3 Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing Your Wedding Photographer

Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing Your Wedding Photographer

With your big day’s date set, your bridesmaids and groomsmen chosen, venue picked out, and invitations sent, much anticipation will come in the days leading up to your wedding.

As something that you’ve probably dreamt of ever since you were young, tying the knot with the love of your life is undoubtedly an unforgettable experience that should be done right.

Now that you’ve got almost all your arrangements in order and some deposits made, you may still looking for a professional wedding photographer.

Why it matters to choose wisely and what mistakes to avoid

Among all the different parts of your wedding ceremony that need to be sorted out, the wedding photographer you hire is especially important because they’re responsible for capturing the memories you’ll want to look back on in the years to come.

From the time before you walk down to the aisle to the first dance you have as a married couple, a photographer will be there to capture everything they need, and they’ll do it well.

Unfortunately, many couples end up overlooking this important detail and end up choosing poorly, only to find out that the photos they recieved didn’t quite capture the magic of the event.

3 Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing Your Wedding Photographer

Thankfully, making sure that your wedding coverage is in the right hands doesn’t have to entail going on some adventure or spending more than half of your wedding budget on a “pro-rated” shutterbug. In this article, we will share with you three mistakes to avoid when choosing your wedding photographer:

  1. Going for the cheapest photographer

Look, I dont like to say it, because it really doesnt hold true 100% of the time, but when it comes to your wedding photography: ‘you get what you pay for’. Going cheap, or asking uncle Bill with his fancy camera to take your photos may seem like a good way to save a few thousand dollars, but you’re more than likely going to regret it after.

Seeing that a wedding is a special event that you’ll never have again in your lifetime, it should make sense that going for a cheaper option is a tragedy waiting to happen. There are stories like this almost monthly on those horrible shows like Today Tonight. It happens, and dont think it wont happen to you.

That said though, you can do your own personal vetting, and you may find some very talented individual on the cheap as they might be startingout or something. I wouldnt risk it though.

During your search, it’s important to note that you should invest a bit more money into a team that has many good reviews, positive testimonials, and engaging shots. Try not to book a photographer without having looked through an entire album of a completed wedding they have done previously.

  1. Not having a meeting before the wedding itself.

Any professional photographer knows the importance of setting up a meeting with a couple before their big day because it gives a chance to iron out any requests and considerations. As a photographer, it also allows me to guage the kind of personality of the couple and work with that in order to produce images that perfectly reflect that couple’s day.

Overlooking the need for a meeting is a mistake to avoid when choosing your wedding photographer because you’ll go into your wedding day without any coordination or proper expectation of how your shots are going to look like.

By meeting up with your chosen wedding photographer, you’ll be able to make sure that you’re both on the same page in terms of style to ensure that they’re getting the shots you’ve always wanted! You can also browse previous weddings the photographer has shot and possibly samples of albums.

  1. Not checking out reviews

An easy mistake to avoid when choosing your wedding photographer is going for the very first option they see without first considering reviews. The beauty of the internet is that you’re able to gain access to many review sources of any wedding vendor written by previous bridal couples. Be sure they are from a reputable source though as some review sites can be exploited with fake reviews.

ABIA is one such review site with a good reputation as they thoroughly vette each review they recieve.

Thanks to the Internet, you can find out everything that you need to know about a particular professional, how they work, and what experience you should expect with them. With a quick search on the web, you can learn more about the past experiences and reviews that previous clients and couples have had with a particular professional and work up from there.

Typical Wedding Themes

Your wedding is the most memorable day of your love story and there’s a way for you to make it even more unforgettable—by selecting a charming theme.

You should know that choosing a theme for your wedding day is not as straightforward as it seems. First, you need to find one that reflects both yours and your partner’s personalities. Aside from that, you must find one that suits your chosen venue and the time of the year you are holding the wedding.

Long story short—it’s going to be quite challenging!

Nevertheless, if you’re stuck in this stage of your wedding preparations, we’re here to help you out! Below you will find five of the many typical wedding themes you may want to explore, and perhaps improve apon that would better uniquely suit your own wedding!

5 Typical Wedding Themes

  1. Romantic

This is perhaps the most commonly used theme in ceremonies. This does not mean that going with this motif will make your big day any less special!

With this concept, your venue will be decorated with flowers in pastel colours. Usually, there will also be lighting fixtures hanging overhead that give off a soft glow to set the atmosphere. To top it off, the whole place is filled with candles emitting low light—just the right amount to create the perfect mood for romance!

