phone number on their website, and you can easily set an appointment with them to discuss the details of your wedding.

  • Ask Your Wedding Venue

The wedding business is a tight-knit network of industry experts. As a result, coordinators for your wedding venue will probably have a preferred videographer with whom they exclusively collaborate. Depending on the package, some venues may have in-house videographers who may work at a reduced fee.

They’re a great option to start your search, especially if you’re looking for a very specific service like wedding videography but don’t feel as though you have to use who they recommend, when hiring a wedding videographer it really depends on who you like, rather than anyone else’s opinion!

Top Things to Consider When Hiring a Wedding Videographer

There are seemingly endless wedding videography options to be found online or through personal or industry recommendations. Just a quick scroll on social media will present you with hundreds of possible videographers. Because of so many choices, it can be a bit overwhelming to pick the best one.

To help you break it down, here are a few key things that you have to consider when looking for the perfect videographer.

  • Price

It’s no surprise that weddings can be expensive. People spend thousands of dollars for this one-day event. Because of this, the price of a videographer’s services should be considered. However, since your wedding video will live on forever, when hiring a wedding videographer try not to settle for the cheapest option. Go for someone whose pricing justifiably reflects the quality of their work and their experience.

  • Style

Wedding videography entails telling a love story, and every videographer has a different way of executing it. To see if your option’s style fits your preference, you can watch some of their previous works online. While viewing them, ask yourself if that is how you would like your wedding day to be remembered. Can you imagine yourself in that frame? At that moment? Did their work have an emotional connection with you? Did you like how they highlighted the main features of the event? Through these questions and more, you can decide which videographer will deliver a great product!

  • Personality

This is one of the most important things to consider when choosing a videographer, but some people take it for granted. The level of trust you and your partner have with your videographer will determine the quality of your film.

For one, not everyone is comfortable being in front of the camera. But if your videographer is someone you are comfortable with, they can easily make the experience fun and not awkward at all. Also, your wedding videographer will be around all day, maybe even for several days. So make sure that you get along, someone who can keep up with all your family and friends’ celebratory mood throughout the event.

  • Equipment

Of course, the quality of the final video(s) depends on the skill of your videographer, but it will also be significantly affected by the cameras and other equipment your videographers will use.

When hiring a wedding videographer, you can ask them what type of video camera they prefer. If you are familiar with video equipment, this information might be helpful. However, it’s probably unnecessary since it will all boil down to the videographer’s style and skills. You can also ask how many cameras they use since this can affect the pricing and how thoroughly your event will be captured.

Remember, once the wedding celebration is over, the wedding flowers will begin to wither, the decorations will get taken down, and your wedding guests will consume the food you have served. However, the only ones you can keep forever are the memories that your wedding photographs and videos captured on your behalf.

This is why wedding videography is essential. It will live on for years and constantly remind you of that one special day in your life. Because of this, do not rush when choosing a wedding videographer. You do not have to settle for the cheapest, nearest, or most convenient option.

The best way to find a reliable videographer who works in the style you want is to ask around and do your research. It will take a lot of work, but you will realise that all the effort is worth it when you look back on your wedding video years from now!

5 Essential Things to Check when you hire a Wedding Videographer

One of the most meaningful events in a person’s life is their wedding day, and it’s important to document all the best and most touching moments properly. Everyone wants to have the best wedding photographer they can for their big day, but wedding videography sometimes gets left by the wayside.

Wedding videos are a great way to immortalise the event, from preparations to the reception. Everything is captured, so when the couple looks back on their special day, they can still recall how happy they were and how much fun their guests had. Wedding videography does this in a way that photos simply cannot do. Both are important in that they capture the same things, but in different ways

Wedding videos are a great way to preserve memories, so it is crucial to find the best wedding videographers who can do a great job recording and preparing your wedding film. However, choosing one is not that easy. You cannot just pick the first company you find on Google and assign them this critical task. The best event videographer is skilled and creative enough to craft the best wedding video for your special day.

5 Essential Things to Check Before you hire a Wedding Videographer

Choosing a great videographer can get tricky, so here are the things you should look for to find the best one for your big day:

  1. The Videographer’s Portfolio

Your videographer is another of your wedding vendors, so you should spend some time looking at their samples and package options. You probably skimmed through pages of magazines and brochures to find the best wedding dress, the most fitting flowers, the most attractive wedding cakes, and the ideal wedding place, after all. You should also be this thorough when looking for a wedding videographer—and you can do that by looking at their portfolio.

A good videographer will present you with their portfolio to show off their skills and past work. If they don’t, you can ask for it so that you will have a reference. You should carefully analyse the videographer’s capabilities through their portfolio and also make sure their style suits your own personal sense of aesthetic.

If they manage to amaze you with their previous projects, you can be reassured that they can give you the same quality of work during your wedding day. Remember to always look through a videographer’s portfolio before you put them on your shortlist.

  1. The Videographer’s Experience

While beginner videographers can also possess excellent skills, you should opt for someone with more experience if you want guaranteed results.

Experienced videographers have been at hundreds of weddings in the past and know whats going to happen and when, so you can trust them to do a great job on your special day.

Videographers with experience have more knowledge on what they should do during the ceremony itself and how to be in the right place at the right time to capture special moments. You will not need to tell them what shots to take at which angles and what they should focus on.

Also, experienced videographers know how to blend in easily and communicate clearly to get the best out of every subject. With an experienced videographer, you can rest easy knowing they will do great at recording one of the best moments of your life.

Be sure to check out reviews from previous couples to get a better idea on how they act on a wedding day and what others have thought of their work!

  1. The Videographer’s Creativity

There are thousands of wedding videos out there. You can settle for making yours similar to any other wedding video, but if you want something exceptional, be sure to take note of your potential videographer’s creativity.

A wedding video, just like any aspect of a wedding, should reflect the couple’s personality. A creative videographer will bring that out—your personalities, your love story, what makes you both happy, and your love for each other.

When you hire a wedding videographer you should pick a videographer that has excellent attention to detail, angles, timing, and editing. This way, you know that they will produce a great wedding video that does not only consist of the typical shots and clips.

A creative videographer will take your interests into account and make sure that it is seen in the colour grading, the music, and even the transition between the clips. You must get a videographer who can make a one of a kind wedding video instead of just putting together a generic, boring, bland set of clips.

  1. The Videographer’s Communication Skills

Communication is crucial because you do not want additional stress on your wedding day. You need someone that can easily understand and grasp the tasks at hand without requiring much of your guidance.

Any miscommunication can disturb the wedding day, so make sure to get a videographer with the best communication skills from the beginning. To gauge that, observe if they can easily coordinate the details, requests, and instructions you gave.

Moreover, a good communicator will always give you project updates. They should tell you about what they will do for you during preparation, the day itself, and after the event. Doing so helps ensure the excellent quality of your videos and achieve all your wedding video wishes. Also, pick a videographer that values time—you do not want to be stressed about a videographer arriving late to your shoots or even the wedding itself!

  1. The Videographer’s Packages and Rates

Wedding videography packages can be pricey. After all, you are paying for the videographer’s unique skills and expensive equipment.

So, make sure that you find a videographer that offers extensive packages for a reasonable price. Ask about their inclusions like highlight reels, extended films, same-day edit videos, and more. They might also use drones and even underwater equipment. Inquire about their rates as well, whether it is an hourly, daily, or per-project rate.

Finally, you must find the best and extensive wedding videography package for your special day that suits your needs. Not only will you get quality videos during the wedding, but you get what you pay for. You will not have to worry about low-quality wedding videos when you know you have hired someone skilled that offers a package with many inclusions.

It is also vital that you do not lowball prices with them. Remember that you are paying for their skills, time, and equipment. If you do not want to pay according to their rate, find someone that offers a lesser price or do the work yourself.

Your wedding day truly is one of the most memorable days in your life. It’s a once in a lifetime event that you will always want to look back on and remember heartwarming moments. So, make sure that you get a photo and video team that can deliver on what you envision—the perfect wedding videos to commemorate your perfect day.

hopefully this simple little list of things to check when you hire a wedding videographer helps a bit!