  1. Alternative

If the first motif doesn’t appeal to you and your partner, taking the unconventional route with an alternative wedding is worth exploring.

Weddings with this concept feature moody colours and distinctive decorations. They allow you to get creative with the scene you want to achieve and the elements you want to include. The best part is that it can let you show your family and friends how cool you are as a couple!

  1. Bohemian

Boho style has been the talk of the town recently, thanks to its natural fabrics, retro patterns, warm shades and statement accessories. If you’re an avid fan of this style, you’ll never go wrong with a bohemian wedding.

In this theme, you’ll enjoy a distinct soft and romantic feel that is heavily inspired by the beautiful outdoors. It’s a great way to make your big day look like it came straight from a mythical woodland book!

  1. Vintage

If you and your partner are a big fan of all things retro, a vintage wedding is definitely worth looking into.

In this concept, your venue will be furnished with antique decorations here and there. Your wedding entourage will be dressed in classic vintage attire, and you get to wear your favourite period wedding dress or suit as well. The best part? You may even hire a vintage car for your transportation or your wedding photoshoot!

  1. Classic

This is your best bet if you want to keep things formal and traditional for your special day. A classic wedding features grand floral arrangements in your venue and even a small orchestra playing classical music.

On top of that, your guests will be dressed formally, too—ladies will be wearing evening dresses, while the men will be wearing ties. Ultimately, there will be posh seating and complete table settings.

These are just five of the many typical wedding themes you can consider for your big day. I hope that our list gave you some inspiration as to what feel and atmosphere you want to achieve for your wedding. As you decide, it helps to remember that there are no hard rules as to what theme you can use. As long as you come up with your own dream wedding theme, you’ll surely make the ceremony a truly memorable one!

Planning your wedding? 3 Photography Mistakes to Avoid

June 4, 2021/in Interesting, ideas, Wedding

Photography Mistakes to Avoid while planning your wedding

Your wedding will be one of the biggest events that you will plan in your lifetime – unless of yourse you’re a professional event manager. Since it holds an emotional bearing to you and your partner, you’ll need to ensure that there will be little to no complications during the event.

Hiring a studio to handle your wedding photography is an excellent way to have professionals do their part in lessening your stress during your wedding day. However, you may end up cooking a recipe for disaster if you don’t know how to handle your wedding photographers properly.

Wedding photography can be a major investment for your special occasion. Unlike your venue reservation or catering services, you won’t have a sneak peek of what you’ll be getting on the day itself other than what is on display in your photographer’s galleries. This is why you should invest in a photography service that has an impressive, and consistant portfolio.

However, looks can be deceiving, even for photography services. This is why you need to be vigilant when choosing the right team for you and your partner’s milestone. After all, your wedding photos will be the only thing you have from your big day once it’s all done!

3 Photography Mistakes to Avoid

If you want to avoid any mishaps during your special day, avoid these three wedding photography mistakes:

  1. Not meeting with your photographer beforehand

When hiring a wedding photographer, it’s necessary to have an initial meeting to discuss the flow and logistics of the event. Besides dealing with the business aspect, getting to know your photographer will give you an opportunity to collaborate on the potential product of their service. Having these initial meet-ups will be a great way to make you feel comfortable during the actual wedding day that everything’s going according to plan.

  1. Booking wedding services at the last minute

Part of the reason why you should book a photography service in advance is to avoid any miscommunication between parties. It’s typical for any rushed event to blame different vendors for responsibilities and tasks. The more unknowns there are in your event, the more likely you’ll experience sudden and unexpected problems.

If you don’t want any infighting between you, your photographers and your in-laws, it’s best to involve all the involved parties to clear up any confusion. Keep everyone’s contact numbers on hand so that your best man or maid of honour can coordinate with the different teams while you’re enjoying your special day.

You may also fall in love with a certain photographer’s style, only to find out they are not available for your date! I know personally I get booked out at least a year in advance, so it’s best to select your wedding photgorapher as soon as possible!

  1. Micromanaging your photography team

The reason why you’re hiring professional photographers is that you’re trusting their judgment during the event. Typically, you should provide a photo timeline of the highlights you want your photographers to capture, from particular happenings to important people. This will help your photographers find the best places to take these specific shots. However, you shouldn’t do their work for them during the day itself.

Like any creative output, it’s better to tell them all your requirements beforehand so that they can work with their own flow. Don’t make any urgent demands, especially if it’s out of their way to do so. The key to having a successful turnout of photos is to respect their professionalism and industry experience when collaborating with them.

Plenty of these photography mistakes to avoid are easily avoidable if you hire the right photography team to do the job. This is why couples need to be particular about finding a capable photographer that can provide promising results. Remember to do your research on your prospects and ask for recommendations from friends and family and read reviews to ensure that you’re dealing with skilled and reliable ones. Doing so will give you the peace of mind that you’re working with experts you can trust.

Finding a reliable team of photographers for your wedding day is one of the most important jobs you need to accomplish. At SvenStudios, we ensure that we can capture the memories that you’ll treasure forever. If you’re looking for wedding photographers, contact us today!

Planning a Wedding – What Your Photographer Needs to Know

Planning a Perfect Wedding – What Your Photographer Needs to Know

A wedding is an important event in a couple’s life. It is a day where a couple publicly shares their vows and enters into the lifelong contract of marriage. Moreover, it is a day wherein they proclaim their never-ending love and appreciation for each other.

Since a wedding is one of the beautiful moments in a couple’s life, it must be cherished and documented properly. To make sure that you capture every important moment on your special day, talk to your photographer beforehand to set your big day up for success!

While it is best to let your photographer have artistic licence over what they are doing, as you chose them for a reason – it can’t hurt to communicate to them the images and setup you envisioned so that they will come in prepared to deliver you the best photos of one of the most important days of your life.

Your photographer may have other ideas to better capture the moment, so it’s best to set a meeting with them to iron out the details. In this way, there is a clear goal for both of you! Photographers hate it when they don’t meet the expectations of their clients, so it’s best to set all the goals before the day of the wedding and figure out what your photographer needs to know.

What Your Photographer Needs to Know

Since there are a lot of things to communicate to your wedding photographer, it can get a bit overwhelming; in fact, you may even miss out on some of the most crucial details! That’s why we created this list of a couple of important things you need to talk about to ensure the success of the shots.

  • Give them a list of names of family and friends

One of the parts during a wedding ceremony is when you need to take family photos. It can be difficult to manage, especially when there are a lot of people whom you don’t know just milling around aimlessly! Beyond that, a lot of guests often want to enjoy the cocktail hours, so you need to be as quick as possible to ensure that it goes according to plan.

Having a list will keep this part as smooth and efficient as possible. It will be easier on your part to just call the names instead of asking around who they are! To streamline this effort, help your photographer by writing it like this: bride’s parents with bride and groom, groom’s parents with bride and groom, etc. Don’t just list individual names.

Your photographer does not know who anyone in your group photos are, or how they relate to one another, it’s the one period of the day where they completely rely on your direction in order to produce what you expect, so I cannot understate the importance of this!

  • Give them a schedule of your wedding day

Having a copy of the timeline helps photographers keep track of the event as well. In this way, you both are on the same page on your wedding day and what your photographer needs to know! They will know what to expect and when to expect it—allowing them as much leeway to prepare for their shots as possible.

However, you both must understand that weddings don’t often go as planned! They usually run so late that some of the parts must be rushed. There are even times where 10 minutes were allotted to taking bridal photos; however, it ended up as 30 minutes because of all the retakes and requests! If you don’t give enough time or adjustment, you and your photographer may be stressed out due to the lack of time.

Best way to avoid this is talk to an experienced wedding photographer and glean some insight from their experience form the hundreds of weddings they had covered beforehand.

  • Give them a list of important shots you want

You can always give your photographers a list of important shots that you want them to take. May it be the first dance, the cake cutting, or family photo, these need to be addressed to ensure that you get them at the end of the day!

As I mentioned before, giving your photographer complete autonomy with their own artistic eye is the best way to let them create the best photographs for you – however photographers are not mind readers. if you have a certain set of shots you expect from your final set of images, make sure you communicate this with your photographer!

A professional wedding photographer can capture the beautiful and important moments in your wedding. But, to ensure that both of your goals are met, you need to communicate to them what you expect during the wedding! May the list above give you a basic understanding of what your photographer needs to know to help ease the process along.

Making It Magical – 10 Tips to Get Good Wedding Photos

Tips to Get Good Wedding Photos

In a person’s lifetime, there are special days that are noteworthy. Among these special days is the wedding day, memorable not only for the couple but their loved ones. It’s a union of two people in love with each other, a lifelong commitment that entails laughter, joy, sickness, challenges—for better or worse.

Since it’s an extraordinary day, it’s essential to have the day captured through the best possible photos. These photos will let the couple reminisce about their special day in all the years to come. For this reason, it’s essential that you prepare well.

10 Tips to Get Good Wedding Photos

What exactly should be done to get good wedding photos, however? Read on below.

#1: Hire a Professional

Of course, this is the first obvious step. If you don’t get a professional photographer, chances are you wont get good wedding photos! It’s best to scout for multiple talented photographers, and you can judge the quality of their work with their portfolio. Keep doing this until you narrow down your choices before finally choosing a photographer for your special day.

It’s also best that you meet them first before choosing them for your day. For them, it’s pretty much a job interview, and they would be bringing samples of their work to convince you that they’re the right person for the job.

#2: Check Their Packages

If your photographer is a professional wedding photographer with a good portfolio, they may offer packages for clients. A wedding photography package usually includes how many hours that’s included for your day, as well as any physical products such as albums or prints. Aside from that, it can also cover your photographer’s additional fees, such as any travel expenses or any special expenses they may have to do something unique.

You can also check the number of staff that will be involved in the event. If you’re getting a large studio, you can have more than one photographer. One will be taking photos of the newlyweds, and another will be taking photos of the guests, and so on. This is very handy if you want multiple aspects of your special day shot in photos.

#3: Sign a Contract

If you want everything to go smoothly as planned, contract signing must be done. This way, everything will be done by the book, also serving as your ultimate form of security should someone try to go out of bounds that may violate the contract.

Signing a contract also allows you to have legal recourse in case something happens on the day such as the photographer not showing up, or some other disaster.

#4: Practice Your Poses

As a photographer, I hate posing people it always feels forced and unnnatural which is obvious in the final photos I take. So when I say ‘practice your poses’ in order to get good wedding photos, what I’m actually saying is to treat your photoshoots like a date and do stuff you would usually do on a date. Walking hand to hand around pretty places, whisper sweet nothings into each others ears and simply make each other smile.

There’s nothing worse than turning people into mannequins!

#5: Consider Making a Moodboard

A mood board is a collection of photos that you can use as source material for your projects. Moodboards, despite being a collection of random images, have several things in common. Moodboards can be similar in themes present in the sourced photos or their mere colours. Pinterest is a modern way to put something together in this regard.

Since mood boards are used for projects, a wedding photo shoot is not different. If you have a mood board set for your wedding photoshoot, you can kind of direct the aethetic towards what you’re after a lot better!

Checking back to point one on this list – you’ve probably selected your professional phtographer based on their previous work, so hopefully you like what they have produced in the past in their style. Try not to dictate the style you want them to create, but rather trust in their own artistic style and allow them to produce what you liked in their work in the first place.

#6: Choose Accessible Locations

During your wedding photoshoot, you don’t want to spend a significant amount of time travelling from one location to another. It can be challenging if you and your photographer if you’re spending time you should be shooting simply getting to places. Sometimes to get good wedding photoos you need to spend as much time as possible to get it right and you cant do that in a car.

To prevent this from happening, you will need to be smart when choosing locations for your wedding photoshoot. You can still choose to have your photoshoot at several different areas, but it would be best to be in close proximity to each other. To make things easier, you can always have your photoshoot in one location, and plenty of Adelaide wedding venues certainly allow for this!

#7: Use ‘Toss’ Items

Generally, ‘toss’ items in a wedding are only seen when a flower girl tosses flower petals along the aisle as the bride walks behind her. However, you can also choose to incorporate toss items in your wedding photoshoot.

Toss items add flair to the photos since they can also be viewed as decorations. When thrown in the air, toss items can also result in laughs, which elicits joy.

Other props also help here such as smoke, or water from a hose to mimic rain, even sparklers! They all come together to make some unique shots.

#8: Get Competent Makeup Artists

Looking your best is very important—it’s your wedding photoshoot after all. Since it’s a photoshoot, you must get makeup artists competent enough for you to work with. Like your photographer, they are also most likely to have a portfolio, especially online. Instagram is a common way to select a favourite makeup artist.

You should also not forget about makeup retouching. They can provide you with it, but it will also be good for you to pack backup makeup just in case.

#9: Create a Schedule

Since it’s your wedding photoshoot day, it’s good to have the day planned ahead of time. While there is a chance that it might not be followed, it can give you an idea of your window and how long the time should be spent in an activity during the photo shoot.

#10: Relax and Have Fun during the Shoot

Having an unpleasant mood during the day of the shoot itself can lead to bad photos. In order to get good wedding photos, you should not sweat about the little things, such as a shoot relocation, because of external factors and things you cannot control such as rain.

Your photographer will be the one to keep you on schedule since it’s what you paid them for. It’s essential to get your best looks on your wedding photoshoot day, so keep in mind to have fun!
